A/N: Hello everyone! I'm not sure if anyone will even read this fanfic, but this is my very first one so I hope you enjoy- but please tell me any errors or anything wrong because I've never ever tried to do this before. Anyways, this story is a fanfic for Noragami by Adachitoka, it will be Yatori so if you don't like it, I suggest you don't read it. ^_^ Thanks so much for checking this out! <3 (By the way, this is going to be an AU where Yato dies and was reborn a bit before Hiyori was born, but he still has Yukine as his regalia and he still has the same friends, just he hasn't met Hiyori quite yet.)

-Introduction-

One midsummer evening, a little girl with long brown hair and dark magenta eyes was swinging happily on a swing in the nearby park by a lake. Her name was Hiyori, Hiyori Iki, and she had been dropped off at the park with her friends Ami and Yama. Their parents' had already picked them up- and Hiyori told them to leave her since she would wait for her own mother to arrive. It was a very cautious neighborhood, so she knew she'd be absolutely safe. She was humming "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" as she saw the first star of the night and she continued to swing happily while the sun was peacefully setting. Everything was perfect, crickets chirping softly, the delicate leaves rustling in the wind, and the lake sparkling with beauty as the blood-colored sun's dying rays barely touched the water. As more stars began to peek out, Hiyori began to worry if her mother had forgotten her there, so she stood up nervously, hoping she'd come soon, and twirled her hair with her fingers. It had already been an hour since Ami and Yama had left. Hiyori smelled something... It smelled really soothing. She spun around to face the lake and suddenly she saw another child staring at the lake water too. He was hugging his knees tightly and he looked a bit sad from behind. "Hello there!" Hiyori ran to him, happy to not be alone. He turned to face her, his eyes were a beautiful blue and they told Hiyori that he was definitely sad. "You can... You can see me..?" He muttered, almost to himself. Hiyori held out her hand to get him off of the ground, he looked as if he were 6 years old like Hiyori was, so she knew she could talk to him. "Of course, silly! Why wouldn't I be able to? Anyways, my name is Hiyori! What's yours?" She smiled and her magenta eyes peacefully glistened as the sun was practically gone. Fireflies had surrounded them, and the crickets' chirps had grown louder. "H-Hiyori? I'm... My name is Yato." He put his hand in hers and stood up calmly. "Hi Yato, it's nice to meet you! Are you all by yourself too?" The young boy, Yato, nodded and looked down at the ground. "What's the matter?" Hiyori asked with concern. "I think I was... Reincarnated. I still remember everything from before and I've just now figured it out, that that's what happened." Hiyori tilted her head curiously to one side, "Re, in... Cartinated..?"

"Reincarnated, it means to be reborn. Well, because, you see, I'm a god and I think I died a few years ago... No one has told me anything about it, they all treat me like the age I am now, but I still remember everything from the past, I remember my friends, I remember my Shinki..." Yato sighed and started walking off into the woods, Hiyori hadn't heard enough, so she followed. "Slow down! First of all, you're a god?? You're wearing a tracksuit and you are a kid still! Even if you were reincarnated, how come I've never heard of you? I know of the gods Ebisu, Bishamonten, Tenjin, Izanami-" Yato quit walking as soon as she said 'you're a god?'. He folded his arms and looked rather shocked. "Of course I'm a god! I'm the Yato god!"

"I've never heard of any god called Yato! Prove to me that you're a god then! And there's no way you could possibly be rein...re...Reincartinated! You better take me to your friends quickly and prove it!" Yato looked hurt, he 'hmmphed' and closed his eyes as if that was an insult. A god, sure, sure... "Fine then! Come with me, I'll prove it!" He smiled a very wide smile and devilishly took off expecting Hiyori to follow. She did, with a sigh, however before she halted and called to Yato to wait. "Yato! What about my parents! They'll be here to pick me up!" He stopped in his path but beckoned her over to him, meeting her halfway. "Uh... Well... I guess you can wait if you want to. Should I just go?" Hiyori blushed a little and shook her head. "You see... I... I don't like being alone in the dark... Could you wait with me at least?" Yato sighed and nodded briefly. "I guess I'll wait with you until they come, but would you like to meet my friends later?" He looked rather hopeful and Hiyori only agreed to meet them because she didn't want to let him down. "Hiyori?"

"Hm?"

"Are we... Friends?" Yato looked at her, his blue eyes almost glowing like a nightlight in the dark. She stared at him for a little bit and then smiled happily, "I suppose so!" Yato sighed with relief she thought, or maybe he was just tired. "You won't forget me?" Hiyori looked puzzled and put her arms behind her back. "No, why would I? I couldn't possibly forget someone like you who claims that they're a god... Oh, by the way, what's a "Shinki"?" Yato looked up at the sky and took a step towards her, "Simply, a Shinki is a spirit that a god will use as a weapon. Without a Shinki, gods are worthless when it comes to fighting. I don't know how else to explain it." Hiyori nods, a bit confused by the subject, but she brushes it off. The sun was completely gone, and Hiyori's parents still weren't there. "Yato?" He stares back at her, waiting for her to speak- "Can you walk with me home?" She muttered gingerly and looked away, slightly blushing. "Sure, but... I don't know where you live." Hiyori folded her arms to her chest tightly and started walking in the direction to her house, embarrassed. She looked back at Yato, who had been just watching her with cat-like eyes. "What's that??" A long pink tail was sticking out from the bottom of her back, "I have a tail now??"

