where Jungwoo is an aspiring baker who works at a quaint bakery at the corner of the street and Yukhei is a second-year Creative Writing major who is barely getting through

Foreword

It’s a quiet, peaceful morning in Jungwoo’s small apartment. Almost too quiet. He wakes up with the sound of passers-by down the street in front of his apartment window and the soft sound of keys jangling right outside his front door. The sound of footsteps rushing in the morning, silent thoughts of being late or not being able to catch the bus on time go through people’s mind, Jungwoo needs to get used to that.

He just moved out from his parents’ home, right after getting his degree in Baking and Pastry Arts, promising them that he’d be okay living alone because he has a job now, that his teacher gave a good word for him to one of their closest associate and that they don’t have to worry much. Although Jungwoo was quite scared to move into the big city, he didn’t show it. Instead, he packed his bags and bid his parents farewell as they sent him off at the train station.

Now it’s Monday, 5:41AM and here he is, one eye open, arm dangling, body obviously too long to fit into his small bed, he stares at the clock, and back to the ceiling. I need to get up.

He pushes himself off the bed, barely making it up because he’s been up all night rearranging his stuff from the dozen of boxes he’s brought along. There are books ranging from theories to recipes, tips and tricks he’s gathered from the three years of getting his degree. All of that hard work, nights spent memorizing definitions and steps, sleepless nights where he would down 5 mugs of coffee just to study for a test.

Jungwoo shakes of the drowsiness and comes to his senses.

He gets ready, downs a mug of coffee and in no time, he’s already out of his door, locking it and starting his day.

Wong Yukhei is a college student, majoring in Creative Writing and struggling to maintain his on-the-lifeline GPA.

It’s 7:09AM and , he’s late.

, , and .

He just woke up and he has his final exam at 7:30AM for a stupid business module god knows for what.

He rushes to brush his teeth, wash his face and get a decent outfit together. Fourteen minutes, I’ve got fourteen minutes.

By 7:16AM, he’s running down the stairs of his 20-floor apartment, his being on the 12th. The elevator is under maintenance and Yukhei curses to himself, what did he do so wrong to deserve this today.

He takes a peek at his phone and realizes the eight miscalls from his best friend, Mark. Along with panic texts of “are you awake” “did u study for the exam” “where are u” “do u even KNOW there’s an exam today” “gdi yukhei”

Frantically typing in a reply, i’m omw don’t worry, i think i can make it

Yukhei huffs when he reaches the last flight of stairs. Eleven minutes.

His long limbs take quick big strides towards the bus stop and thank god there is a bus coming on time.

He scans his card and gets on the bus, preferring to sit down this time around because fuh that was a full set of workout with those flights of stairs. He chooses a seat a few row from the back and slides his back down on it, exhaling in exhaustion.

And his day just started. Great.
