Rowoon was always a rambunctious child, even as an infant. She went through her fair share of tantrums and both Seulgi and Irene probably pulled more all-nighters during her first year than they had ever collectively before, but for the most part, she was a good kid.

She was the spitting image of both her parents. She had Irene’s beautiful doe eyes, wide and always sparkling with curiosity for the world, and she had Seulgi’s cute sloped nose. She even had Seulgi’s heart shaped nostrils and their friends loved to joke about how poor Rowoon inherited both of her parents’ big, dopey ears much to the couple’s chagrin.

Irene couldn’t count the times she found their daughter in some weird position in the deepest pockets of their home. She seemed to get her streak of adventure from Seulgi which led to quite a few keepsake photos of the toddler stuck between the banisters of the staircase with a big innocent grin because she was chasing the cat who’d just slipped through the wooden poles.

It was a blessing and a curse that their daughter was so similar to them. Irene swore that Rowoon always liked her vegetables until the day Seulgi openly refused to eat the steamed carrots Irene slaved over by popping the frozen bag in the microwave.

(It was with small satisfaction when Irene privately scolded her girlfriend for not setting a good example and the following night at dinner, both Seulgi and Rowoon ate two servings of broccoli.)

But as much as Rowoon openly declared how much she wanted to be like Seulgi Mama when she grows up, it was clear that so much of her was from Irene Umma.

Rowoon was kind and innocent by nature but secretly quite cunning for a three year old. She used logic to win over arguments and it always left Seulgi slack jawed and dumbfounded.

“Mama, can we get a kitten?”

Seulgi tousled her daughter’s hair affectionately. “Sorry Woonie. Your mama is allergic. We can’t be in the same house.”

“You can sleep outside.”

They ultimately compromised and got a cat. Seulgi could never say no to pretty girls.

The worst part though, was that Rowoon also seemed to inherit Irene’s incredible luck
