She sighed inwardly. She lost count of how many times that specific question has been asked. She stopped counting ever since high school. "Nope. We're just friends," out came her automated reply.
She also predicted her new fellow student's reaction: disbelief.
"Eeeh?!" the girl exclaimed. "But you're always together and he takes you home! He freaking waited just for you at lunch!"
She smiled as her friend listed her observation of their interactions. "We're just really, really best friends. Bestest of best friends. That's all."
"Don't you ever feel something at least?" her friend continued. It seemed to be really hard for her to believe. And she wasn't the only one.
"Nope," she immediately replied. And it was true. To her, he was just her brother from another mother. "Have you seen how he is at home? Ugh. I'd never feel something for that guy."
Her friend sighed, crossing her arms. "You know...there's a thin line between friendship and love."
She shrugged. Thin line or no line, She has never (and will never) felt her heart flutter whenever she's with him.
They were just friends. And there's nothing else to it.
