Our Journey : Part II

A Day With Miyawaki Family

--

Months passed without them knowing, and it’s almost time for Eunbi and the kids are back to Japan, to go back home. To their family. Today was also Eunbi’s last two performances before she had a farewell performance and got ready to go home, not before she took a week break because Sakura told her so.

Sakura knew how hard Eunbi worked there based on Yujin’s stories every time they have a video call and thinking that a week break before going to Japan would surely gonna be good for her mood.

“Ding, baby, hurry up! We’re gonna be late!”

Yujin and Wonyoung follow Eunbi everytime to the theater. In between breaks, Eunbi always makes sure to teach them Japanese with subjects that were sent by Sakura. Once they went to Japan, Yujin and Wonyoung started school there so Eunbi and Sakura made sure they understood the language first. It’s not that hard to teach the kids as Sakura always makes sure to teach them Japanese, but it’s also for Eunbi who still had a hard time learning the language.

“Mommy, mommy! Can Wonnie bring this?”

Wonyoung ran to her mom and showed her a doll that was made by Hitomi. It was made for Hitomi’s summer project, but she gave it away to Wonyoung as she knew her sister couldn’t sleep without a doll, and her dolls back at home are quite big. Eunbi took Wonyoung into her arms and kissed her forehead.

“Are you sure? If you lost it, there won’t be another doll here to sleep with you.”

Wonyoung pouted and hugged Eunbi’s neck instead. Eunbi enjoyed cuddles with her kids, and she surely missed cuddling with her older kids, especially her big baby. She just can’t wait to go home.

“I want a hug too!!”

Eunbi laughed as Yujin scrunched her brows, about to throw hands if Eunbi didn’t pick her up soon. The three of them then cuddled together. It’s something they did recently, maybe due to missing the other family on the other side of the world. Yujin was the first one who pulled away.

“Mom, mom! Can we go to Central Park again today?!”

Love was an understatement for Yujin’s affection for Central Park. Little Miyawaki was obsessed with it. Just like how she was obsessed with sword and poop, Yujin could ask Eunbi to go to Central Park everyday, if it's not raining. Up until now, Eunbi doesn’t know what makes her so obsessed with it though. If Sakura is here, she might have known right away. Eunbi patted Yujin’s head.

“Can’t do, baby. Mommy had a meeting with people in the theater today.”

Yujin pouted.

“Can Ding and Wonnie go then?”

Eunbi sighed.

“Ding, we’ve talked about this. I can’t let you go alone like when we’re in Korea. What if you and Wonnie get kidnapped, hm?”

Yujin pouted even more. Wonyoung, who was watching from her mother’s embrace, struggled to get out of it and went to her sister’s side and patted her head. Eunbi smiles at the sight.

“How about next week then? Mommy doesn't have to perform and we can stay in Central Park as long as you want.”

Yujin’s eyes changed and sparkled.

“Really?! We can do that?!”

Eunbi nodded and before she could speak another word, her eyes accidentally glanced at the clock.

“Oh no, we’re gonna be late!”

Eunbi waits until Yujin and Wonyoung are stepping down from her laps before they take whatever they need for the theater later. Once Eunbi checked her kids and ushered them outside the apartment, Eunbi locked the door and held both of their hands. They stopped when Wonyoung tugged Eunbi’s hand.

“Mommy, we don’t call mama?”

Eunbi bit her lips as she forgot to call her family this morning.

“We’ll do it tonight okay?”

Eunbi pulled the kids softly, starting to walk again.

“But mom, we forgot to call them yesterday. Make sure you don’t forget tonight okay?”

Yes, Eunbi knew. Because of her busy schedules with theater, there are some days where Eunbi forgot to call until Sakura texted her. Not like she can't blame anyone except herself. She was the one who decided to take the job, with Sakura’s push. But still, she’s the one who made the last decision, she knew how she’ll be busy, she knew that, but she is still going for her dream.

But now it costs her time with her family.

Sometimes Eunbi wonders if she made the right decision to pursue her dreams. She felt guilty for her family who did nothing but support her. But Sakura always reassures her to pursue her dreams. Nako told her that she’ll take care of her mama, Hitomi said she’ll make sure to make Eunbi proud too so Eunbi should go for her dreams, and then there’s two cuties who follows her all the way to New York that always cheers for her.

