Son Chaeyoung

The fresh smell of grass filled chaeyoung’s nose as she along with Tzuyu walked around an area Sana had gladly led them to.

Chaeyoung’s head was buzzing with questions.

Questions about the thing Sana wanted to talk about, Tzuyu’s relationship with the said girl and what this place was called.

The place they were at was filled with trees, fresh air and weird looking equipments.

There were quite a few people so Chaeyoung assumed that the place was a usual hangout most people go to during breaks.

She looked around to see various groups of people, some groups had the same color of auras while some of them were mixed.

Some couples were even lounging under the trees and cuddling on the grass.

Chaeyoung wondered if she will ever be like that to her own Mate. She felt really drawn and comfortable with Mina.

She was confused at how Mina felt for her because when they were together Chaeyoung could feel a wall surrounding her mate. As if her Mate was purposefully keeping her distance, she wanted her Mate to feel comfortable around her.

She frowned at the thought of her mate keeping her distance from people.

She knew that Mina was in pain, negative emotions apparent when they were around each other. Chaeyoung wanted to save her mate from the pain that she was experiencing like how Mina’s presence had saved her.

She wanted to make Mina feel that she was there for her and that she could trust her.

Chaeyoung wanted to show her Mate that she could be comfortable with her and that she would be there whenever she was in need but she didn’t know how to. She didn’t know how to ease Mina’s anxiety and distrust.

Chaeyoung decided to just ask help from Sana when the girl finds a place to sit down.

Finally after minutes of walking, Sana had finally stopped and plopped down a spot near a glassy looking lake.

Chaeyoung fiddled with her fingers as she nervously prepared what to say to ask Sana while the girl was busy opening the food she bought for them.

“Spit it out, Chaeng. I don’t bite” Sana smiled at her and Chaeyoung blinked her eyes at the endearment the girl just called her.

“You don’t mind if I call you Chaeng right?” Sana looked at her with puppy dog eyes and she just couldn’t help but to nod and give the girl permission.

“So, uhhmm. It’s about-“ She started.

“Mina” Sana finished and her eyes widened.

“I want to know her s-“

“Story.” Sana interrupted again.

“Yeah, because she-“

“Is distant and doesn’t feel comfortable with you yet even though you two are mates.” Sana finished again and chaeyoung was left with agape.

Tzuyu just chuckled as she stuffed herself with the bread Sana bought.

“How’d you know, can you read minds???” Chaeyoung exclaimed quietly.

“No. I just know Mina very well and I was expecting her to be this way, even towards her mate.” She explained as she ate her Hawaiian pizza.

“Oh.” Chaeyoung responded sadly.

Sana offered Tzuyu some of her pizza in which the girl responded with a disgusted face and an “ew no”.

Sana turned back to the sulking Chaeyoung after hitting Tzuyu on the arm for hating on her favorite flavor.

“But don’t worry. Sooner or later she’ll warm up to you, you’re her mate after all. But I have warn you, hurt her and you’re dead,”

Sana suddenly turned so serious that Chaeyoung gulped audibly.

“I won’t” She stated and she meant it.

She would never hurt Mina and no one will because Chaeyoung will protect her mate no matter what.

“Good cause I would have roasted you. Now here taking some Hawaiian because little miss picky over here doesn’t like it.” Sana gave her a piece and Tzuyu just stuck her tongue out at the woman.

Tzuyu was actually always mature. But Chaeyoung guessed that Sana and her really were close with each other.

“No one should put pineapples on pizza, it ruins the taste.” Tzuyu said.

“Not it doesn’t” Sana responded.

“Yes it does. You shouldn’t mix sweet things with pizza I doesn’t match” She fired back.

“Uhm no. It actually helps the taste and it blends really well.” Sana crossed her arms.

“What do you say Chaeyoung? They’re gross right?” Tzuyu looked at her friend hoping that she’ll back her up.

Unfortunately, Chaeyoung only responded by taking a huge bite of her Hawaiian.

Sana grinned and Tzuyu just huffed and continued eating her bread.

“Anyway, about what I was going talk to you about” Sana’s tone turned serious again and Tzuyu regained her stoic expression.

“Yeah what is it?”

“Did something happen after I left for the Academy? Any changes? Or like when you turned of age?” Sana asked and Chaeyoung could feel Tzuyu suddenly tense at the question.

“Well, uhm… I got my specialty.” Tzuyu answered.

Chaeyoung couldn’t help but notice how Tzuyu said specialty in singular.

She must not want Sana to know then… Chaeyoung thought.

“What is it?”

