Giver (Part 1)

The Great Ones

”I hate it. I hate it.” Woozi said, his body shaking. He laid back in a flat bed, around him stood frozen dental surgeons, masks covering their mouths and nose. Ryujin stood nearby, her arms crossing over her chest.

”The faster it goes in, the faster you fall asleep, the faster it’s over.” Ryujin said.

”I told them I wanted them to just numb me!”

“And they told you they were impacted and it was safer and easier to-“

”But they never said it wasn’t impossible!”

“Woozi, just let the people do what they have to.”

Woozi got an idea, “use your power to make me-“

”I’m not doing that.”

“Ryujin!”

“Woozi, face this fear.” Ryujin said before walking out of the room.

“You’re lucky you weren’t here when I froze!” Woozi yelled to her.

Woozi eyed the surgeons then whimpered. He took a deep breath the flicked his hands. The surgeons continued their actions like nothing had happened.

A woman with a gentle voice spoke, “count back from ten for me okay, sweetheart?” She said as she pierced his arm with the IV. Woozi nodded then closed his eyes, he began counting back. Each number made his heart beat faster, and before he knew it he was out.

When his eyes opened, it was like no time had passed. He looked around the room, Seongchul and Ryujin stood around him. Seongchul smiled down at him, a bouquet of roses in his hand. Ryujin stood to the other side with her phone out, a huge smirk on her face. Woozi felt cotton in his mouth, and knew what had happened. He went to touch his face, but Seongchul stopped him.

“Don’t touch your face, babe.”

Woozi nodded. Ryujin looked to his boyfriend, “Can you handle him? I have to see Yoongi off to his school trip.”

Seongchul nodded then rubbed Woozi’s arm. Woozi looked up at him and tried to smile. He winced from the pain.

“Let’s get you out of here, Woozi.” Seongchul said.

Not even ten minutes later, Woozi sat in the passenger seat of Seongchul’s car. Woozi ran a hand through his hair as he stared out the window. Seongchul squeezed his thigh before leaving the parking lot.

“So did you freeze the surgeons?”

Woozi shook his head. ”Really?” Woozi shook his head again. ”I’ll let it slide this time,” Seongchul joked.

A few minutes later, Seongchul pulled into the driveway of the house. He assisted Woozi inside and followed him to his bedroom.

“Are you gonna sleep?” Seongchul asked. Woozi nodded. “I’ll let you do that then.” Woozi nodded again and climbed into his bed.

“I’ll buy some drinks for you at the store, alright?” Woozi nodded and was kissed on the forehead by Seongchul before the latter left. Woozi fell asleep a moment later.

Ryujin pulled into the parking lot of Yoongi’s university. She parked her car. Yoongi was in the passenger seat, his luggage in his arms.

“I’ll pick you up tomorrow at seven.”

“Okay.” Yoongi said while he rubbed his tired eyes. “Who plans a trip at nine in the morning?”

“Normal people.”

“Whatever. I’ll see you tomorrow.” Yoongi said before exiting the car with his stuff. Ryujin pulled out of the parking lot and drove home.

Yoongi walked into the classroom where his class was meeting. There were only ten students who were going on the trip. The woman who weirded Yoongi out was there, chatting with the professor.

A moment later, the professor called out to his class. “Let’s get going to the bus now!”

Yoongi, the professor, and the other students walked outside. Yoongi eyed the bus waiting for them, it looked a little dingy.

“That looks ugly.” A female student commented.

”Yeah.” Another girl added.

“It doesn’t need to look pretty.” The odd girl said, snarling at the two girls.

Yoongi and the group entered the bus, finding a man wearing a flannel and jeans with a baseball cap at the wheel. As the students sat down, the driver put the bus in drive and stepped on the gas, sending some of the students stumbling into seats.

“Smooth.” The professor said to the driver.

Yoongi sat down in the middle of the bus. He stared out the window, holding his luggage close.

An hour passed until the group arrived at their location. It was a large village, the houses built with wood, and the villagers wearing variations of the same outfit; a button up shirt and jeans. Some of the students found this odd.

