London, England

Kim Dongwan strode down the long dark hallway slowly.

Four recruits stood waiting in a straight line staring at the wall across from the them. Alaistair Hastings, the Head Auror of the British Ministry of Magic, stood opposite them as he waited for Dongwan to approach.

When he arrived Dongwan didn’t stop. Instead, he continued walking and made sure to look over the face of every one of the four new recruits. The recruits, to their credit, did not waver even when he made direct eye contact with them. Once he finally reached the last recruit, he stopped and turned around.

“Today, marks the end of your training,” he announced. He paused. No one moved. Everyone only dared to look straight ahead like the trained soldiers they were. However Dongwan, with his trained eye, caught slight indications of surprise and confusion on their faces.

“Most aurors have to go through a minimum of three years of training,” Dongwan explained as he slowly started to make his way towards the middle.

“However,” he suddenly stopped and his heels to face the recruits. He was glad to see no one flinched. “We have deemed you all already worthy enough to become fully fledged aurors. And thus, we will waive the last five months of your training.”

At this, the aurors in training shifted a little. Many of them were still surprised and confused at the news, but nonetheless excited.

“The Ministry is in need of your services,” Dongwan elaborated as his eyes swept over the newest batch of aurors. “Remember your training, know your duties, and face your fears.”

He paused, giving the four ample time to let his words sink in.

“You are dismissed. Pick up your badges from the Auror Office when you leave. From this moment on, you are officially aurors to the British Ministry of Magic. Congratulations.”

“Yes sir!”

Dongwan watched with careful eyes as the four now fully fledged aurors exited the hallway, barely able to conceal their glee and excitement from their steps.

“Are you sure this is smart?” Alaistair Hastings asked his superior.

“It is necessary,” Dongwan replied, dodging the question. “The Ministry has a shortage of aurors right now and we need every single abled body out on the field. The attack on Notre Dame two days ago has put every Ministry on alert.”

“What do you propose we do to the second and first year aurors in training then?” Alaistair asked. “I suppose you want to accelerate their training as well?”

“Yes,” Dongwan answered immediately. “I will leave their training in your hands.”

“Very well,” Alaistair acquiesced with a forced down sigh.

“I have to go back to France for the convention now.” Dongwan glanced at his Head Auror over his shoulder. “Stay on your toes,” he warned before leaving.

Yuri looked down at her desk proudly. She finally got her own cubicle and workspace. She was an official auror now! She flipped open the badge and admired it. It took three whole years of training (well minus a couple of months) just to obtain it. No more missions involving stray pets, or exploding pranks to clean up. She was a fully fledged auror now which meant she was finally in the big leagues.

The first thing Yuri did of course was write a letter to her beloved.

Guess what?!?!?!

I’m an auror now! It’s official!!!

Anyways, love you and work hard. Don’t forget to eat your lunch and take breaks!

After sending an owl away with her letter, Yuri glanced over her cubicle to the row of cubicles next to her.

‘I wonder if Taeyeon’s here. Last I heard, she’s supposed to be in Korea on some three month undercover mission.’

After graduation, both Yuri and Taeyeon got accepted into the auror training program. However, unlike Yuri, Taeyeon did not have to go through the whole three year training. Taeyeon’s mastery of skills allowed her to ace Concealment and Disguise as well as Stealth and Tracking. Therefore, she graduated after only one year of training, becoming the youngest auror to be initiated since 1995. While Yuri was still stuck in training, Taeyeon was already traveling off into the world, a fully fledged auror.

Not expecting anything, Yuri decided to stop by her friend’s cubicle anyways.

Imagine her surprise when she found the cubicle was not only occupied, but by none other than her friend who was supposed to be thousands of miles away on a covert mission.

“Taeyeon?!” Yuri couldn’t help but exclaim.

Taeyeon looked up from the documents she was studying. Her face lit up when she realized who had called her name.

“Yuri! Long time no see!” Taeyeon then noticed the official auror badge in Yuri’s hands. “Ah! I see you graduated from training! Congrats!”

Yuri was still staring at Taeyeon in shock.

“Taeyeon, what are you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be in Korea right now? Was the mission a bust? Is that why you’re back? Did you fail your assignment?” Yuri fired question after question.

“Woah!” Taeyeon grabbed Yuri to calm her down. “Calm down first and then I’ll explain,” she laughed.

Yuri paused, halfway through a question, but eventually calmed down.

“Okay,” Taeyeon started once she saw Yuri relax. “First of all, I didn’t fail my mission.” She shot Yuri an amused look. Yuri smiled sheepishly, a bit embarrassed by her dramatic overreaction.

“I was in the middle of the mission when I received a message from the Head of Magical Law Enforcement,” Taeyeon explained.

“Your father,” Yuri clarified.

“Yeah,” Taeyeon nodded. It was still awkward to address her father in a professional setting for some reason.

“Met him a couple minutes ago. He’s a scary dude, huh?” Yuri commented absentmindedly. She shivered slightly when she recalled the way his eyes looked. They were sharp and piercing.

“I guess?” Taeyeon laughed, unsure of how to react exactly. “Anyways, I received a message telling me to come back to Britain and that I have a new assignment.”

Yuri furrowed her eyebrows. “That’s rather unusual, isn’t it?”

