Chapter 60
Letting Go (The Stray Kids Collection: Story #1)The room is dull, too dark for Athena to see anything. She wanders forward slowly, careful to not bump into anything that may be there.
"Hello? Is anybody here?"
Her voice echoes around her. Clearly, nobody was there. As she moves forward, or whatever direction she believes she's going, a light appears. It flickers at first and then stays in full, illuminating the once dark room.
Athena squints. Her eyes open and close twice before she's adjusted to the change. In the the center of the room, there is a chair with a person sitting on it. They turn to face her and Athena gasps.
"Hyunjin?"
He doesn't respond but smiles sadly at the girl, beckoning her over.
She runs toward him, tears streaking her face. As she runs, Hyunjin just stays where he is but she never seems to get closer to him.
"Athena, are you coming? Why aren't you here?" The boy cried out.
"I'm trying! I really am! Please, don't leave. I'll get to you."
Hyunjin is gone though, just as the words escape her lips. Ironically, that's when she reaches the chair. Heavily winded, Athena rests upon the chair. She's tired and sad and doesn't know what to do. Hyunjin was right in front if her, just in her reach and she couldn't get to him.
The light shuts out once again and the girl is left alone. Athena closes her eyes, her breath stuttering. She was so close.
"Were you though? Close enough I mean?"
Athena is quick to open her eyes again to see that she's in a court room now. Across from her is Hana, who is smirking with her arms crossed.
"Did you say that?"
Hana avoids the question entirely. "You killed him Athena so you don't deserve to see him. Plain and simple."
"I didn't kill him!" Athena exclaims
"Hm, but you did. Every one agrees with me."
Hyunjin's mother suddenly appears with a scowl set on her face.
"Mrs. Hwang, I really didn't-"
"I don't plan to listen to a murderer, especially the one who killed my son. You are a killer. You're guilty."
And then, more and more voices appeared, chanting those words. Killer, guilty, your fault. Their voices rise until Athena feels like her eardrums are bleeding.
"Just stop. Please, stop!"
Silence greets Athena, sweat drips down her face as she opens her eyes and sits up in her bed. A nightmare. She hadn't experienced one in awhile, but it was just as haunting as the first.
Athena sighs. She checks the clock only to see that it's 1 AM. Despite it being the late hours, Athena is sure she won't be able to fall asleep again. Maybe, I'll get a glass of water.
She's sudden aware of how dry is and coughs lightly. Yeah, water is definitely needed. So, Athena carefully peels off her blankets and finds her way towards the stairs as she tries to bring herself back.
Reaching the main floor, Athena is startled when she hears a noise. The doorbell? Who is out at this time of night? Despite the worry, Athena approaches the door and opens it.
"Felix?"