"Hiyori?"

"What?"

"I think that's yours?" Yato pointed to a lifeless body spread out on the grass, Hiyori was stunned. "Did I die?? Am I dreaming?? Are you a god???" Yato lifted her body gently and brought it over to a panicky Hiyori. "Nah, you're still alive, your soul just slipped!" He smiled again and put her body beside her. "My SOUL slipped? How do I fix that? What do I do??" She put her foot on her stomach, and it went all the way in, to the grass below. She leaped back, startled, and held her hands in position for a defense move she had seen on TV on a wrestling match- all while screaming. Yato started laughing hysterically and he fell backwards onto the ground, frustrating Hiyori. "What's so funny? How do I fix this!?" Yato gasped for air and tried to tell her between breaths that it couldn't be fixed. Hiyori sighed in aggravation and picked up her body, trying to crawl into it somehow. Every attempt for the next 10 minutes failed miserably. Yato was still on the ground, but he had calmed down ever so slightly. He was wiping tears from his eyes and even got hiccups. Hiyori rolled her eyes but lifted her body and tried with all her might to get it somewhere safe other than the ground. Yato finally got up, still hiccuping, and Hiyori carefully dragged her body to lay on a bench. "I'm not dead, you're sure?" Yato hiccuped behind her and pointed to her stomach area. "Yes- you're still- breathing, see?" He was right, her side was softly rising and falling, and her breath was softly coming out of her slightly parted mouth. Yato gasped and hiccuped at the same time. "While you're here waiting for your parents to pick you up, you can come with me! You're a spirit now, so most people won't notice you, and your parents will only think that you're asleep!" Hiyori put her fist up to her chin... "I guess you're right, but can we please, please hurry so I can try to get back before they come?" Yato nodded eagerly and grabbed her hand, jumping into the sky and onto poles and wires, as light as a bird. Hiyori was starting to think that he was a god, either that or this was only a fantasy in her dreams.

---

Yato and Hiyori had arrived at a shrine just a few minutes later, and Yato still held onto her hand on the way into it. A small lady with short, pink, and fairly curly hair sat with her back facing Yato and Hiyori, and next to her was a tall man with dark hair. Across from them, looking a little disappointed, was a boy who looked to be in his early teens, he had light blonde hair and bright amber eyes, almost as bright as Yato's. The older kid looked up and his expression brightened. "Yato! Thank goodness you're back- oh- who's this?" He looked from Yato to Hiyori. "Yukine! This is my Shinki or regalia Yukine, I'm his father!"

"..No you're not, Yato."

"Of course I am! I was just reincarnated so I only seem younger than you now! I'm so proud of your success Yukine!" Yukine sighed and sat down in front of them properly. "Care to introduce this girl?" The tall man from behind them said. The pink-haired girl looked fairly young and she had pretty violet eyes. She was curious in their conversation at the moment, but it looked as if she would blurt out something any minute now. "This is Hiyori! She's a friend I met-" The lady with pink hair sprung forward at the two, "Yati's got a girlfriend!!!~" She squeezed the both of them tightly and Hiyori coughed, informing the lady to let go. "My name is Kofuku!~ It's so nice to meet you! And Yati finally found a girl he likes~heehee!~" Yato huffed. "No, I never said that! I said that she's a friend. And don't be rough to her or she might hate you!" Hiyori blushed at the remarks and giggled. She wanted to ask the lady a question that she hopefully knew the answer to- "Oh, misses Kofuku?" Kofuku squealed at Hiyori's little voice. "Is Yato really a god?" Kofuku leaned in closer to them. "Yep! Yati is a god, like me! I'm Binbougami!~" Hiyori nearly fainted- "B-Bingougami...? The god of poverty?"

