Double Date
The Jinx and The Weirdo
It was Sunday and the cinema was packed with families and couples spending time collectively, enjoying their free time. Daiki and Ryosuke decided to come together and meet Amu and Rio at the cinema as planned. They came a little early today - 30 minutes early, to be exact. Both of them were excited to hang out with the two girls.
“You look… dashing today” Ryosuke chuckled after seeing Daiki’s attire with his black faded jeans, black and white polo shirt, white yeezy shoes and dark overall jacket. He looks like someone who was ready for a date. “And am I smelling that super expensive perfume you bought from the states? Wow… I’m impressed”. Ryosuke teased as he knows for a fact that Daiki has a particular someone to impress today - Amu.
“Look who’s talking. You’re not bad yourself” Daiki commented on Ryosuke’s outfit and praised how his red chino shirt had gone nicely with his white trousers plus his oh-so-expensive Nike sneakers. “Is this all for Rio-chan?” The boy teased back and saw Ryosuke’s face almost blending to his red-coloured top.
The two boys were about to banter more when they saw a familiar girl running towards them. It was Amu. “Did you guys wait long?” Amu shifted part of her fringe that revealed the remaining parts of her face. This made Daiki’s heart skip a beat. He looked at her up and down and a smile immediately formed on his face. Daiki couldn’t help but to look at how cute Amu is wearing a simple off-shoulder pastel-coloured top, with its bottom half tucked loosely under her skinny jeans. It’s simple, yet elegant.
Seeing how his friend froze from his place, Ryosuke elbowed the older one, “Don’t stare too much, she’ll melt” he whispered to further tease the latter. Daiki shot him a cold glare before turning back to Amu.
“We’re still waiting for Rio-chan. We still have a few minutes before the movie so you’re just right in time” Daiki explained, trying not to look at Amu too much just in case she reads his mind and notice that he’s currently struggling to stay calm. “You’re actually a bit early”
“To be honest, I was having second thoughts about coming. I still keep thinking about Atsuko-san. I couldn’t help but to read her mind. She hates anyone who comes near you… she likes you very much!” Amu uttered silently with worry painted across her face.
“Moshikae, Amu-chan is jealous?” Ryosuke abruptly said, making not only Amu off-guard but also Daiki. The boy teased further until he felt a whack from his blushing friend.
“Baka!”

A few minutes later, Rio finally arrived panting as if she had ran a full marathon. “I’m sorry I’m late… Being unlucky is hard! I missed my train then it broke down then I had to walk. Sorry” she bowed once and apologised continually.
“It’s okay. We still have time to buy the tickets, right Yama-chan?” Daiki replied and waited for his best friend to answer but it was his turn to freeze. Rio was only wearing a simple white top and a black skirt with tights alongside her flat shoes but it was enough to make Ryosuke look at her in awe. Unlike at school, her long wavy hair was tied up into a bun which revealed most of her face.
“Oi! Say something…” Daiki urged but the latter just stayed frozen.
“Ryosuke-kun would like to say… Rio-chan looks cute today” Amu giggled after reading Ryosuke’s mind. Mind reading has its perks sometimes: teasing your love-struck friends.

Acting as gentlemen, the two boys went on ahead to buy their movie tickets while the girls bought the popcorn. It’s been awhile since Amu and Rio had gone out to the cinema so both of them are still acting shy and awkward with the two boys.
The cinema crew randomly gave them the tickets, not knowing who would like to sit next to who. Daiki sneakily looked down to see Amu’s seat number but he had a hard time reading it.
It appears that the seats are as follows:
Rio = H14
Amu = H15
Ryosuke = H16
Daiki = H17
Daiki secretly cursed at the guy who sold them the tickets since he knew he won’t be sitting next to Amu. Sensing that his friend is not happy with the sitting arrangement, Ryosuke pulled Amu to the side, making Daiki a bit concerned.
“Oi! Where are you taking Amu-chan?” He asked curiously but Ryosuke just shot him a look as if saying ‘trust-me-on-this’. Ryosuke then scooted down and whispered to Amu, not letting Rio or Daiki to listen in.
“Amu-chan… anou… I…” Ryosuke struggled to speak at first. He just couldn’t say upfront that he wanted to sit next to Rio. “I was just wondering if you…”
“You want to sit next to Rio-chan?” Amu finished his sentence. The boy was left speechless as Amu spoke his mind. “You look surprised. I can read minds, remember?” The girl giggled then swapped their tickets. Ryosuke just couldn’t help but to scratch the back of his head in embarrassment. Is he that obvious?
Knowing that his friend succeeded, Daiki winked at Ryosuke as if saying ‘thanks’. The four of them then led their way inside the cinema.

