Rubbing the sleep from your eyes, you stifled a yawn a bit; stretching your arms above your ahead before propping yourself upon your elbow. It took a moment for your eyes to adjust to the dim light weakly flooding the bedroom you shared with your spouse.
"Babe," you called out, eyes examining their silhouette. "What are you doing? Why are you awake right now?"
Y/B sat upon the bench located at the end of the bed. Bent over, their shoulders moved ever so slightly; no visible signs that they were even aware of your consciousness. Furrowing your brows, you leaned forward as you crawled over to the edge of the mattress.
It wasn't until you rested your body against their back, arms wrapping around their torso and your chin nuzzling into the crook of their neck, that they finally acknowledged your presence.
"I didn't know you were awake," they spoke softly, a mild smile forming upon their lips as they pecked your nose briefly.
Pressing your lips to their temple, you chuckled softly, "I can say the same about you. What are you doing?"
Holding their hands up, you squinted in confusion at the device balanced between their fingers. Leaning over their shoulder a bit more to catch a better glimpse, you blew air through your nose as a partial laugh.
"What is that?"
"Our child," Y/B deadpanned; absolutely no hesitation in their response whatsoever.
You froze in place.
Our —- child?
"W-what are you even talking about?"
Sighing a bit, your spouse rotated themselves on the bench to face you. Taking your hand in their's, they placed the small royal pink egg-shaped machine into your hand.
A single white, gold rimmed, heart-shaped rhinestone embellished the top of the device. The outer 'shell' was a whitish type of pink. An oval of gold, closer to the front, outlined the medium pink shaded 'deck' of the toy. Small curves and twists decorated the sides of the digital screen as shiny pink sticker-esque bows adorned the top and bottom panels of the display. A small white animal type of character donning a crown and, what appeared to be, a princess dress digitized the small screen.
"Y/B," you spoke slowly, "why in the name of Strawberry Chan do you have a freakin' Tamagotchi?"
Reeling back in shock at your words, your spouse grabbed the toy from your hands; clutching it to their chest.
"Don't talk like that in front of the baby!" They began the plastic egg with the utmost gentleness. "She can hear you."
Blinking, you stared at your significant other in minor disbelief at the display occurring before your eyes. You always knew Y/B was a little odd, but this particular scenario took the cake.
"It's not even rea-" you began to explain, but Y/B cut you off.
"Yah," they straightened their back out with a playful smile, "I'm only teasing you - kinda. I bought it because I thought it would be good practice."
Clear confusion spread across your face causing your wholesome lover to sigh in a tinge of desperation.
"One day," they began explaining, "we will have our own family. Obviously, you and I would be new parents, so I figured this Tamagotchi pet would prep us for when we decide to explore that route."
Heart fluttering, you felt your face heat up a bit. Y/B was always sweet, but you had never really heard them talk about starting a family with you prior to that moment. Sure, you two had already been married for a year and a half, so you expected that you'd both begin to build a family together eventually whether it be sooner or later. However, hearing the words escape their lips so surely made you feel warm and gooey on the inside; like a freshly baked cinnamon roll.
At the same time, however, their wor
