SeungWan now sat on a bench facing the wide sea. The choppy waves. The cooling wind which brings across the salty scent of the sea. He looks as the waves push against one another. The waves dying on the sand. The pain he felt in the back of his head seems to be brought away by the waves. Joohyun had left for a business trip the 3 days ago. SeungWan thought that it was a perfect chance for him to grasp. He can take this chance to disappear from Joohyun’s life. He will still leave behind his perfect memories in her mind, just that it will not be perfect as it seems. He knew that there will be people that will take good care of her in his place. Especially his ex-schoolmate, her ex-classmate and current colleague, Park Bogum.

Bogum had a one-sided love with Joohyun since they first met. But, when SeungWan walked into her life casually and fell in love, Bogum notice their gaze and her change. He realizes how Joohyun will tend to smile more and show much more emotions and expressions he never gets to see. Realizes how playful she would get. Realizes that the reasons behind her actions were only for that one person.

He knew he would never have the chance to propose his love to her. He loves Joohyun and places her happiness before his, therefore, he chose to remain quiet. Yet, he was always there for Joohyun. Even when the things that Joohyun want to do were not for him, he will still smile at her. SeungWan only knew about his one-sided crush when the two met in their company party. Bogum got drunk and blurted it all out.  SeungWan was shocked at first, but her eyes turn crescent softly. SeungWan declared a one-on-one on him, and the rule was; ‘No matter who wins or who loses, they will still stay by her side. Protecting her happiness…’

“I lost in the end, Bogum… I hope you will treat her well…” SeungWan murmured to himself with a bitter smile. As he stood up from the bench, he felt a familiar light vibration in his pocket. It was a customize vibration only for Joohyun. Any notification related to her be it a post on her social media or a message from her will be informed by the vibration. He whipped out the phone from his back pocket and tap on the notification;

Let’s visit the café again, shall we?

Upon reading the message, his vision blurred. But it wasn’t due to the tumour. Rather, it was something within his eyes…

He wants to reply her. He wants to do it so badly. But every time he completed the message, he found himself unable to press the send button. Whenever he records a message, he will cancel it in the end. Eventually, he still chose to record his last message to her. But it wasn’t in the messenger app, rather it was in the recorder app.

“I’m sorry, Hyun…”

 “I’m sorry…”

“I hope in the next life, I will meet you again…”

“By then I will make sure this promise be kept…”

“And fulfilled…”

As he said every line, recording them on his phone. Warm tears rolled down his eyes. Every drop splatter on his phone.<
