Beauty Behind The Madness'Ooh, said you wanna be good but you couldn't keep your composure. Ooh, said you wanna be good but you're begging me to come over'
~
A month and a half passed and, without fail, Daehyun traveled to the north twice a week to visit Youngjae. Sometimes he showed up unannounced and was thankful to always find the omega. Youngjae didn’t think much of it. He’d grown used to the alpha’s unexpected visits. Eventually, he began to wait for him, wondering when the alpha would come next. It was quite entertaining for him. For he knew every time Daehyun was away from home, the more doubt grew in his girlfriend’s mind, and Daehyun was completely unaware of it.
Youngjae wondered if the doubt was tormenting her now, and if so, if he should try to put an end to it soon. But at the same time, Daehyun’s visits were like a breath of fresh air for him. Strangely, he felt more at ease in the elder’s presence and he was able to tune out his tormenting thoughts.
“Don’t you think I should be choosing my fun now?” Youngjae asked. They were sat at ta booth in a 50’s themed diner. Daehyun ordered them both a large vanilla shake, topped with a mountain of whipped cream and a cherry on top, along with a basket of fries for them to share. Daehyun had caught Youngjae on his lunch break from work and took him there to eat.
“Oh. We’re still doing that?” Daehyun questioned, taking a spoonful from his milkshake.
Youngjae studied him. “You don’t think it ended because you’ve been doing most of what you want?”
Daehyun shrugged, “Not exactly. I’ve been doing what we want.”
Youngjae raised an eyebrow.
“I’m sure you’ve been having fun too.” Daehyun smiled.
Youngjae scoffed, “You believe everything you see?” He grabbed a fry from the basket.
Daehyun leaned back in the booth and watched the younger carefully. The omega took another fry, chewing it slowly before taking a sip from his milkshake. A large smile grew on Daehyun’s lips. The omega just proved his point without even knowing it. But he didn’t dare say this to him.
“This game should just end. I’m having too much fun.” Daehyun smiled. “The higher you go, the harder you’ll fall~.” Youngjae hummed, taking another sip from his drink. “Not when I have you to catch me.” Daehyun countered.
Youngjae frowned at his words. He reached for the longest fry and dipped it int o the alpha’s milkshake. “Oops. Looks like I ruined your shake.”
Daehyun only smiled, “I’m always up for something new.” He leaned forward and bit into the ice cream covered fry in the omega’s hands.
Youngjae’s eyes widened. He immediately dropped what was left of the fry onto the table. “Gross.” He didn’t expect him to do such a thing. Daehyun’s face contorted as he swallowed. “That was gross.” He agreed with a shiver. “Oh well. Now I know not to try that again.” He smiled. “Unless you ask me to.”
Youngjae stared at him in disbelief. “Why are you like this?” He ran his fingers through his hair. Daehyun laughed in response. “Why are you even here? Don’t you work?” Youngjae questioned, deciding to change the subject. “I do work.” Daehyun answered. “I work under my dad’s company.”
“Shouldn’t you be there instead of skipping every week?”
Daehyun shrugged, “It doesn’t necessarily matter. I don’t get paid for the amount of work I do. I’m practically just there for good measure and to know the business. My sister is the one who’s inheriting the business anyway. They won’t miss me if I’m gone two days out of the week>”
Youngjae cocked a surprised eyebrow. “You don’t get paid?”
“Not what I’m supposed to get, no. I only get enough to use to go out with. I had to save up for years before I could even buy my car. It’s my mom’s doing. He doesn’t want me to buy my own place in the city. After my sister got her own place again his will, he had my father cut my pay short, so I wouldn’t be able to do the same.” Daehyun explained.
“What?” Youngjae laughed, “Don’t you think that’s unfair?”
“At first I was mad. But I understand his concern. He’s lost too many people in his life. He’s just scared. So, I don’t mind it too much. Plus, it gives me a little more freedom of how many days I miss work. Since half of the stuff I do, I don’t get paid for.” Daehyun beamed.
Youngjae huffed, leaning back in the leather booth. However, he understood where the elder was coming from. He could buy his own place in the city if he wanted to. He could buy his own car to drive anywhere he wanted to. If he wanted to. But he didn’t d an of those things, knowing the stress it’d put on his father. Plus, he rather be as close as possible to his family, as much as possible. “So, you use that freedom to come here.” He said.
