Foreword

“Don’t worry honey, I’ll make sure this is the last time,”

Ga In let out another sigh, eyes on another unfamiliar road and rows of houses. She’s tired of moving, yet she couldn’t bring herself to complain about it. This time it’s Seoul, South Korea. Her motherland that felt oddly foreign to her. Some people are dying to live a life like hers. Travelling from a city to another, learning new languages occasionally, meeting new people , feels like you’re having vacation all the time except that it never stop and you’ll never feel at home. But at least this time, she won’t be treated like an outsider that much, that’s what she thought. She couldn’t bring herself to trust her mother’s words or even her own thoughts. “Nothing will be different this time,” she mumbled incoherently before resting her head and doze off.

“This is your schedule for now, but you have to see me again after school for syllabus arrangement, I got to look at your previous school record and discuss with the head department for adjustment,” the young school clerk explained while eyeing on her school record, brows crooked. “Thanks,” Ga In replied with a hint of sorry in her tone. Syllabus adjustment is tough, not just for her, but also all the administrator who had to handle her transfer. Sometimes she wished that her mother would not risk that much for her job.

“Ga In we gotta move school,” “Ga In I got a transfer order,” “Dear, there’s a problem in Cebu,” “You like Hawaii right?” “Ga In I’m so sorry,”  those words rang in her ears again and again that somehow she forgot what disappointment felt like. She had used to it. At least being a very busy foreign investment advisor doesn’t make her neglect her daughter. A tear rolled out on her left cheek before she quickly wipe them. Can’t make a bad impression on first day can we ? She thought internally as she walked into a class.

All eyes on her but she couldn’t care about that. Another first day at school, what do you expect? She gave her transfer slip to the teacher and waited for her next word. “Im Ga In, from Berlin, German?” the teacher in his late 40’s asked with squinted eyes on her transfer slip. “Germany are you?” Ga In read his name tag, Park Hyo Shin.“ No, Mr Park , I’m from here, my mom moves a lot.” She replied short.  “Have a seat then, welcome to Han Shin High,” Mr Park showed her an empty spot.

She sat down and started taking out her notebook. “Ga In, that seat is occupied,” She heard someone whispered. She glanced at the other two seats next to her and pointed “This one?” she asked. “The whole front row is occupied,” the boy replied “Huh? Oh, then where do I sit?” She replied to the boy who sat behind her softly as Mr Park had already started his lesson on Kinetic Movement Theory. The boy patted on the seat next to him with a grin. Ga In collected her notebook on the table and as she moved to sit at the second row, a girl with a wavy hair quickly took the seat before her. “You can sit there. I want to sit here today,” She said without looking at her.

Ga In couldn’t help but feel uncomfortable with her actions. But she just brushed it off and returned to the seat she sat on previously. The two seats next to her are now occupied by two handsome guys. Her eyes lay on the guy next to her. His handsome physique does take her breath for a quick two second, but she decided to look at the whiteboard as he turned sideways and their eyes met. The boy smirked before whispering to her. “It’s bad to stare, but if it’s you, I’ll allow it.”
