"I'm a junior."

"I'm just 19, Minari."

"How are you a junior?"

"I'm kind of smart. Accelerated, scholarship, you know, all that stuff."

"You're smart?"

"Don't look so surprised. Hot people can be smart too."

"Smart, hot, and arrogant. What else could a girl ask for?"

"I knew it, you think I'm hot!"

"It was sarcasm Chaeyoung. They don't teach that in f-boy class?"

"Well, I'm a girl. And you can curse around me, you know. You can say boy. We're in college."

"I don't like cursing."

"Man, you're adorable."

"Right. Because I'm hot, not adorable."

“Is it on your to-do list to annoy me on every opportunity you get?”

“Technically, you are my to-do list.”

“You wish.”

“Nothin’ wrong with dreaming. They say, there are no limitations to how good we can become or how high we can rise except the limits we put on ourselves so I’m dreaming real high.”

“Never thought you’re the type to say things like that. But did you mean dreaming real short? Get it? ‘Cause you’re short?”

“Wow, that’s low-blow, Minari.”

“Keep dreaming, Chaeyoung.”

“Well, they also do say, I’m an overachiever anyway. Speaking of, are you planning on joining a varsity or sorority?”

“I’m not really the sorority type, but I’m definitely trying out for the cheerleading varsity.”

“Cool, I’m a distance runner in the track and field varsity. Maybe you could cheer us sometime.”

“Depends, are you good?”

“We’ve won the state championships for 9 years in a row, nationals for 3. We’re kind of good.”

“Impressive.”

“We’d be such a power couple.”

“Couple? I thought you were going for a one-night thing?”

“I mean, if you’re down with that, I definitely won’t complain.”

“I don’t even know why I’m still talking to you.”

“Because you find me amusing.”

“You pronounced ‘annoying’ wrong.”

“Is it weird that I seriously find it so cute when you’re like that?”

“Yes. Yes, it is. Why is everyone staring at us?”

“Cause you’re with me. I’m kind of a big deal, you know.”

“You? I highly doubt that.”

“It’s the reputation, Minari.”

“What’s your reputation? The girl who likes to sleep with freshmen?”

“Hey, I’d go for upperclassmen too.”

“I don’t even know what to say to that.”

“You could say ‘yes’ to a date with me?”

“Oh, look, we’ve reached my class. Bye, Chaeyoung.”

“Can I at least get your number?”

“Why would I give you my number?”

“I―um, because…”

“That corny sweet stuff won’t work on me.”

“I’m just being honest, Minari.”

“Mhm. I’ll go ahead, all right? What’s your next class?”

“Majors, back to the other side of the building.”

“I thought you were heading this way?”

“I wanted to talk to you. Plus, it’s um, exercise. Have fun in literature; Mrs. Park is incredible, and she gives good marks if you sit in front.”