Daehyun thought about it before nodding. “But not with your girlfriend.” Youngjae accused.
“What?” Daehyun was caught off guard.
Youngjae looked into Daehyun’s eyes and laughed. He reached out and traced his finger along the alpha’s jawline. “You haven’t noticed, but I have. You’ve changed.” He began.
“You look at me differently. Your intentions have changed, and you keep making excuses for it. First you wanted to get to know me. Now you claim you want to help me.”
Daehyun’s eyes widened in surprise. He tried to be careful so that the younger didn’t catch on to the fact that he was trying to help him. Youngjae noticed this and laughed again. “You think I’m an idiot? Daehyun. I can see right through you.” He tilted his head to the side. “I think you’re the one who needs help.”
His finger stopped at the alpha’s chin and moved up to his lips. He pressed his thumb into his lower lip. “You don’t think I can feel your wolf calling for me?” He said. “You can’t possibly keep coming to me and still claim that you have a girlfriend.” A smirk grew on his lips.
He pulled Daehyun forward and stood up. He leaned across the table to whisper in the alpha’s ear. “This is our final meeting.” He whispered. “If you really want to see me, then come to me in all honesty.” Daehyun subconsciously growled under the omega’s touch and closeness. “Break up with her. Then I’ll see you.” Youngjae released his hold and stood up straight to see the alpha break out into a cold sweat. He chuckled a little. “You’re not like me Daehyun. You can’t fight your nature.” He slid out the booth and walked out the dinner, fighting the sharp pain that etched his body from being so close to the alpha. He knew exactly how he was going to take his fun away. It was something no wolf could fight, except for him.
Daehyun gasped. He felt as if he couldn’t breathe by how close the omega was to him. He groaned, feeling somewhat defeated, but he didn’t understand why. He didn’t understand the words that were just spoken to him. He didn’t like the idea of not seeing Youngjae anymore. But he couldn’t break up with Haeryung. They’re supposed to be mates soon.
“Where’s Jaebum?” Youngjae asked Jinyoung at the end of their work day. “He’s working late again.” The beta answered.
For the past few weeks, Jaebum had been working over time at work every day without fail. He was known to work over time on occasions, but now it was becoming overly excessive.
“Does he still talk to that human?” Youngjae asked curiously. Jinyoung shrugged. “I haven’t seen him since that night we were at Jaebum’s apartment.”
Youngjae thought to himself for a moment. Jinyoung looked at him, sharing the same suspicion. “Let’s wait for him.” Youngjae finally said. Jinyoung nodded in agreement.
They waited inside the building where they couldn’t be seen by the alpha. When the alpha finally left his office, they followed him out the building. They made sure to keep a good distance away from the alpha, knowing that if they were too close, he’d sense them.
They followed him throughout the streets onto the subway. They were surprised when he got off a different stop, past where his apartment was. The two quickly followed him back onto the street. Youngjae recognized the area they were in as they passed the club, he went to months ago with Daehyun.
Their trek ended at a secluded convenient store. Jaebum stopped in front of the store. He stood by a tree, where he could barely be seen. The alpha smiled to himself, staring into the shop.
Youngjae raised an eyebrow as he and Jinyoung ducked behind a car, across from their friend. They stretched their necks to peek through the store window and spotted a familiar human checking out a customer at the register. The two looked at each other, cheeky grins on their lips. “We should go before he notices us.” Jinyoung whispered. Youngjae nodded and the two snuck away from the store.
“So, that’s where he goes off to after work every day.” Jinyoung smirked when he and Youngjae boarded the subway. Youngjae nodded. Jinyoung thought silently to himself. “You know, that week you were gone he had him at his apartment and had him pretend to be you.” Jinyoung scoffed at the failed attempt to fool him.
“Really?” Youngjae laughed. “How did that go?”
The beta just looked at him, earning another laugh in response.
“I wonder how they met. I haven’t seen him until now.” Jinyoung said. Youngjae nodded in agreement, though he had an idea of about when they might’ve met. “We shouldn’t ask him about it yet. He’ll get embarrassed.” He smirked, leaning back in his seat, closing his eyes.