The group was met by one of the villagers. The man was skinny and tall, towering over some of the students. He smiled at the professor then turned to the odd girl.

“Why do I feel your the one whose most excited for this glorious night.”

“I bet I am.” The girl said.

”My name is Hyungjae, welcome to our sanctuary.” The man said, motioning to the village behind him. The professor chuckled. “I will lead you to the few houses for you lot to bunk in.”

Hyungjae led the class to two log homes, both looking the exact same in appearance. There were two windows in the front, one on each side of the front door. To the sides there were two windows each, one side had an electrical unit. The back, where the bedrooms were located, had two windows; one for each room.

Yoongi settled in to one of the vacant homes, going right to the bedroom and picking the bottom bunk of a bunk bed. Another guy decided to sleep on the floor instead of a bunk bed, saying he doesn’t do bunk beds. Yoongi shrugged at him.

“This is weird.” The guy said. His name was Heechul, and he was known in the class for being very sassy and outgoing.

“I agree.” Yoongi said as he eyed the bedroom.

Yoongi and Heechul exited the bedroom to enter the small living room, which also included the kitchen on the other side. All that was there was a sofa with a wooden frame, a coffee table and a small television ok a stand. The kitchen had a small table with four chairs placed around, a candlestick in the center for light, a row of counters against the wall, and a wood stove and refrigerator beside them. A wooden trash can with a bag in it, completely empty, stood beside the fridge. Behind a door to the right, was the other bedroom; and beside that door, was the bathroom. A simple toilet, sink and shower.

“I’m surprised they have electricity.” Heechul said as he sat down on the couch. Yoongi nodded.

The other bedroom door opened, and out came a fat couple. Sehun and Luhan, they had almost complete opposite appearances. Sehun stood slightly taller than Luhan, but Luhan was older.

Sehun nodded his head at Yoongi and Heechul, “Sup?”

“Nothing.” Yoongi answered.

“I miss Oliver.” Luhan said, tugging on Sehun’s arm. “Why does this place have no signal?”

Yoongi took out his phone and checked. There was no signal. Heechul did the same.

“Oliver is busy anyways, getting ready for his wedding with Suho.”

Yoongi realized the older man, Luhan, wasn’t from his class. “You’re not in our class.”

Luhan nodded, “I’m in the professors night class. I’m the only one who went from my class.”

“Oh, I see.”

Sehun wrapped his hand around Luhan’s waist, “Let’s go -“

Luhan quickly elbowed Sehun. Sehun winced in pain then glared at his boyfriend. Luhan ignored the look then went back in his room, Sehun followed.

“And I thought I was the gayest man here.” Heechul commented. Yoongi couldn’t help but chuckle. “Don’t we have stuff to do today?”

”Yeah.”

”Wanna get it over with?”

“Yes, please. Should we ask-“

”I’d rather not, god forbid we interrupt their intimate moment.” Heechul said with attitude.

“Okay then.”

Yoongi and Heechul left the home and walked over to the professor, who was speaking in hushed tone with the odd girl and Hyungjae. They got their assignment, which would only take them an hour tops to complete. They went off to complete what they were assigned, returned to the professor, who was now speaking to a muscled man, who had scars running all over his body. Heechul turned in the assignment.

“You’re free to enjoy sanctuary,” the professor said, raising his hands to motion at the village.

“Cool.” Heechul said. Yoongi nodded and followed Heechul back to their building.

There wasn’t much to do at that point, since there was no signal. Heechul grabbed the TV remote and turned it on, it opened to a sort of church show. Heechul tried turning the channel, but there wasn’t any others.

“Great. My only entertainment is God.”

“Their God is glorious!” A familiar girls voice yelled. Standing in the front doorway, the odd girl stood with anger in her eyes. “You best not joke around here about their god-“

”Listen here Carrie, I don’t need a lecture about religion. I’m already going to hell for being so fabulous, so I have-“

”It is unwise to joke of the fiery pit.”

“Carrie-“ Yoongi started.

”My name isn’t Carrie.” The girl said with gritted teeth.

