It's Christmas [Oneshot]

Description

Genre: Christmas au / fluff

Characters: Wanna One x you

A/N: this is part of the Twelve Days of Christmas with Wanna One collab I'm doing over on tumblr. I decided I would post my pieces up here as oneshots as they don't link into the other stories my friends are creating.

Whilst this story features all members of Wanna One, I chose to write it from Jisung’s point of view as he is the leader. I also placed this in the same world as Anniversary (which I will be posting up sometime soon on here but you can find on my tumblr account under the same username).

Word count: 1231

Foreword

It was chaotic within the living room and as Jisung soaked in everything that was happening around him, he smiled. It was the kind of chaos he would gladly put up with. Most days in the Wanna One dorm life were hectic, with members coming and going with individual and group schedules. Even though he had been their leader for a year and a half now, he had to admit there was too much movement to keep up with at times. Sometimes he’d forget members, and others he’d be looking out for them when they had already gone on their own schedule for the day. It was exhausting leading and nurturing ten other humans, but today was different.

He watched as Daehwi took a wrapped gift back from Guanlin with a shake of his head and a pout on his lips as the youngest laughed at him loudly, and Jinyoung sighed heavily at their antics. Woojin and Jihoon were avidly playing games on their phones and yelling taunts at each other, their mouths moving almost as fast as their fingers were. Daniel was lazing on the sofa next to Seongwoo and Jaehwan who were both attempting to tell him the same story and Minhyun and Sungwoon were searching through the music playlist, fighting over what was appropriate music for their festivities.

It was Christmas day and whilst Jisung could see all the gifts under the tree and all the others stacked around it too, he felt like this scene itself was enough of a gift. He wanted to snapshot this moment into his brain forever, knowing that Christmas next year would be different. And although he was nostalgic for the time he had spent watching s grow and improve, Jisung couldn’t think of a better and more natural way to spend this Christmas together. He walked over to the radio and exclaimed he would be DJ for the evening, clicking on a playlist to end the debate the two oldest members were having. He interjected in the conversation to make sure the right information was being shared and then told the gamers that dinner was going to be served up shortly and it would be device free. Finally, he went over to the youngest members and teased them all for attempting to get into the presents before it was time to, slinging an arm over Jinyoung’s broad shoulders and grinned at how orderly things now seemed to be.

Until you emerged from the kitchen. You looked frazzled. “Uh, I need help!”

“Did you burn something?” Sungwoon crooned and you shook your head, your eyes darting towards Jisung’s. He stopped playing with the maknaes and moved over to your side, smiling when Minhyun joined you both.

“So uh, we kind of have a problem.”

Minhyun frowned. “On a scale of-”

“As in all the way to the end of the scale,” you cut in, your eyes widen with panic. You dragged both members with you into the kitchen and you all stood there staring at the oven. Jisung frowned. “What’s the problem, Y/N?”

“You know how I asked you earlier to turn on the oven for the turkey to go on for its final cook?” you mentioned and he nodded, shooting Minhyun a small smile. He had been happy that you had asked him to help prepare your meal tonight. He wasn’t your first pick in the kitchen often as he knew you and Minhyun quite often liked to do things together in here. So it had meant something to him to lead Christmas party further. It was then that his smile faltered as he gazed at the dials on the oven, a gasp leaving his mouth in realisation.

He had forgotten to turn it on for you.

Minhyun groaned at finding the same answer. “Hyung!”

“It’s not just his fault, I was so busy preparing dessert that I didn’t even focus on the fact that it wasn’t on.”

“Or that you couldn’t smell it cooking either,” the logical member added and you both gave Minhyun a look. He shrugged and then chewed at his lip in thought.

Meanwhile, Jisung began to panic like you were. “What do we do?! How long will it need to cook?”

“Two hours at least.”

Jisung whined. “We can’t wait that long. Do we have anything else we can cook up?”

“We could order in food,” you suggested and Jisung shook his head rapidly.

“That’s not Christmassy at all!”

“I doubt anyone will care with a hot meal in front of them and then presents afterwards,” Minhyun rationalised and you nodded again, holding up your phone with an expectant gaze.

Forty minutes later the meal was well underway with assorted takeouts filling up any space on the table, and their plates were piled high. It wasn’t exactly the feast he had imagined when it came to Christmas this year, but Jisung was simply reminded again of this journey so far. Nothing had ever gone to plan and improvising was now the group’s forte. When things didn’t work, they always figured how to get to the next step. He was immensely thankful for all your help that you had given them along the way, and knew if it wasn’t for you helping him with all the members, it would have been a lot harder than it had been. It only dawned on Jisung then that he had wanted this Christmas to be just as good for you as much as for the other members. He wanted you to know how much he appreciated you and without much thought, he got up and retrieved a present, coming over to your side and holding it out for you to take.

You glanced up at him and smiled. “I thought presents were after dinner?”

“I want you to have this one right now.”

“Well, alright!” You wiped your hands clean and then smiled at the sounds of anticipation coming from several members of the group before you opened the box. Inside laid the framed certificate all the members had decided to gift you this year. You trembled as you read out your name and then stopped to read out the other titles they had given you. Some were playful and others related to just how hard you had worked. By the time you reached the final word of friend, you were crying and so were a few other members too.

“It’s really hard to think this Christmas is our last,” Guanlin said in a small voice then and the air in the room grew heavy and sombre.

“It’s not over for us, it never will be,” Seongwoo finally stated and with nods around the table, the volume of conversation returned. You got up and hugged Jisung tightly, burying into him deeply.

“This was the best Christmas ever,” you told him and he chuckled.

“Even though we have a half-cooked turkey still in the oven?”

You grinned up at him and nodded. “At least we know what we’re having for dinner tomorrow.”

“Just let me be in charge of turning it on, okay?” Minhyun mentioned and you laughed before announcing it was present time and going over to the tree with Sungwoon.

Jisung watched on again, much like he had done all day long before joining in the fun, knowing that today was the best gift he’d received all year.
