Open Writing Club (Writing Week!)

Please Subscribe to read further chapters

Description

A weekly writing event open for anyone to join in the efforts of helping each other write more and write better. Each week there will be a prompt/image/song/etc. that everyone can use as inspiration for their short story. At the end of the week, everyone's story will be listed and we can read each other's fics and give each other feedback and receive feedback from others.

Foreword

READ THE FOLLOWING BEFORE COMMENTING. IT WILL ANSWER 99% OF QUESTIONS YOU COULD HAVE.

Guidelines/FAQ :

1. Entries should be completed one-shots around 1000-5000 words.

Story chapters are okay only if you are entering your chapters into the club in order starting from chapter one. That way readers can follow along with the story and not just be thrown in at a random chapter. So you can enter chapter one one week, chapter two the next, etc. If you get bored of entering/writing that story, you can enter the next week with a new/different story. Stories that are less than 1000 words or more than 5000 words will be accepted. But it's best to showcase a completed story that way people can fully take it in and give complete feedback and not only give partial feedback because there is still more story to come.

2. You can write any pairing, genre, rating, etc.

A good story, fanfic or not, shouldn't require a reader having super in-depth knowledge about the group to enjoy the story. Your writing should shape the characters well and your description should give readers a basic understanding of what the character looks like.

3. The story you enter should be inspired by/include that week's prompt

That's the common denominator of this that adds another fun element. Seeing how different people write their story based from the same image/au/etc. shows that people can take one thing and transform it into their own thing with their own style is always cool to see. Even if its loosely included in your story somehow, that's fine as well.

4. Don't feel intimidated or that your writing skill isn't good enough

Everyone at everything when they first start. So if you at writing, it's not the end of the world. The whole point of this is to exercise our writing skills and help each other grow. Even if your English isn't perfect or your grammar or you feel your story plot isn't good, writing something that isn't perfect is better than writing nothing at all. Because then you can identify your flaws and work to improve them.

5.  Try to read & comment on as many other people's stories as you can.

I'll be adding a chapter that gives tips on how to leave good/useful feedback. Even if you read a story and think what they wrote is better than anything you could ever write, you are still a person who read that story and now has thoughts about it. So your opinions and what you liked and disliked is valuable and writers love hearing feedback, no matter how simple or how in-depth it is.

6. You can enter in some weeks and not in others.

This isn't a strictly timed competition, it's just a place to harbor ideas and various stories written by writers who want to improve and enjoy their writing and help other writers improve.

7. Post your submission as a story on your profile, then copy and paste the story link in a comment on here.

Then I will add your username & story to the list of that week's stories & that week's comment board so everyone knows you submitted a story and they can check it out.

8. You can enter in past weeks that you missed as well.

If you decide to submit a story for a previous week, please include in your comment which week it is a submission for. Your story will be added to that week's story list & that week's comment board.

This will work on an every-other-week system. One week will be time for everyone to write their story using the prompt, then the following week everyone we'll get to see each other's stories and have time to read and comment. Then the next week there is a new prompt for everyone to write, afterward a week to comment. That way people have a lot of time to write and also a lot of time to check out other people's stuff and give quality feedback.

Check out the spreadsheet & add your username so you can easily keep track of which stories you've given feedback to : https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16Ni_aL5Qlr-hHTNshJ6xwLZVtV8kPw_V6r6hgtToxus/edit#gid=0

You can enter your story in before the week ends. And also, once a story is posted you can of course go ahead and read it and give feedback, even if the week to write isn't over. This isn't a strict contest, but loose time limits will keep things in check a bit that way people have some guidance to get stuff done.