Everything looks dark - pitch black, in fact. Daiki led Amu towards their seat and felt the boy touching the base of her back. He stood so close to her that she can even feel Daiki’s body brushing against her back, making her almost lose her senses. “Don’t worry… I’m right here” the boy reassured after seeing Amu almost trip from another person’s bag on the floor.
The four of them sat down and felt a slight draft on their seat. Amu felt herself shiver and thought that wearing an off-shoulder top today is indeed a bad idea. Sensing this, Daiki took off his jacket and wrapped Amu with it. “This’ll keep you warm”, it was dark but the limited light from the cinema screen was enough to see Daiki’s smile.
“N-No… you’ll be cold!”
“Don’t be silly. I’m hot!” Daiki joked and winked at her. It was lucky that it was dark as it hid Amu’s blushing face after smelling Daiki’s scent through his jacket.

Going to the other couple, Ryosuke saw Daiki’s ‘gentlemanly’ gesture and copied it. He noticed that Rio was wearing a skirt alongside a skin-coloured stocking. He didn’t notice it at first but when she sat down, her skirt revealed a quarter of her legs. Rio’s not wearing a very short skirt - no. Ryosuke is just very particular about non-conservative clothing.
The boy raised his light jacket and laid it over Rio’s lap to cover her legs. “Next time, don’t wear skirts” He said silently but firmly at the same time. It was as if he was scolding Rio but in a loving way.
“Y-You don’t have to… If this stays with me, you can never wear it again since it’ll have my bad luck rubbed all over it” Rio said, referring to Ryosuke’s jacket on her lap. Hearing this, Ryosuke frowned and just felt the urge to land a soft flick on her forehead.
“Baka! I already consider myself lucky sitting next to you”

*2 hours later*
“Ahh! That movie was awesome!” Daiki and Ryosuke were both hyped after the film. The two boys excitedly talked about the movie and gave critiques on different scenes. However, the two girls, Amu and Rio looked at each other as if drained out after a tiring two hours. Why? The two girls couldn’t concentrate, it felt like their hearts pounded from the beginning until the end of the movie.
“I was so nervous, I couldn’t even focus on the story line. Yama-chan was so close to me” Rio said inside her head. Amu caught a glimpse of her and read her mind. She then patted Rio’s shoulder and said: “Me too…” by then, the two girls knew that they understood each other.
—
The two couples went towards the exit of the cinema and found a crowd of people going either inside or exiting the premises. This prompted the boys to get closer to both Amu and Rio just to avoid losing each other.
“I didn’t know it’s this busy every Sunday” Daiki commented, trying to avoid bumping to anyone. He then looked at Amu and saw that she’s struggling to keep up on his pace which led him hold the girl's hand. Amu looked at their hands linked together and just couldn’t help but to blush after feeling Daiki’s warm and soft ones.
Daiki looked around and saw Ryosuke and Rio already being carried by the crowd up to a point that he could only see the top of Ryosuke’s head. It was as if they teleported, the two of them disappeared, leaving Amu and Daiki alone together.
—
“Rio-chan, stay close” Meanwhile, Ryosuke stayed behind Rio and guided her to a less busy part of the exit. He found himself looking for his best friend but to his dismay, both Amu and Daiki are nowhere to be found. Also, he can’t seem to free himself from the crowd of people almost pushing him to get through.
“Ouch!” Rio winced in pain after a stranger stepped on her right foot, making her stumble. The person who stepped on her must’ve caught her tights, leaving a massive hole on the right side of her legs. To make matters worse, her right shoe opened up like it was Miss Pacman.
“Are you hurt?” Ryosuke asked after finally leading Rio outside the building.
“I’m okay…” Rio looked down and saw half of her tights revealing part of her legs alongside her ‘talking’ shoe staring back at her. Being Miss Unlucky, both of them felt droplets of water coming from the sky. This should have been one heck of a romantic day, but now it’s raining! “You gotta be kidding me”
Ryosuke looked up and just couldn’t believe their luck. He then chuckled at Rio’s state as if amused of the whole situation.
“Why are you laughing? I already feel guilty for giving you bad luck” Rio pouted but Ryosuke’s laughter just grew.
“There was no report of rain today but it actually rained because of you? I’m just amused on how UNLUCKY you are. It’s actually cute” Ryosuke teased the latter as if enjoying her torture.
“Come on, I need to get you changed” Ryosuke pulled Rio’s hand but the girl just withdrew it back.
“You don’t have to! I can still walk. Look!” Rio tried her best to walk in a straight line but her right shoe just kept opening up and instead, made her look like a walking drunk zombie. Plus, her ripped tights just made her look like she was robbed by someone. Seeing her state, Ryosuke just shook his head and was amazed on how the girl was acting. It was too obvious that she didn’t want to give
