Accused

Description

Lim Hee Chan, the sharpest investigator in town, is assigned to a seemingly open-and-shut murder case.  All evidence seems to point clearly to the charming Lee Taemin.  In any other case, Hee Chan wouldn't bother with the details of the murder and would try catching the suspect as quickly as possible.  But something about this case isn't as clear as she thought it would be.  The evidence is laid clear as day in front of her, but there's something clouding her vision, something - or someone - skewing her near-perfect judgement.

Can she close this case without calling the wrong suspect?  Or will she have accusations on her own back?

"The evidence never lies, only people do."

A/N: I'm back!  Sort of...  I never thought that juggling my first year of university with a story I have yet to publish, another story that I'm revising for the third time, and another one that I'm probably never going back to would be this difficult.  Add Wattpad and writer's block into the mix, and BOOM! you've got a struggling teenager who has so many ideas yet doesn't have the motivation or energy to write any of them.  Which is something I had hoped to fix by the time Spring Break rolled around, but I've wasted it completely and now I'm rushing to make at least some progress in the last 2 days of break before I return to another month of death.  Being a Science major already guys, especially since the entire Bio department in my school is out to get all of us.

My motivation was suddenly renewed when I got a comment on my last Taemin oneshot, 거짓말/Lie, which is (holy crap) almost 5 years old(?!). This commenter requested another Taemin oneshot from me, and since I was looking for an excuse to possibly regain my writing spirit, I figured, why not?  I'll never turn down a request as long as I still have thoughts in my brain.

So, this oneshot/twoshot (we'll see what happens as I write this, even though I want it to be short, I can't stop myself) was requested by and is dedicated to the lovely _haneulee.  Thank you so much for your request and I hope you (and all you readers) enjoy it!  I promise this story has a happy ending, because long-time followers of mine know that I'm not afraid to cut a few hearts open with my sad endings.  This will be my first time writing a crime fic, so I hope you understand that although once upon a time I loved watching crime kdramas, I'm not experienced in writing them.

Be sure to read the short foreword below to give you guys a little taste of the action, and stay tuned for the next update!

UPDATE 01/28/19

So... I'm sorry it took so long for any updates on this story, but better late than never right, heh...  I know I mentioned that this was going to be at most a two-shot, but my writer's brain decided that I needed to flesh out the story a little more, so this story ended up being 5 chapters instead.  And me being me, I usually write the entire fic out before publishing it in on a schedule, so I just finished this story after a very long 11 months (I'm dying on the inside, I am really so sorry...).  This entire year I had the same Bio professor for both semesters and I ended up having no time or energy to write, so after I finished my finals and my traveling during Winter Break, I banged the rest of this story out in about 2 weeks (my semester literally starts again tomorrow heh..), so I do hope you enjoy it!  I will be publishing the first chapter today before you guys get another one on Wednesday, and then another on Friday or some other time during the weekend, and so on, so please wait for it eagerly!

Also I know that there are some people out there who are fans of Shinee, but not of BTS, so I do hope that it's okay for me to use them as cameos in this story.  And if you have a very strong hatred for BTS, please don't bash me or my story.  I worked very hard to bring this forward and rewriting it to take them out will take more time, so please bear with it or go read something else.

Foreword

“Don't be a stranger now.”

The man in his mid 20s bows fully at the waist to the ajumma, his smile as broad as the length between his shoulders.  “I'll definitely be back soon,” he chides lightly, taking the heavy grocery bags in his arms.  “I have a full house to feed.”

The old woman can't resist the handsome man’s charming smile and returns the favor.  “Aigoo, what a responsible boy!  They must be so lucky to have you!”

The man laughs sheepishly.  “I'm lucky to have them, too.  Thank you again!”

With a final bow, the man leaves the market, groceries in hand to make a big steaming pot of budae jigae once he gets home.  He has 6 other mouths to feed, the thought making a tender smile spread across his face.  Although he's the oldest of his friends - and therefore the one who holds the most responsibility in the group - he doesn't mind being the caretaker at all.  If anything, it fills him with purpose being able to take care of his younger friends.

The brunet shivers against the cold winter night.  It's about 6:30 and the sky is already dark. He shifts the grocery bags in his hands to take his glove out of one of his pockets and slips it on.  He shifts the bags to his other hand to take the other glove out of his pocket.

Suddenly, a hand covers his mouth, and before he even has the chance to scream, he feels a sharp slice across his neck, instantly falling unconscious.

The man crumbles under his own weight, eyes rolling to the back of his head as life bleeds out of his neck profusely.  The attacker lowers the body to the ground quickly, his blonde hair peeking out from under his hood as he backs away into the shadows of a nearby alleyway, an enigma undetected by the cold night.

The assaulted man lays on the ground in a fit of coughs, gurgles, and gasps for breath as his body violently shakes and his fingers twitch, only to fall completely still with a final spurt of blood.
