At a time of both turbulent rebellion, and classic industrialization, the late 1920s of the Korean Peninsula hold the key to a horrific tragedy...and also the subject for one young man’s history dissertation. What started as an unwilling trip to help his parents clear out his grandmother’s house, leads to the discovery of a long buried family secret, of love, lust, hatred, murder...but above all, music.

CHOSUN ILBO July 23, 1929

The beautiful Opera house built by the Japanese has been gaining wide support and admiration. However we at the Choson Ilbo can’t help but suspect it’s creation to be a ploy to occupy the masses. Regardless of intent, an increasing amount of audiences have been flocking to the grand theatre. Head lining performers such as Horushi Yuki and Yokohama Hiro grace the stage, as well as an ensemble of our own local talents.

The currently manager of the opera house is rumoured to be returning to Japan for medical treatment, and so it seems as if the Opera house will be sold. Who will be filling his spot is unknown as of yet, but what can be noticed is that the Park family will continue their patronage of the Opera, and supporting its works...

> prompt

#30: They say love is blind, and it makes people do strange things. Write about a character who is blinded by love or who does strange or dangerous things for the object of his or her desire.

> author's note

This fic is inspired by one of my favourite novels, Le Fantôme de l'Opéra by Gaston Leroux, as well as some of my favourite works of Shakespeare. I love history as well as tragic romance so this will sure be one hell of a ride! Foul is Fair is also entered in the Penicillium Writing Contest, so check that out for other great stories and if your are interested in entering as well :)
