Where the Eagle Soars
Description
On a planet much like our own, the king of a highly technological race known as the Adamah forms a pact with the faeries of the neighboring dimension; they are the Sanritem. Suspiciously, as a new ruler was crowned amongst the faeries, the king of the Adamah died, leaving orphan his two children, Myungsoo and Myungeun. Taking advantage of the fact, the new faerie king, Oscuridaon, laid siege to the Adamah world.
Years after, all of the Adamah's pride and glory has been reduced to ashes, with advanced technology having been banned and eradicated. Oscuridaon rules with an iron grip and as insult to injury, forces Myungsoo, child of the former king who was adored by all, to become leader of his army and presses him with the charge to enslave all rebels. He takes up the charge only to keep his sister alive, who herself was chosen to be high priestess of the faerie deity, Bolar.
After discovering the prophecy of how their deity, Nesher, would one day save them, Myungeun pleads for Myungsoo to escape with her and form a rebellion against the despot. He refuses, concerned for her well-being and doubtful of their former deity. Stubborn, Myungeun begins to share her beliefs and hopes. Oscuridaon hears of it and proceeds to punish her. Myungsoo, tries to help her, but fails. She dies and now he is alone in the world.
Now he must accomplish what his sister began and end Oscuridaon's rule once and for all.
Foreword
For a while, I've been interested in writing fantasy. Thanks to Light and Darkness Fantasy Writing Contest I'm able to do so. I'm entering this contest there.
I selected "Dark Prompt" D2:
The king stumbled from his throne and fell to the floor of the empty chamber.
In addition, I have entered this entry into the 8th Year Contest hosted by Tigress.
I selected Prompt #70
I'll take my time writing this story, hoping it will turn out as good as I envision.
Lastly, this story is deeply influenced by Robert E. Howard's fantastical tales of that sullen, blue-eyed Cimmerian of immense strength, Conan. Many people attribute him as the originator and perfecter of the sword-and-sorcery genre (rightly so). Thus, I will endeavor to encapsulate a similar type of feel his work produced. I seek to emulate that style of his, but with the addition of my own flair.
Besides having Conan as an inspiration, there is also that portal to all things Barbarian, Masters of the Universe. I took the retro-future concept from that property.
This was my first real venture into fantasy writing. I wrote it based on the prompt given by a member of the site when I had a request shop opened. Check it out if you like, because, in the end, since I had like an urge to write a follow-up to it, I didn't, but this new story might relate to it when everything is said and done.
