The next morning, Ari and Jimin waited at the Rose Garden cafe anxiously as rain dripped down the windows. They were both drinking hot chocolate to keep warm after getting drenched it the pummeling rain, which had now slowed down but it was still pouring. Paris in the Rain by Lauv was playing in the background, greatly adding to the ambiance of the cafe. This would have been highly enjoyable, but Ari and Jimin had other things to think about.
Due to safety hazards, classes today had been canceled. However, students filled the coffee shop and the garden, enjoying the rain. Ari loved the rain but right now all she could think about was how to say what they were planning to say.
Ari and Jimin weren't sure if Rena was going to come. In addition to that, they were nervous about the discussion they would have if Rena did show up.
A few minutes later, a ding from the cafe door caused them to look in that direction. The past few times this had happened were false alarms, but this time it was indeed Rena. She was wearing a pastel pink coat and holding a transparent umbrella that had raindrops trickling off it. She spotted them a few seconds later and made her way across the cafe to their table, her face expressionless. Ari nervously adjusted the scarf around her neck.
"Hey," Rena said as she sat down in the empty chair.
"Do you want to grab a drink?", asked Ari.
Rena said, "No thanks, I'm not planning on staying long." Both her face and voice were quite expressionless. Ari and Jimin's spirits sunk, this was already off to a bad start, but what had they even expected?
Jimin started, "Rena we know we hurt you and we're deeply sorry but, I think it was only a matter of time before this happened. And it's not only because of Ari. I'm sorry but I don't like you that way. There's someone for you out there and he must be a great guy to deserve someone like you. I'm sorry it couldn't be me."
Rena opened to speak but closed it almost immediately, avoiding eye contact with either of them.
Ari continued, "Rena, I'm sorry. I knew how you felt and I kissed Jimin anyway, but I didn't do it to hurt you or spite you. It just happened. I'm really sorry." Ari had begun to tear up. Rena sighed, her head in her hands. After a while, she breathily spoke, "I don't know what you want me to say."
"Look, you guys were both uncommitted when it happened and I can't tell you both to do anything. I hope you guys can be happy together. I really do, but I need some time to stay away," Rena finished. Ari and Jimin both nodded and uttered words of understanding. The atmosphere was still tense. "I guess I better get going now," Rena said as she picked up her umbrella and got up to leave.
"Classes are canceled today by the way! They sent an email." Ari said.
"Yeah, I saw that while walking. I'm not going to class," Rena responded.
"Well, I mean I get that you might not want to, but you can stay with us till the rain slows down a bit more," Jimin offered.
"Actually, Yumi and Jungkook are coming to pick me up for lunch, so I should really go." With those words, Rena left.
"Well, that felt horrible," Ari groaned as she took a sip of her hot chocolate. "Yeah, but it had to be done," said Jimin.
"Did you know Jungkook and Yumi was going to go out with Rena?" Ari asked.
"No, he isn't really talking to me right now," Jimin sighed. "Yumi has a car?", asked Jimin.
"Apparently," said Ari. "Can't believe that us wanting to date could ever be this exhausting," she added.
"Hey, let's forget about all this drama for a while. The weather is amazing, you love the rain. Let's go for a walk.", Jimin said as he placed his hand on top of Ari's with his signature feel-good eye smile.
Ari smiled. "Yeah, why not?"
Ari and Jimin grabbed their hot chocolates and umbrellas and left the cafe. As Ari began to open up her umbrella, Jimin opened his and held it out so that it sheltered them both. "I got you," he said. Ari thanked him.
They walked until they reached a gazebo in the garden. They threw away their empty hot chocolate cups in a recycling bin nearby. They stood in front of the gazebo and Ari stopped walking. "What's wrong," Jimin asked. "Nothing, just... you know, this would be a really good spot for a kiss. One that doesn't get interrupted this time," Ari smirked. There was no one around the gazebo anymore, most people had started to leave to go to lunch off-campus. "I couldn't agree more," smiled Jimin. Jimin leaned his head down and placed the hand not holding the umbrella at Ari's waist. Ari's hands were around his neck, as they kissed. This kiss was much more welcoming and less unsure as to their first one. Jimin let go of the umbrella and picked up Ari, both hands around her waist now. Ari laughed, "Put me down"
"What if I don't want to?" smiled Jimin.
"Well, what if I'm asking you t
