Chapter One
I am tired of my life as the monotonous routine continues every single day: waking up in the morning, taking a quick shower to put all laziness and sleepiness away, making a simple sandwich and cup of coffee for breakfast, going to the office or often going to the airport to fulfill appointments in another side of the world, working, meeting, coordinating, lobbying with clients or business friends while having lunch and sometimes dinner, back home, taking a long warm bath, going back to sleep, and those same routines are back on the next day.
I feel the void that could not be filled after living with the same sequences for almost ten years. Living with all expensive things, all facilities that are provided, and people with high social standards cannot guarantee my richness within me. I might be famous for being opulent, though I am not a type of person who will use that money to indulge myself in the clubs, booze or hostess. I prefer to stay at my luxurious apartment, watching business and stock news, reading books, or working with all documents that need to be evaluated, though I am sure those documents and news are not something that can make me relax at all.
Although, those things happened before the apartment in the next building was lent. I have two twin tower apartment buildings that have fifty level each including the lobby, complete with all facilities that every people needed including swimming pool, badminton and basketball court, and biggest mall with all brands available from the fifth floor below. The first tower only has several meters away from the second tower. The highest level on the second tower is where currently I’m staying, and the highest level on the first tower is usually being rented daily or short-term for maximum 6 months rent. The highest floor is used for one big full-furnished luxurious apartment room using only the best and most expensive items that have been selected only from the finest reviewed companies from all around the world. Though with that quality, there are prices to be paid. The occupant for the top floor apartment can use every single facilities that are available including spa, restaurant, horse riding, golf yard, and exclusively get a maid and cleaning service every day, where other tenants are required to pay extra fees for using those facilities.
Almost all sides of the top floor are clear glass, so the room tenants can clearly see the landscape below and around the apartment complex. If they stand on the left side they will see the golf yard, swimming pool, and the horse-riding track. From the living room area though, they could see my living room area too, and since my apartment building is only a few meters away from the apartment, they could see me and I could see them, though not so clearly, but we can see what is happening on each other apartment. So, I always close my room’s curtain if there is a resident who occupies the next apartment building.
The room was often lent by famous artists, company guests, or State special guests, and ever since these twin towers were build for the past ten years, there are no guest who lease the room for less than three days and more than one month.
So, I could not hide my surprise yesterday morning when my secretary gave me a report and announcement that the apartment will be rented for three months. Moreover, the person has paid it in full without any credits. At first I thought that the tenant might be an old man or old couple who want to re-do their honeymoon or simply to enjoy their old days, or maybe an old man or woman who work for the government or State’s guest that has work for three months. I asked for a quick profile, but what I got was only a simple passport photocopy as his identity card, and surprisingly the person is younger by two years than me. The tenant will arrive at seven tonight, and I decided that I will stalk him from my room. One day to breach privacy wouldn’t hurt, right?
That night, I opened my closed blind expecting that I would be able to see the person, and thankfully, yes, I could see him. He got a petite body and slicks raven hair, a chubby cheek, and tapered chin, though I couldn’t see his face clearly due to the distance.
I was pretty sure that he could see me, because I saw him smile and waved his hand towards me. Now that he saw me, I could slightly see that his eyes have crescent moon shapes when he smiles, and his smile looks so soothing. I smiled and waved back to him, showed my friendly business like smile. I saw him went away to open several boxes and made a mess of his living room. Supposed he must wanted to organize his things, so I planned to close my shade and resume things I was going to do. However, I saw him moved out a big empty whiteboard. He began writing and once he was done, he showed it to me through the window glass: Hi, have you stayed there for a long time?
Of course he didn’t know that I have been living in this apartment for half of my life. I signaled him to wait for a while using my hands. I went to my workroom and rolled a big whiteboard out of the room, then I wrote a reply: Yes.
He erased his writing on his board, and start writing again: I’m Jongwoon, nice to see you!
Choi Siwon, I replied.
I saw him thinking as if he tried to recall something important, then he looked at me incredulously before he hurriedly erase his board and start writing in lightning speed: THE Choi Siwon?!?!!! OMGGGGG!!!!! I'm sorry, I didn’t recognize you! T^T
I was astonished that he couldn’t recognize me: You don’t know me?
I’m the greatest Choi Siwon in the whole world, who has an established well-known car and smartphone manufacturer corporation. He then scribbled: I know Choi Siwon, but because of the distance, I couldn’t see you that clearly.
I laughed at my stupidity, but then I continued my laugh when I saw another of his question: So are you the owner of this apartment?
I was sure that he could see how I laughed so hard as I put my hand on my sides, and I saw another of his writing: I’m sorry if I’m too presumptuous. Good night! Then I saw him got flustered and close his curtain due to an embarrassment. I kept laughing, looking amusedly at the closed curtain. I think my life is not so dull anymore.
