Foreword
“Fall in love… with her?” He chuckles, the disbelief echoing throughout the chamber. “An Aandiel? The future Queen of Aandia? I could never.”
“It has been said that Aandiel women have a particular beauty to Faenraehl men, the tales of the past tell us that they can easily become an addiction. All I ask is that you be careful. For hundreds of years, this has been uncharted territory. You may convince yourself it’s a game of logistics, that you’re entirely in control, but you are playing a very dangerous game here, young master.”
Taemin rolls his eyes, as if fabricated ‘tales of the past’ were about to deter him, if he were to believe them, he'd have to believe that the very first Faenraehl came off an Aandiel himself. It was blasphemy. “It’s easier to hurt someone once you know all their weaknesses, the information I have, the things she’s done with me…” he laughs darkly. “The knowledge of any of that, trust me when I say it will be enough to taint her public’s opinion of her forevermore. If I release all I have on her, she’d be beyond redemption. That’s exactly what we need.”
His butler hesitates, before taking a seat. This was serving to be a longer conversation than he’d expected. “She is their only option.”
Taemin nods in agreement, as if that’s his main line of reasoning. “Exactly.”
“They say she will be married in the fall. They have their eye on an Aandiel suitor--”
“They have their eye on an Aandiel suitor every Sunday,” Taemin snorts, languidly placing his arms against the back of his head, as he leans further into his pillows, nonchalant. “None of them ever pass their rigid selection process.”
His butler purses his lips. “From word of mouth, this one, he’s different.” There’s a slight pause as his butler collects his thoughts, hesitation clear. “Whatever it is you’re planning, it seems you must act sooner, rather than later.”
