"Call it magic, call it true.
I call it magic when I'm with you."
-Coldplay, "Magic"

It's one of those days when her mind was as blank as the new sheet of paper on the typewriter before her desk. Being a writer was something she had only dreamt of, and after publishing her third book, she saw no reason why her brain seemed to have been drained of words, the plot she had been planning for months and the ability to write.

The scenes played in her mind, the characters vivid and seemingly alive while her fingers itched to translate her thoughts into words, and she talked about it in full details as if it was already written, well, at least when she wasn't in front of the typewriter. Sitting there for almost six hours now, anybody would think she would have written a sentence at least. However, not a single word was written on the page. Not one. The paper was as clean as the moment it was created.

The silence that aded the room was suddenly interrupted by the sound of one of the keys being pressed down to type a single letter on the paper, followed by the lurching sound of the platen moving a single space to the left. It left a resounding ring in the sun-drenched room, lingering in the total silence that followed. A pair of eyes flicked to the source of the sound from across the room. Within a few seconds, the chair behind the desk was pushed backwards with a grating sound against the mahogany floor as its occupant rose to her feet, saying, " it," under her breath.

The other person in the room, who had, until that moment, been a silent witness to her sitting there and doing basically nothing, closed the book he was reading with a snap, now more alert as opposed to pretending not to exist earlier. He, too, stood up from where he had been sitting against the headboard of the bed, immediately abandoning his book on top of the nightstand.

"Don't," she attempted to hinder him from what was already clear in his eyes. Placing a hand over her forehead, she hung her head low.

"What is wrong, love?" he asked, his voice deep and gentle yet exuding authority as he strode towards her desk, rounding the furniture so he was standing right behind her. It wasn't the time to give in to her wishes, he thought as much. He sat her down, placing both hands on her shoulders to placate her while he eyed the paper on the typewriter which was otherwise blank apart from the letter she typed, F, to be precise, her precise thoughts almost coming alive into an actual word. Almost.

He knelt on the side of the leather chair so that his head was leveled to hers and started to plant ephemeral kisses on her shoulder. "Talk to me."

"Not now, Wonwoo." She screwed her eyes shut. "I'm not good company."

He placed a kiss on her neck and smiled. "It is when you say such things that I feel the urgent need to be around you." He took possession of her hand and held it against his cheek. "Come on, sweetheart, what is it?"

With glistening eyes, she looked at him with all the dread that she felt inside her, drawn across her face. "I cannot write."

"Maybe it's just not a good time today. You don't have to force yourself. You'll come around," he told her in reassurance.

She shook her head wildly. "No," the tears started to fall from her eyes. "No, that's not it at all. I'm scared, Wonwoo."

Alarm drew itself across his features. He has never seen her that way before and it broke his heart into a million pieces. "What are you scared of?" he asked gently.

"I'll never surpass the trilogy I have written, and I'd never be able to sell a single book. I'll be known for being one of those authors who sold one set of books with a single story. I'll never be able to surpass that, and then..." she sobbed, "...and then I will never write anything as good. I'm no different than a one-hit wonder! Oh my god!" she told him all at once, near hysterics as she repeatedly mopped her tears away with the sleeves of her sweater.

Wonwoo wanted to laugh, but he knew better so he just nodded. She took her writing very seriously, and it was why she became a best-selling author. She had a phenomenal way about her words which was uniquely hers, and it was those permutations of words that made him love her even more.

He took her in his arms then, coaxing her to stand up. "Come, I have something to show you."

She sniffed and looked up at him in childlike innocence. She pouted a bit and said, "What is it?" as if she didn't have a bigger problem just seconds ago.

He led her to the carpeted floor between the bed and and the desk and he sat down, removing his shoes and socks. At that, she remained standing and crossed her arms. She made a face at him. "Wonwoo, I'm having a serious crisis here. I'm not in the mood for this."

Wonwoo chuckled. "That's not where I'm going, you ert." He pulled on her hand. "Come on. Don't you trust me?"

"With my life, but..." She hesitated for a bit and he arched a brow at her, prompting her to sit down. "Fine, but no funny business, Mr. Jeon."

He leaned over and claimed her lips with his in a brief kiss, pulling away with a hypnotic look about his handsome face.

"I just s-said..."

"No funny business. As you wish," he supplied for her. "I need you to relax." He then moved towards her feet and likewise removed her shoes. She tried to protest but he gave her a look. "No buts, Missy."

Her lower lip jutted out a bit at that but she didn't say a thing until he was sitting beside her again.

"Lie down," he instructed.

"Wonwoo!"

"Just do it."

"Fine."

She lied down and watched him do the same, holding her hand. "Now what?" She smiled a bit, feeling funny to be lying down in the middle of the afternoon on the floor with him.

"Close your eyes."

"Okay." She did as she was told and she felt him shift nearer towards her until she could feel his breath against her ear.

"Where are you?" he asked her softly.

"In the master's bedroom with you," she answered, but then he said, "No, you're not. Try better." She could feel him smiling as he talked.

"Okay." She furrowed her brows, keeping her eyes closed. "We're near water."

"That's a start. Yes, we're by blue shores on fine white sand. What do you see?"

"The sun is high up in the sky and there are tree branches above. A boat is moored by the shore but it's long forgotten." She smiled at the thought, envisioning it in her mind. "And there's a pile of coconuts nearby. We drank to our fill."

"Uh-huh, and the water is touching our feet from where we lay." As if on impulse, she wiggled her feet. "I hear wildbirds calling above the rushing waves. Do you?"

She nodded. "I do. Seagulls!"

"That huge one is holding a fish on its beak."

"Bet it could gulp it down whole."

"Yeah."

They laughed together, their hands tightening around each other as she spoke. "We're trapped in this desert island, aren't we?" she asked.

"Yes. For days now."

"Do you think someone's looking for us?"

"No," he whispered into her ear. "Do you mind?"

"No." The next moment, all the things they've said to each other was all she could feel and hear, even the salty sea air aded her senses, and soon, she was looking above from where she lay, seeing wide fronds of coconut leaves, green slashes breaking up the clear, blue sky.

"This is our island," she declared. "Just ours, the two of us." She opened her eyes and found him lying next to her on the sandy shore, his eyes closed.  Who cares if no one's looking for us?"

"You're right."

She smiled at that as she propped herself up to have a closer look at his face, taking in every line, plane and angle, etching it clearly in her head. "I pretty much don't give a damn. As long as we're together, it's a hell lot of magic."

He smiled at that as if he, too, felt the change in scenery. "Are those words for your new novel?"

She chuckled. "No. I'm saying it to you." She placed a hand on the side of his face. "Wonwoo, open your eyes."

And he did. The next thing she knew, she was kissing him with everything she's got and he was returning it with as much fervor that it made her toes curl. She held onto his shoulders and twined her fingers into his hair, their mouths melding into one until they were breathing the same air.

"I love you," he told her as he pulled back, running his fingers on the side of her neck. "You have nothing to be afraid of as long as I am here. You will write great things that will make this world a better place to live in."

"Well, I can't imagine a world better than this." She gazed at him, torn between crying and smiling until she couldn't frown again. "You're sweet as ever." She cupped his face and placed another kiss on his nose. "What would I do without you?"

"Write?" Wonwoo offered jokingly, looking at her through the waves of his ebony hair that fell over his eyes.

"I guess, I will."

And so, for the rest of the afternoon, they were trapped in a desert island, lying under the cool shade of a tree with their fingers intertwined, eyes trained to the canopy of leaves while the sea foams rush against their feet and the tangy wind caressed their skins. All in their head, but every second felt real. They created a realm, just the two of them, and it was magic.