"Awh~ don't be afraid! I won't bite you~ just call me Kofuku, and- Hiyori was it?" Hiyori blushed and nodded, not sure whether to feel honored or afraid of the goddess. "Mind if I call you Hiyorin?~" Hiyori shook her head furiously and gasped as she hugged her again. "You look a lot different from what I expected- ah! I'm sorry! I hope that wasn't-" Kofuku squealed and shook her head. "No~ that's okay! I'm so glad to have company~ Oh! Hiyorin, this is Daikoku, he is my Shinki! He really isn't frightening once you get to know him.~" Daikoku looked tough, almost mad. "My name is Daikoku, it's nice to see that Yato wasn't alone this whole time." Kofuku has appeared behind Hiyori and was playing with her tail now- Hiyori gasped. "Oh, sorry, Hiyorin~ Are you an Ayakashi? Or a human..?" Hiyori stuttered and clutched her tail for dear life. "I- I'm not sure what an Ayakashi is but I am a human- I left m-my body at the park... Yato said my soul s-slipped..." Hiyori looked down, embarrassed. Kofuku giggled at ruffled Hiyori's hair slightly. She hugged Yato and Hiyori both, each on separate sides of her. Yukine looked over at Hiyori again. "Hi, Hiyori! It's nice to meet you! If you're a human... Can you really see us?" Hiyori was a bit confused by this whole "humans can't see us" thing, but... If her friend was among these thinkers, she'd just have to go with it. "I-I can see all of you, and I don't know why you'd say I couldn't but, I definitely can.." Kofuku let Hiyori go but started to braid her hair. Hiyori let her finish braiding, but she was a bit scared of her right now, as a goddess of poverty and all. Hiyori was standing, so she bowed to all of them, and then to Kofuku when she finished Hiyori's braid. "It's very nice to meet you all! Um! I should get home now." Daikoku spoke up, in a bit of a kinder tone than before. "You do know where your home is from here?" Hiyori thought for a minute. "I think I can manage, but could one of you help me?" Kofuku jumped forward. "Please, oh please, let me go! Yati can come along too!~" Daikoku sighed. "You want to bring poverty among this girl's family?" Kofuku shook her head furiously. "I promise I won't interfere, and Yati will be there too~" Yukine stood up next to Daikoku and Kofuku grabbed Hiyori's and Yato's hands and skipped out the front door, leaving Yukine and Daikoku both looking concerned. "Kofuku... Hiyori barely got to even talk with Daikoku and Yukine..." Kofuku giggled at Yato. "Maybe next time she'll be able to converse more with them~ I'm just so happy to see that you have someone as your friend that's your age!~" Yato sighed, probably a sigh for a collection of reasons. "Should we... Stop by the park to see if my body is still there?" Hiyori inquired. Kofuku stopped skipping and changed directions instead. "Yeah I suppose we should~" Yato looked over at Hiyori and mouthed some things to her like: "are you okay?" and "what do you think?" Hiyori answered all of his questions back silently and continued to walk with Kofuku.

The trio soon arrived at the park again and Hiyori's and Yato's hands were let go of. She bent down to Hiyori and squeezed her, seeing that her parents had just pulled up, scurrying over worriedly to her unconscious body. Hiyori bowed to them and waved them goodbye before Yato quickly stopped her right when she was turning away. "If you still remember me tomorrow, do you want to come back to Kofuku's shrine to meet me again?" He blushed and looked away. "If you want to." He held out a card with directions to get to Kofuku's shrine. Hiyori blushed back shyly. She pulled out a pencil from her pocket and wrote Yato's name on the back of the card. "I promise I won't forget you! And of course I'll see you again, after all, we are friends now, right?" Hiyori smiled happily and Yato did too. "I know it was a bit of an awkward start, but I hope we can become even closer someday," Yato muttered quietly so only Hiyori could hear. Her face flushed and she hugged him goodbye. Even if she had met him an hour or two ago, she felt as if she had known him for centuries, but so did Yato. She knew she could trust him, and she could trust that they would become good friends, hopefully with Yukine, Daikoku, and maybe even Kofuku as well. She waved at both of them and skipped over to her body, being picked up by her mother and father. She started to feel tired as a spirit, so she easily fell into her body and into sleep as well. Yato and Kofuku both watched as they drove off, and once they did Kofuku nudged Yato and started teasing him all the way back to her shrine.

Hiyori woke up when her parents placed her in her bed. "We are so very sorry, Hiyori, dear." Her father rubbed her head. "Work kept us so late because of that surgery, so we couldn't come in time, I feel so horrible! Was everything alright? You didn't talk to strangers, right? Ah, and you weren't hurt??" Her mother inquired worriedly. Hiyori yawned sleepily and shook her head. "I'm okay mom! I wasn't hurt and everything was fine. I did meet a boy who was my age, and I met his family, but he was so nice, he's my friend now! He was there when we left, you saw him right?" Hiyori smiled remembering the nice people that she had met. Hiyori's parents looked a little worried. "Hiyori, were they all nice to you? Were they strange? Don't do that again, though!" Hiyori curled her arms around her legs and yawned again. "No, they were really nice!" She didn't mention anything about them being gods and spirits, and she decided to say no more about seeing them since Yato and his family had said that most humans couldn't see them. Her parents both sighed of worry and they kissed her forehead. "If you see him again, introduce us to him, we'd like to meet him, I'm sure." Hiyori nodded. "He gave me directions to his... Er, home, so that we could visit him, maybe tomorrow?" Hiyori's mother looked to her husband and smiled. "Maybe we will, but we're definitely coming." Hiyori's parents bid her a good night's sleep, but it was only then that she realized that Kofuku was a god of poverty, so she would have to be careful, and that her parents might not see or remember Yato and the others, but she'd try to make them remember. Hiyori hugged the card that Yato gave her close to her chest as she fell asleep, all of the stars shining bright outside of her window, and the moon kissing the leaves in the trees. Yato was happy to had made a new friend, and so was Hiyori, they would definetly never forget about eachother, and they would stay friends forever, they just knew it. It almost felt like they had known each other before, only this time, they would become even closer.
