Fall

Fall

The fall was his season, a season I happened to walk into.
The breezes and discoloration of the leaves seemed foreign to my eyes.
I've only known nature to be lush and green.
The rays of the Sun to be jarring and airless.
Autumn told a different story.
The air, bearable.
The breeze, free.
The coldness, healing.

He was as strange as Autumn.
I barely knew him even though he was always there.
As the trees around me eased into an emotive orange, he was hidden in the background of on-going life.
Now, he stood in the forefront.

Neither of us asked much of each other except for friendship.
An ease for a second from the past season.
We both knew what was like to be alone in love, to fall fast for someone.
Both of us looking at others but not at each other.
Neverthless, our hands entwined like branches.

The pain left behind started to settle. Replaced with a new sense of what it meant to fall slowly and surely.
The more leaves descended from the trees, the more my feelings piled up.
Eyes of a warm chocolate brown and lips that mumbled sweet-nothings.
A fleeting moment of stares felt like the fall air was lifting my soul.
Even with your unwavering affection, I wanted to feel your warmth on me.

My wants remained with me, unheard of by you.
Your words like soft breezes were enough for me until the want simmered then boiled over onto someone that wasn't you.

A strong gust of raw wind blew the pile of feelings away.
Scattering the memories and emotions of an entire season.
Fall was a irreplaceable gift given to me by him.
He, who was a stranger and a friend. A person that showed me what I can have once I'm whole.

A season I happened to walk into.
