“I think I should meet your family”, I heard. My sandwich falling my lips. 

“What?”         

”I just feel like. We’ve been together for about five months now. And I think we should meet each other’s parents. But mine are in Canada and Korea so we can’t really do that right now. So I thought I should meet yours.” I gulped. 

“Babe. My family is huge”.

”So is mines Joy.”

”No baby. Like. Huge. Like there’s hundreds of us.” 

Wendy huffed and shook her head, lifting up her sandwich. “It’s fine Joy. Forget it.” Ughhh. Why does her stupid. Beautiful face always ruin things for me. 

“I’m sorry baby. I just get nervous. But. Let’s do it. I want you to meet my family.”  As soon as the words left my mouth a flashback of my mom hitting my back with broom hit me. Oh man. We’re not prepared. 

“I have work Monday and Tuesday. But I’m off Wednesday for the holiday. We can do it on Wednesday.” I blinked. That’s my moms hair day. . 

“Um. Wednesday might be tough.”

”What about Saturday?”

. That’s her nail day. “Uh my mom gets her nails done that day. 

“Sunday?”

”Church.”

”You never told me your parents were religious.”

”They’re Pentecostal when they wanna be.” 

“Oh”. 

“Um, Wednesday is fine. I just gotta warn my mom is all.”

I walked through the door, my mom and dad were sitting on the sofa watching the judge. “Caso cerrado!” My mom yelled as I walked in.

”Bendición Mami, papi. Um I just wanted to know if I could bring Wendy over on Wednesday.”

”Ma, did you hear me?”

”Mamita this man cheat on her, and then he get so mad because she crashed his car”. 

“Wepa that’s crazy. But Mami did you hear me? I know it’s your hair day but I want you to meet my girlfriend Wendy”.
