My life was perfect.

I had a job I loved, a home I paid for myself, and girlfriend who loved me. I had enough extra money to be able to afford nice things like a cell phone plan and a decent car. I even had enough time away from work to maintain my outside friendships. Occasionally, Soomi and I would get into little quarrels here and there, but we were both dedicated to working things out before they ever had the chance to escalate. I prided myself in my ability to remain cool-headed, even in stressful situations. As a result of that ability to remain calm, along with my innate need to excel in anything I did, I was awarded the prestigious title of “Dr. Jeon Jungkook” after being the youngest of my cohort to graduate medical school.

I lived my life with the assumption that I had chosen my path, and would stick to it until I drew my last breath.

So, when the Crazies began to yell and scream about the end of the world, I didn’t believe them. No one did. They were a nuisance: a spectacle. I didn’t even register their colorful words as I walked by them in the streets. The Crazies would wave their arms and stamp their feet, shouting impending doom at everyone who passed them, but no one listened.

Of course, when they first started to show up in my hometown, people paid attention. How could they not? The Crazies had been all over the news for the past year and everyone wanted to get their chance to see them in action. And who doesn't like a good end-of-the-world conspiracy theory? Even I enjoyed hearing about those every so often. But once the novelty of the famous Crazies, or The Tellers, as they preferred to be called wore off, everyone including myself went back to the same old daily lives we were familiar with. Why wouldn’t we? Life was perfect.

Until, one day, I realized the Crazies – no, The Tellers – were right

*Takes a deeeeep breath*
