Of What Occurs

The Great Ones

Woozi and Yoongi walked down the stairs into the basement of a dingy old house. The house was abandoned years ago by its past owners, but rumors of a horned monster around town and pets going missing and ending up dead in the house brought the two to the house. Ryujin was outside the house, scanning the windows for any sign of a horned beast.

”Okay, so we have checked the entire house. Nothing. Maybe it was just a rumor.” Yoongi said, taking the lead to the basement.

“Well, we haven’t checked here yet. So let’s just look then we can leave.”

“I’m hoping there is nothing. I have to study for my test.”

The two reached the basement floor. It was dark, but light seeped in from the small windows scattered throughout the room. There were cardboard boxes all around the room. Dust gathered everywhere, taking over every crevice.

”Another one?” Woozi said. He started examining some of the boxes, coughing when dust came off.

”Yep.” Yoongi kicked over a box, which spilled out cracked and broken picture frames.

“Don’t break anything.”

Yoongi motioned to the picture frames, “I think they are already broken.”

“Well,” Woozi took one last look around then sighed. “Nothing is here.”

”Great! Let’s go home.” Yoongi said with a smile.

The two started to head back to the stairs. However, there was a scuffle just behind them. They stopped and turned. There was no obvious difference in the room.

“Maybe just a rat.” Yoongi said.

”Wait.” Woozi said. He scanned the room again. He pointed to a box in the center of the room, it looked brand new. “Where did that come from?”

“Hasn’t it been there?”

”No. I would remember it.”

“Woozi-“

Suddenly, the box in the center transformed into a horned beast. It’s size just above six foot. It’s body was covered in shiny fur. A long twirled horn, made out of some otherworldly wood, glistened from the sunlight in the center of its forehead. Its eyes glowed yellow.

“Oh crap.” Yoongi exclaimed. He conjured a fireball immediately and threw it at the beast.

The beast dodged it with ease, then let out a loud roar. It shaked the walls. Ryujin heard it from outside. She went running inside the house.

Woozi was thrown against the wall, his breath knocked out of him. Yoongi summoned fireballs over and over again, chucking them at the beast, who dodged them with ease. Ryujin finally appeared on the stairs. She immediately focused in on the beast.

Get on your knees.

The beast began to kneel, but stopped midway then roared again. Ryujin felt a sharp pain in her head. She shrieked and had to sit down on the stairs from the pain. Yoongi let out a war cry then charged the beast.

The beast easily grabbed Yoongi by the throat, picking him up off his feet. It began to squeeze. Yoongi channeled power into his fingertips then gripped its horn. A moment later, the beast disintegrated.

Yoongi fell to the ground and tried to catch his breath. Ryujin walked over, slapping Yoongi on the head, then went to a dazed Woozi.

“What was that far?” Yoongi asked, rubbing his head.

Ryujin let out a large sigh then eyed Yoongi while helping Woozi up. “That thing almost killed you.”

”It didn’t. I had a plan.”

“Endangering yourself to do that is not smart.” Woozi added, gripping his throbbing head.

“I have no other way to use that power.” Yoongi said to defend himself.

”You need to be more careful then, what if it didn’t work?”

“But it did. What’s the big deal?!”

”You could die.”

“Which isn’t fun.” Woozi added.

Yoongi sighed then walked up the stairs. Ryujin and Woozi shared a look then followed him out. The three got into Ryujin’s car then drove back home. The ride was quiet. After returning home, Yoongi opened the door and ran inside. Woozi and Ryujin got out, Ryujin helped Woozi inside and to the couch. Woozi sat down then laid down.

“You okay?”

“Just need to close my eyes right now.”

“Okay. I’m going to go kick Yoongi’s .”

Woozi grabbed Ryujin’s arm, “leave him alone. He is more worried about school than anything else right now.”

“Fine. I’ll leave him alone, for now.”

The rest of the day was quiet. Woozi stayed on the couch, Ryujin went to work, and Yoongi stayed in his room working on homework. The next day, Yoongi woke up early and ran out the door for school. Woozi woke up on the couch a couple hours later, a blanket covering him. He reached to his phone which was on the coffee table, seeing several missed calls from Seongchul. He placed his phone on his chest and tapped the screen till he was calling Seongchul, he put on speaker phone.

”Woozi?!” Seongchul said, sounding worried.

”Hey.” Woozi said weakly.

”Are you okay?!”

“Yeah, sorry. I got thrown around by-“

”Say no more, babe. I’m on my way. You are home right?”

“Babe?”

”What?”

”You called me babe.” Woozi couldn’t help but smile.

”Well, you’re my baby. I like you a lot.” Seongchul paused then continued, “I love you.”

Woozi’s eyes widened. His mouth opened up so wide he could fit his fist inside.

After about a minute of silence, Seongchul spoke “Woozi?”

Woozi gathered himself then spoke, “Yes?!”

“I said I love you.”

“I know!”

“And?”

”I wish I could freeze you!”

“Why are you raising your voice, it’s so high and your voice keeps cracking.”

”Yeah!”

“Woozi, I love you.” Seongchul said again, his voice beginning to tremble.

“Seongchul.”

Seongchul sighed, “I’m guessing you don’t.”

”What?! What! No!” Woozi yelled. He shrieked then sat up, his head still throbbing. “I,” he took a deep breath. “I love you.”

”Yeah?” Seongchul replied. Woozi could visualize a huge smile on his lovers’ face.

”Yes,” Woozi let out a deep breath. “I love you, Seongchul.”

“I love you too, Woozi.”

“Yeah?”

”So much.”

Woozi couldn’t help but smile.

Meanwhile, Yoongi sat down in his seat for class. The professor walked in a moment later and begun class.

“Just so you know, those who have signed up for the trip, we will be departing from here at 5:30. If you haven’t spoken to me about going, today is your last day to do so.”

The class went by quickly. Yoongi gathered his materials then walked up to the professor, who was in the midst of erasing the whiteboard.

“Professor?”

The man turned and smiled, “Yes?”

”I’d like to sign up for the trip.”

The professor smiled and grabbed his bag from his desk. He handed Yoongi a piece of paper.

”Sign here.” The man pointed to an area to sign.

“Can I read it, the stuff above in the paragraph.”

”If you’d like to. It just says you agree to go, and take full responsibility of what occurs.”

“Of what occurs?”

The professor nodded. “Of what occurs.” A smile grew on his face as Yoongi signed his name.
