Chapter Twenty Nine: Of Graduations, Dates and Loves
My Bias Texted MeEverything was quiet in Donghae's apartment as you broke down into another fit of tears while the owner of the apartment was sat on his knees in front of you, silently staring at you. As he gestured to reach for you again, you tensed and bit back a scream which made him sigh and back off slightly.
You had been in the same position for around half an hour since Donghae returned to his apartment in a hurry.
...
"Wait, (Y/N)-ah, I can explain," Jinwoo cleared his throat, but you were done with listening to him. You couldn't hear anything except the thumping of your heart against your chest.
"It's... it's okay," you finally mumbled and shrugged, forcing a smile to your lips. Jinwoo stared at you in disbelief before he made a move towards you, but you backed away before he could touch you.
"Don't... don't touch me," you muttered and stepped away, making sure to stare at Jinwoo and Hyeongsuk coldly. "I hope that you won whatever bet you had, but I can't do this anymore. I have to be alone now, so I'll make my own way home."
"Wait (Y/N)-" you didn't stop to listen to what Jinwoo or Hyeongsuk, you weren't sure anymore, were saying and bolted out of the cafe before they could stop you. You weren't sure where you were running to, but as long as it got you away from the two males you once considered as friends.
The adrenaline that had been pumping in your veins only calmed down about half an hour later and you were overcome with nervousness. You were completely unaware of where the dark alleyway that you were currently hiding was and you were a little afraid of walking out to ask someone.
As you wiped off meaningless tears from your cheeks, you looked around to see any popular attraction from where you were sat, but you only saw traffic lights and a small burger place. You furiously rubbed your eyes when you felt more tears forming under your eyelids, but the first hiccup that came from your throat made you drop the facade.
You helplessly slumped to your side and your fists clenched against your head, tears pathetically pouring down your cheeks. Really, you didn't know how long you had been there, but you dozed off while shivering against the wooden fence.
"Ya, kid? Oh my god, what's this?" an unfamiliar and heavy voice suddenly broke you out of your slumber and you groaned painfully, turning your head up slightly to stare blankly at the newcomer.
Your eyes widened in surprise as the man suddenly dropped to his knees and reached out to touch your forehead, but you screamed before he could do anything else. He fell on his back since he was clearly startled and looked at you with wide eyes.
"Donghae..." you whispered, pressing your back against the fence and hoping with every fibre in your body that he would disappear. The man slowly backed away a few centimetres and nervously wrung his hands, "hey, kid, I don't know where you are right now. I won't touch you... I won't touch you, so give me your phone, okay? Give me your phone."
His words barely registered in your mind since you had buried your head in your knees, but you really wanted to be alone. If that meant you were going to get robbed, it was better than him being there right now.
You shrivelled up slightly after you had thrown your phone at him blankly, all the while muttering Donghae's name helplessly. You noticed the man reach for your phone, but you were too far gone to care.
You could feel a headache develop in your temples and dropped your head to the ground, but it only worsened as you listened to the man speak. You really wanted nothing more than to disappear at that moment.
"Donghae-ssi-"
"Burger point-"
"Araseo-"
"I'll wait-"
"Thank you-"
After that, there was complete silence in the alleway and you were glad that he had left you alone. You felt so drowsy and cold that you ended up falling asleep without another care.
When you awoke again, it was in a heated bed and surrounded by pillows. You noticed a tray of porridge on the nightstand as well as a small box of tablets and glass of water, but you were more concerned about where you were.
As your vision cleared, you saw that you were in Donghae's room again, but the dead silence was making you think things that you didn't want to remember. in a deep breath, you swung your legs over the edge of the bed and paused suddenly, noticing that you were no longer in your jeans and t-shirt but were instead in long pants which were folded to your ankles and a familiar grey hoodie which was folded to your wrists.
Hesitantly looking around the room once again, you stood up and shook your head to rid the dizziness before you walked to the door. When you entered the living room, there was only silence, but you could hear hushed voices coming from the kitchen and your ears perked in interest.
"I know Donghae hyung-"
"This is crazy-"
"How does he even know her-"
"Hyukkie oppa said they met-"
"Wonnie hyung too-"
"Go check on her-"
"Wait for Donghae hyung-"
"He'll go crazy-"
"She's sick-"
"Hae oppa will go-"
"Thirty minutes-"
"Can't cut short-"
You slowly manoeuvred your way to wear the voices were coming from and curiously looked into the kitchen, but froze when you saw who was inside. If you weren't mistaken, Donghae's brother, Yesung's brother, Sungmin's brother, Siwon's sister and Shindong's sister were sitting around the dining table and discussing something important.
When you looked at Donghwa's face, you suddenly remembered Kim Jinwoo and everything came hurling back at you which made you gasp and hold your chest, alerting the others of your arrival. They stared at you for a moment before they went frantic and started spewing orders, but you couldn't hear as you slid down on the floor.
"Call Donghae right now!"
That was when the screams started.
Not even twenty minutes after you had pressed yourself against a wall beside a sofa, the sound of a faint beeping passed your ears, but you didn't care in the slightest.
Your voice was hoarse from screaming and shouting at everyone to get away and leave you alone, but you felt everything quieten just as a hesitant hand was placed on your hand.
You froze at the contact and your eyes widened in surprise when you saw Donghae staring back at you while smiling warmly but his eyes were portraying only concern.
"Hi baby," he whispered softly and hesitantly his palm over your fingers. "I'm sorry I couldn't be here earlier. I had a schedule, so I sent my siblings who were free. You don't mind, right?"
You stared at him blankly for a few minutes, not willing to let yourself believe that his presence was real. Donghae then sighed quietly and the pad of his thumb across your knuckles, "hm, what happened, my fallen angel?"
You screamed.
"Hey, hey, it's me!" Donghae yelled as you pushed him away, but he only froze when you stared at him. You figured it was the result of the tears that streamed down your cheeks, "Donghae... Donghae... I'm disgraceful... I let... I'm a disgrace..."
"Shush (Y/N)-ah," Donghae reached his palm to you, but you flinched back at the raise of his fingers. He watched you for a few moments, flinching at your scream but he only observed silently.
You both stayed like that for a long time.
...
"Shh, it's okay... it's me, Donghae," he murmured again and held his arms wide across his front, a small smile on his lips. Your voice was hoarse from screaming and you were sure your eyes had dried up as you stared at him through blurry vision and then whimpered.
"Donghae... it's you..." you whispered quietly and sat on your knees,
