“Lee Arran?”

Arran turned at the mention of her name.

“It is you,” the man approached her on the street, outside her manicurist shop.

“I’m sorry…do I know you?” she tried to place him with little success.

“Park Minjun.” He smiled again, this time sheepishly. “I don’t blame you for forgetting me. It wasn’t exactly a pleasant memory.”

Arran was still confused.

“I was a friend of Joo Sejin. From high school.  You once came to a party at Sejin ssi’s house.”

Suddenly it all fell into place. Arran remembered now. The time she’d lied to her family and snuck out to a party at that douchebag Joo Sejin’s house. He’d tried to her. “Are you still friends with that guy?” Arran demanded.

“Aniyo.” Minjun shook his head vehemently, “I could never, not after what he tried to do to you…”

Arran’s hands tightened around her bag, “It wasn’t your fault.” She looked around. Her car was waiting for her. The driver had stepped out and watched the situation. Ready to step in if need be.

“I could have done more to stop them. I…really…I thought you were the most beautiful girl…” he blushed at his open confession.

“Thank you,” Arran glanced at her watch, “I’m sorry but I have to go.” She backed away and toward the car.

Park Minjun stepped forward, “Wait.” Arran stopped, “It might be weird, but would you like to get coffee sometime?” he reached into his suit pocket and handed her a business card, “I’d love to catch up.”

“I have a boyfriend” she blurted out and backed away again. “I have to go.” She turned and dashed into the waiting car.

With shaking hands, she lifted her phone and recorded the Voice Note, “We’re going out tonight. I’ll meet you where we left off the last time.”

The street was busy, loud and messy. Youth sang and clung to each other as they stumbled from one party spot to the next. Men threw up in alleyways, dogs sniffed at dumpsters. Arran stood in the shadows of the narrow street. She watched and listened. The building behind her was a well-known spot for drugs and using underage girls. Tired of waiting, she climbed the fire exit stairwell and entered a side door. The hallway was filled with smoke and men all over women.

Arran kept her face lowered and hidden under the cap and moved quickly through the corridors, listening, trying to find someone who needed help. Two flights up, she stopped at a closed door. There was thump-thump of music vibrating through the walls. Arran rested against the wall and pulled out the little packet from her jeans pocket. She lifted the white silky powder with her baby finger and lifted it to her nose and sniffed it in. Her head rolled back, she moaned with pleasure as the drug started to spread through her. Her blood felt like it pulsed along with the music. Pushing against her veins – she turned and kicked open the door.
