Foreword

Running through an endless forest covered in green, Hongjoo leads the way for her people as they didn’t dare to look behind them. Holding onto a hand in hers, running beside her is her younger sister. The wind that follows them grew bigger and faster.

“Hurry! We have to get out of this forest!” Hongjoo inform.

With everyone rushing, dragging one another along, some begin to trip and fall including Hongjoo’s sister.

“Misoo ah”

Hongjoo stops to turn back to her sister and right before her eyes, those who have fallen were suddenly attacked by arrows. People begin to fall to their deaths as Hongjoo is shocked to witness this. She grabs Misoo by the hand, pulling her sister up and they ran again.

That moment, all Hongjoo heard was the screaming of her people’s death and the sound of her heart beating in panic. Soon enough, they made it out into an open field with tall hay as only five of them survived. Hongjoo released Misoo’s hand, cupping her round face into both of her palms, checking to make sure she wasn’t hurt.

"Misoo ah, it's okay now. I will get us out of here. I promise" Hongjoo say, brushing Misoo's hair out of her face and then planting a kiss on her head.

Right then, something jumps out from the hays; tackling down one of the people with them and then another one dragged off. Hongjoo pulls her younger sister close and draws an arrow from her back, her bow in hand, ready to shoot. There was a brief silence that pass them and before Hongjoo can make a shoot, the young boy that was with them gets dragged off in an instant. Hongjoo steps back as Misoo holds her close.

She can hear the young boy's screaming in the hay as movements caught her attention so she released the arrow to then hear a roar. Hongjoo quickly draws another arrow and aims at the incoming wolf who jumps out at her, releasing the arrow that following second as it shoots right into its open mouth. With the wolf lying dead at her feet, she lowers her bow as she takes Misoo's hand and backs slowly with her eyes scanning around.

"Let's go"

They turn around but stopped when they saw someone standing there before them. Hongjoo's eyes are fixed on the person.

"Kayoon"

The woman standing before them had a grin on her face. Her eyes were pretty but behind them were full of sly and cruel intention. Hongjoo shifts her attention away from her when something steps out of the tall hays; its silk like black fur shines as it is approaching Kayoon's side. Completely shocked, she saw that huge jaguar standing beside that evil woman.

"Geum ah?" Hongjoo say its name almost in a soft whisper.

The jaguar snarl as if he was responding to her, causing Kayoon to laugh enjoyably as she saw that hurt look on Hongjoo's face.

"My my, look at you poor child. You literally think it will stay by your side after what it has gone through with you and your family?" Kayoon grins mockingly.

Hongjoo didn't look away from Geum as if she is trying to search for an answer in its golden eyes. Kayoon takes a step toward them and immediately, Hongjoo reacts by aiming an arrow at her.

"What? Are you planning to kill me with that useless arrow of yours?" Kayoon says with sarcasm as she continued to come forward.

"You've killed so many people, Kayoon. What makes you think I won't kill you for that?" Hongjoo say in a bold tone as the image of her mother dying flashed through her mind.

Kayoon just giggles as she stops her track, hiding that devilish smile behind her hand. Her eyes shifts from Hongjoo to Misoo who stood behind her older sister.

"Oh, it's Misoo?"

Hongjoo takes a step to hide her younger sister who tugs tightly onto her piece of clothing.

"Misoo ah, didn't you say that you wanted to be with me? Come. You will be better off with me than your unnie" Kayoon calls her sweetly as she extends her hand out.

Misoo buries her face away and Hongjoo pulls the arrow harder at Kayoon who seems to darken instantly at her action.

"You are not taking her" Hongjoo defends.

Kayoon takes her hand back as she straighten her posture and that devil smile is on her face again.

"Who says I am going to take her?"

That second, Hongjoo witness Geum jumping out from above Kayoon and so she pushes Misoo away while she dove in the opposite direction. She makes a safe land and grabs an arrow from behind her as she is ready to aim but that split moment her bow was completely destroyed in half. That following second, she hears Misoo's screaming and she comes to realize that Geum had slashed her flesh, claws cutting from her left side of the neck and down to her chest as blood spilled from her.

Hongjoo's body falls to the ground and she is unable to move herself. Misoo's screaming continued and Hongjoo can see her younger sister covering her ears as tears rolled down her face. She tries to move her body but it felt heavy and refused her action. Beyond Misoo, Hongjoo sees Geum approaching her in a low posture. Tears begin to fall from her eyes as she tries muttering Misoo's name, but no sound is able to escape from her lips. Standing big behind Misoo, Geum widen its jaw and sharp fangs are revealed. The moment it brings its teeth down at Misoo, Hongjoo screams out her last breath of energy she had which then turn to a cold silence.

Hours had gone by as the sun was beginning to set down. The only thing Hongjoo heard was the soft blowing breeze that pass the field she laid in. Her eyes remain open that entire time, even when she saw Geum biting down Misoo and then dragging her off like a doll. The spot before her was stained with Misoo's blood and that sight made her heart ached.

The whistling breeze continued to come through and soon enough snarling voices of wolves gathered around due to the scent of blood. They surrounded Hongjoo who lies motionless and one of them step forward to sniff her. Right when it was about to take a bite out of her, something big charged from the tall hays and takes the wolf down as whimpers are heard. Hongjoo was able to catch this happening, but her vision was a blur.

The other wolves scurried off, leaving whatever that was there alone with her. Too exhausted to move, she soon saw a figure stepping out of the hay on two legs with hazy blue eyes that look at her. Hongjoo’s sight began to wear out as the beating of her heart started to leave the tiniest breath for her to breathe. However, she was able to mumble a name that made tears racing down her eyes before they closed.

“Geum ah”

Chapter 1: The forward and description of the story made me subscribe to the story but the 1st chapter sort of left me confused. It's like you are trying to force the whole plot of the story into one chapter. Anyway I'll try to read this chapter again. Good luck!!!