”Obviously not, do you see her using telekinesis?” Heechul joked. Yoongi couldn’t even laugh at that comment, seeing as he’s seen someone use such power.

“You best believe you’ll be first.” The girl said before slamming the door shut as she left.

”You best believe you’ll be first,” Heechul repeated mockingly. “I’m shook.”

“What is her name?” Yoongi asked.

”Hwa Sa, I think. Who cares?”

Yoongi nodded and sighed. Heechul looked around the room, finding a set of playing cards and cheered. “Finally! Something to do! Let’s play.”

Yoongi and Heechul played several card games. However, Yoongi couldn’t get what Hwa Sa said out of his head.

While Heechul was shuffling the cards, Yoongi spoke “what do you think she meant about you’ll be first?”

Heechul shrugged, not bothered in the slightest. “I don’t know.” Heechul dealt the cards, “you can go first.”

After a while, Yoongi and Heechul stopped and decided to sit around the living area. Eventually, Luhan and Sehun entered from outside.

“It’s so dark out there.” Sehun commented as he walked in. “Very creepy.”

”How so?”

”We kept getting looked at by some of the villagers, like creepy looks.”

“We are in a creepy place.” Heechul added.

“It’s nothing to worry about.” Yoongi said.

Luhan turned to Sehun, “will you protect me from bad guys?”

Heechul pretended to gag. Yoongi smirked at his action.

“Of course.” Sehun said, pulling Luhan into a hug.

Suddenly, there was the sound of metal hitting metal; then the power went out. The four looked up at the lights above. Heechul groaned.

“Really? Power outage on the day we are here?” Heechul said angrily.

“That’s weird.” Yoongi muttered.

“I’ll go check.” Heechul said, not even giving time for Yoongi to stop him. Heechul stomped outside.

”Babe, get my flashlight. It’s in my bag.” Sehun said to Luhan. Luhan nodded and went into his room.

Suddenly, a scream resonated within the area, then a gargling sound, then the sound as if something slumped to the ground. It was right outside the building. Sehun joined Yoongi.

”What the hell-“

”Lock the door behind me. Don’t let anyone in!” Yoongi commanded. He dashed outside and to the electrical box. Sehun followed.

“I told you to-“ Yoongi stopped when seeing the outline of a dark figure slumping against the house, a pitchfork lodged deep into its stomach. It was Heechul.

Sehun let out a gasp and covered his mouth. Yoongi stared for a moment then grabbed Sehun by the wrist and dragged him inside. He used his foot to shut the door behind him. He led the shaken kingka into his bedroom, where Luhan was searching for the flashlight.

“Did you fix-“ before Luhan could say more, he noticed the look on his boyfriend’s face. “What’s wrong?” Sehun didn’t answer, he just took Luhan into his arms and held him close.

“Lock the door, stay with-“ before Yoongi could finish, the sound of the front door opening stopped him.

Yoongi stared into the dark living room. He clenched his fist, secretly conjuring a small wisp of flame inside; but it was bright enough to catch the attention of the intruder.

The intruder suddenly charged into the room, brandishing an axe. Before he could even swing, which was his intention, Yoongi kicked him back. Yoongi quickly lunged at the man, grabbing ahold of the axe with his free hand and focusing power into it. Everyone around was shocked to see the axe disintegrate. Yoongi took this opportunity to enlarge the wisp in his hand and set the man ablaze. Yoongi noticed he was a villager, but something was different. There was a darker tint to his skin, and his eye color had become a bright red. The man screamed out in pain as he quickly burned. Yoongi motioned his hand up, heating the flames more and making them larger. It didn’t take long for the man to fall to the ground dead.

Sehun and Luhan looked at the body. A look of terror on their face. Yoongi turned to the two, who took a step back.

“You guys okay?” Yoongi asked. The two nodded. “Great. Okay, lock the door behind me. Don’t open it for anyone, not even me. You’ll know when it’s me. Understand?” The boys nodded again. “Good talk.” Yoongi said before running outside.

Sehun took a deep breath and closed the front door behind him, locking it; then joined his boyfriend in his bedroom and locked that door as well. The two sat in darkness, holding each other close.
