Make It CountPrologue.
I walk slowly past the rooms at the funeral home, head pinned down all the way. It feels heavy for what had happened, even sorrier because I am the person who was saved from the accident yesterday. My knees and arms are still hurting from it but I think my pain is nothing compared to what the uncle’s family members are feeling. Just like any other day, I crossed the road from the school but foolishly that time I didn’t see the white van that was heading towards me.
And only few seconds after that, my whole life – which should have ended – was changed as it took another’s.
My ears caught the sound of the vehicle’s honking, also a few people were shouting including my friends before I was pushed to the roadside and a loud thud followed. Everything happened real fast, my mind went blank all the way, especially when I saw a man who was probably in his late 40s lied down unconscious on the road behind me. The black road was covered by a huge amount of red blood gushing out from him.
The driver stopped right away as he realized he hit someone over, a lot of people surrounded the unconscious man and a few run towards me. Everything was chaotic, I remember hearing people talking to me but not the details. My eyes pinned to the person who saved me as I get up from where I fell, my steps hesitated yet they brought me closer towards the crowd until one voice was heard.
“We lost him,” and so they said.
That sentence has turned my world dark, I felt like a monster who had just killed someone.