“That’s what I thought too,” Taeyeon agreed.

“Your new assignment must be urgent then,” Yuri guessed.

Taeyeon slid the documents she was reading towards Yuri. “It’s on the attack on Notre Dame a few days ago. I assume you’ve heard of it?”

Yuri whistled. “Have I heard of it? It’s the only thing everyone's been talking about lately. Even the Muggles are losing their heads over it. It’s all over the news,” she commented. “The attack was the reason why our graduation from training was pushed early by five months.”

“The Ministry must be getting desperate,” Taeyeon murmured to herself. “They rarely relax on their regulations. The last time they graduated this many people early was during the Second Wizarding War.”

“Yeah, but if we’re this desperate imagine how the French Ministry must be faring,” Yuri raised a point. “They must be doing everything they can to solve this investigation.”

“That’s actually my new assignment,” Taeyeon revealed as Yuri bent down to read the documents more closely. “They’re sending me over to France to work with the French Ministry on the investigation of what happened with the fire.”

“No way,” Yuri exhaled, still busy scanning over the document with the mission details.

Taeyeon hummed, eyeing Yuri as an idea hit her.

“Hey,” she called out.

“Hm?” Yuri responded distractedly, still reading the document.

“You just became an official auror, right?” Taeyeon asked slowly.

Yuri looked up. “Yeah?” She raised an eyebrow, wondering where Taeyeon was going with this. “Why?”

“Have you received your first mission yet?” Taeyeon asked, a perfect facade of innocence.

Yuri furrowed her eyebrows. “No, not yet but-” Her eyes widened as she realized what Taeyeon was suggesting. Taeyeon’s grin widened as Yuri stared wide eyed at her.

“No way,” Yuri gasped.

“Why not?” Taeyeon shrugged as Yuri fought to control her giddiness. “I need a partner for this anyways.”

“Oh my bloody Merlins,” Yuri squealed. An official mission minutes right after she completed her training? Merlins yes!

“So is that a yes or what?” Taeyeon asked, practically laughing now. “We start tomorrow.”

“Of course that’s a yes! Merlins I love you!” Yuri declared as she flung herself onto Taeyeon.

“Hey!” Taeyeon protested as she tried to push Yuri off of her. “What if your girlfriend heard you saying that huh? I don’t want to be killed, yet. I’m too young.”

“Just accept my love!”

“Ewwwwwww!”

“Alright,” Taeyeon eyed Yuri as she approached her. “Do you have everything?”

Yuri nodded excitedly. “Yup! I still can’t believe I’m going on my first auror mission. And with you as my partner!”

Taeyeon chuckled. “I’m starting to regret asking you to be my partner,” she joked.

“Hey! I will show you just how awesome of a partner I am. You’ll regret saying that,” Yuri declared.

“Whatever,” Taeyeon rolled her eyes lightheartedly. “You ready to go?”

“Yup. Ready when you are, Kim,” Yuri mock saluted.

Taeyeon scoffed. “Let’s go then, dork.” She then quickly apparated away. Yuri followed her lead.

The two appeared in the middle of Place de Furstemberg, a small square in Paris.

“You know, I’ve always wanted to visit Paris,” Yuri remarked as she took in her new surroundings. It was very quaint and the architecture was quite lovely. Yuri spotted a cute looking cafe and stored it into the back of her mind to try later.

“Come on. Save the touristy stuff for later,” Taeyeon interrupted her musings. “We have an assignment to do,” Taeyeon stated as she took off towards the middle of the square, leaving Yuri to follow after her in a hurry.

The two stopped in the middle of a fountain. Immediately, a metal barrier started to form around them and suddenly they were descending in a makeshift elevator.

Yuri blinked once. When she opened her eyes again, the vastness of the French Ministry of Magic appeared before her.

“Woah,” Yuri couldn’t help but exclaim, taken aback by how grand everything was. Though the British Ministry of Magic was also just as grand, it didn’t stop her surprise at seeing the French Ministry.

“Pretty, isn’t it?” Taeyeon commented with a knowing smile.

The elevator arrived at the floor and Taeyeon led Yuri towards the front desk where a witch greeted them.

“Bienvenue au Ministère de la Magie Français, comment je peux vous aider?”

Yuri stared at the woman uncomprehendingly. “I’m sorry but I have no idea what you just said. I don’t -”

“Bonjour, nous recherchons un Beaumont. Il est le chef de Bureau de la Justice Magique.,” Taeyeon cut in with fluent French. Yuri turned to stare at her friend, completely flabbergasted.

“Il nous attend,” Taeyeon added.

The woman flitted her eyes towards Yuri before looking down at her book. Yuri raised her eyebrows at the not so subtle action.

“Ah oui. Il vous attend au quatrième étage,” the woman stated.

Taeyeon nodded gratefully. “Parfait, merci,” she thanked the woman and proceeded to drag Yuri away.

“Did you see the way she looked at me? She totally just judged me!” Yuri whispered indignantly.

“No she didn’t,” Taeyeon mumbled, already exhausted by her friend’s dramatics.

“And you!” Yuri whirled around towards Taeyeon. “Since when were you fluent in French?” she asked bewildered.

“I’ve worked with a French auror before,” Taeyeon explained. “It was a six month
