Countdown
I stare at the numbers on my wrist.
1d 7h 15m 34s
They showed up a few months ago.
I’m quite nervous actually. I’ve never had a boyfriend and I’m less than 48 hours I’ll meet my soulmate.
There’s so many what if’s that linger.
I want to distract myself. I need to do something other than sit on my couch and stare at my wrist.
I drag my feet as I slowly make my way to my bedroom. Sitting down at the vanity, I grab the brush and run it through my hair.
I wonder what he’ll look like
Or if he’ll like the way I look
…
I pull the dark locks of my hair over one shoulder as I look over every feature of my face. My round eyes and button nose suddenly make me nervous.
What is he doesn’t?
My attention is pulled from my reflection as a poster on the wall behind me falls to the floor.
“Oh no no no no”
I rush over to the poster and hold it gently in my hands. The gravity of the fall bent the paper.
Right over his face
“Jungkook”
I softly smile as I try to straighten out the crease.
If only it were you
I look around my room; various posters of different boy bands take up most of the walls.
My gaze falls into the mirror once more.
A scared young girl looks back.
What am I doing?
One by one I carefully take down every last poster. Laying them flat on my bed.
“Hey”
“Huh?” I turn around, startled.
“It’s just me, calm down” I watch my older sister nonchalantly saunter into my room.
“When’d you get here Violet?”
“Just now… why are you taking down your posters? You love them… especially bts!”
“I know” I plop down on my bed, next to the pile while my sister takes a spot on my rug
“But if you still like them, then-“
“This” I hold out my wrist for her to see.
She gasps and immediately scurries over to touch the counting numbers imprinted on my skin.
Her fingers lightly trace over it.
1d 6h 32m 15s
“One day?”
“One day” I echo
“So..” she looks up to me with wide eyes
“I meet him tomorrow… I’m so nervous” I feel a tear drop from my eyes.
“Oh my little minnow… don’t cry” she pulls me into her arms and runs her fingers through my hair. “There’s no need to be nervous… he’ll love you no matter what.”
“How do you know that?” I pull back to see her reassuring smile
“Because he’s your soulmate”
“I guess”
“Do you have any plans tomorrow?”
“Not really..”
“Hmm” she hooks her finger under my chin “I have an idea”
“Oh no”
She reaches into her back pocket and pulls out an envelope.
“I guess it's kinda torture now since you already have someone waiting but… here.”
I open the envelope and gasp
“BTS tickets?”
“Hey, you can't turn them down just because you have a man now” she chuckles and tucks a strand of hair behind my ear. “I spent too much money on them for you to do that.”
“Thank you, but-”
“Aht, you can’t turn them down~... Plus, I’ll be there right next to you.”
“So… how close are the seats?”
“They may just be front row~”
“WHAT? YOU’RE SERIOUS?”
“Woah Woah, not so loud. Let’s save that voice for the concert.”
“When is it?” All nerves of finding my soulmate fade as excitement fills my veins.
“Um, about that…”
“What?”
“It’s tomorrow..”
“Oh” Our gazes drop to my wrist once more
“Hey, when did it show up?”
“A few months ago… the 15th of September, I think.”
“Oh…. that’s when I bought the tickets.. Do you think-”
“My soulmate is a fanboy?”
“-oh yeah, I was totally gonna say that… Um I guess that does work-” She looks at my wrist again “since your time will be up when we’re at the concert.”