“Telekinesis” Tzuyu answered

Oh so that’s what she was going to tell people…

Sana however remained frowning as she pondered what Tzuyu has told her.

“That’s it?” She probed but Tzuyu’s face didn’t falter.

“Yes.” She answered and Sana frowned even more.

She didn’t look convinced.

“Okay, so here’s the problem. You know about my powers right?” Tzuyu just nodded and Chaeyoung looked curious.

“Well, in my time here at the Academy I was able to explore and figure out the components of my powers and how it worked.” Chaeyoung’s ears perked.

She wondered how much she could explore her specialty and how much she could practice and strengthen her element.

Especially her Lightning.

Her Lightning Element wasn’t really a separate Element itself, it was part of her Fire one.

Well more like an extension.

Chaeyoung wondered if other people who had a strong connection to their Element could control Lightning too. Because if there were people like that then she would need them to teach her how to control it.

“I figured out that I couldn’t infatuate just anyone and that I could control it. I could control how much of it I could release and who I want to affect. I found out that I could infatuate Elementals who have already met their mates if I try hard enough but light dosages don’t really work. I also found out that I couldn’t control Marked Mates and that the stronger a person is the harder they are to control.” Sana explained but Chaeyoung’s mind kept on repeating a word she said.

Marked Mates.

When Mates meet each other they would usually feel a huge connection and bond that ties their soul together. But at one point in their relationship they would have to ‘Mark’ their Mate.

It’s when one Elemental uses their power to imprint a mark on their Mate.

The process was still blurry to Chaeyoung since she hadn’t experience it yet.

But all she knows is that when the two Mates are marked their bond strengthens and their aura sort of shines brighter. A hint of your Mate’s aura would also blend in with your own aura to let other people know that you were claimed.

Chaeyoung didn’t really have a good memory regarding marks.

Because she saw her dad in pain because of it.

She once asked her dad why he always held his neck when he was sober but he always says that it hurt a little bit.

But when Chaeyoung wasn’t looking she knew that her dad grimaced.

Her dad drank from the pain of losing his Mate. Chaeyoung always believed that her dad was only in pain emotionally. But when she went up his room to see bottles surrounding her dad’s body and him crouching on the floor while holding his neck and whimpering she knew.

She knew that losing your mate didn’t only hurt you emotionally.

It also hurt you mentally.

She was pulled from her memories when Sana suddenly continued.

“So that’s why I was wondering why I couldn’t infatuate you. Because before I left, I could. But now for some reason I can’t and I think it has something to do with your aura.” Chaeyoung tensed as Sana investigated her case.

“W-What do you mean?” Tzuyu stuttered a little but quickly regained her composure.

“I mean, your aura is sort of different than it used to be. It’s sort of duller and for me it used to scream ‘Mate!’ but now it just says ‘Not yours’ you get what I mean?” Chaeyoung could see Tzuyu gulp quietly.

Chaeyoung knew why Tzuyu’s aura seemed duller to Sana and it was because of her specialty.

But even she could agree that there was something with the girl’s aura.

She felt it too when Tzuyu didn’t use her specialty and showed her, her true aura. It wasn’t Tzuyu’s specialty that made her aura appear different, it was something else. Like something was protecting the girl and telling people to keep away.

“I don’t know. Maybe my turning of age changed it?” Tzuyu shrugged nonchalantly as she said that.

“No. I mean it feels like you’ve already been cl-“ Sana’s sentence was cut off by Chaeyoung’s loud whimper.

All Chaeyoung could feel was pain.

It hurt her in the inside and out and it felt like her heart was being ripped out of her chest.

“Hey Chaeng you okay?” Sana asked but all Chaeyoung could respond was another whimper.

She released a shaky breath as she felt a wave of emotions not her own crash into her mind.

“M…Mate” She uttered as she suddenly stood up and ran.

Mate.

Mate.

I need to see Mate.

Chaeyoung could feel her Mates loneliness and pain through the bond as she made her legs go faster.

She tracked down the source of her Mates scent and aura.

The bond they shared wasn’t that strong yet but it was there. And it helped Chaeyoung find her Mate.

Her Mate.

Her Mate who was kneeling on the floor with tears streaming down her beautiful face and short breaths were taken.

“Mina!!!” Chaeyoung called out but her Mate didn’t respond as she continued to hyperventilate.

Chaeyoung was panicking because she didn’t know what to do.

To hell with it! Chaeyoung thought as she jumped in to dive into her Mates shivering body.

She embraces Mina tight and tried to convey her thoughts.

I’m here. I’m here.

“I’m here” Chaeyoung whispered as she felt her Mate’s body