She was supported by her family and she was thankful. She promised she’ll make her family proud, no matter what.

..

Sakura leaned back in her chair, feeling exhausted by the amount of work that has to be done this weekend. She was bummed when she got unexpected jobs from work because she was planning to take Nako and Hitomi to New York this weekend to watch Eunbi’s last show before going home together.

But now the plan was cancelled and she was stuck at work. She stared at the picture of them back in Christmas. Eunbi and Nako wear red shirts while Sakura and Hitomi wear green. Yujin and Wonyoung wore christmas tree costumes and stood in the middle. Sakura smiled at the picture, and couldn’t help but caress it. She missed her family.

“Patient, Miyawaki. They’ll be home after Eunbi takes a break.”

Sakura put the picture frame back before her attention went to her phone. Nako called her.

“Yes, kiddo?”

“Ma, we’re downstairs!”

Sakura cocked her brow, feeling confused by Nako’s statement.

“Huh? What do you mean?”

“We’re here to pick you up! Hurry!”

And Nako turned off the call. Feeling like she was pranked, Sakura called the receptionist.

“Yes, Ms. Miyawaki?”

“Hi Riko, could you please check if my daughters are in the lobby?”

The other line went quiet before she could hear the familiar sounds.

“Yes ma’am. Would you like me to stay with them?”

Sakura smiled at her phone while she gathered her things.

“No need, I’ll be down in a minute. Thanks Riko.”

Sakura hurriedly went down to the lobby to fetch her daughters. Once she’s downstairs, she smiles at Riko, who was playing with Nako and Hitomi.

“Thanks Riko.”

Riko nodded and went back to her desk after she bid goodbye to Nako and Hitomi. The family then walked together to their home.

On their way back home, they went to a nearby market to buy something for dinner. Ever since they went to Japan, they only get to eat home-cooked meals on weekends, if Sakura is not tired. They bought beef croquettes and some takoyaki for dinner today. Nako is usually gonna cook miso soup or doenjang jjigae that was taught by Eunbi.

The family of three went past a playground on their way home, making Sakura take her children on a detour.

“Do you remember how me and your mom took you guys to a playground when you guys were still babies?”

Nako nodded while Hitomi shook her head. Understandable, since Hitomi probably still around two years old back then.

“I remember you used to push the swing for me.”

Sakura grinned at Nako, who was reminiscing the past as she sat on the swing. Sakura silently went to her behind and pushed the swing softly, making her go back and forth between her two kids. It makes Sakura’s heart at ease when she hears the laughter from her older kids.

“Nako unnie! Let’s kick our shoes!!”

Nako and Hitomi look back at Sakura who grinned down at her. They know by heart if Eunbi was here they're gonna get trouble.

“Okay, get ready you two! I’m gonna push you both at the same time. One… two… three!”

Another joyful day for the half of the Miyawaki family in Japan.

--

“Come in.”

Eunbi opened the door softly. She was called by the director of the theater after her last performance. Eunbi bowed her head to Jessica Jung, the director. Jessica smiles at the sight of Eunbi.

“Please, have a seat Ms. Kwon.”

Eunbi went to the seat in front of Jessica’s desk. Eunbi using her maiden name, courtesy of Sakura who told her to use it to make it simple for her.

“Congratulations for your last performance. As expected, you were amazing.”

Eunbi smiles bashfully at the compliment.

“You’re too kind, Ms. Jung. I still need to practice a lot.”

Jessica smiled at the humble actress in front of her. She was actually surprised when Eunbi came with two young kids the moment she came to the theater. She was not expecting her to be a mother when she looks so young. But aside from that, Jessica saw her potential as a theater actress. Jessica rests her chin on her hands, eyes looking straight at Eunbi.

“I’m just gonna go straight to why I called you here.”

Eunbi silently gulped, and couldn’t help but feeling super nervous. She thought Jessica called her here to congratulate her last performance and maybe give her some tips for her future activities wherever she was.

“Am I in trouble?”

Jessica smiles softly at her.

“No, on the contrary, I want to give you a permanent contract here in New York. Our audiences love your performance and feedback for your performances from the critics is positive.”

Eunbi blinked her eyes at the offer.

“I’m sorry, what?”
