The Lively Guy Analysis Part 1: The Thoughts Behind the Characters, Symbolism, etc.

Gyu (Kim SungGyu)

Up until now, Gyu is portrayed as a 'leader' type, and the younger guys look up to him, even the humans SungYeol and Hoya, despite the fact that the two probably know more about the human world than a mere hamster. However, Gyu actually symbolizes wisdom in this story. He was originally a small hamster with no knowledge, but he grew into a human who led the other guys. He's a dependable character. That's why when the guys are in trouble, they go to SungGyu for wisdom. When he is in the hospital recovering, the guys 'lose their wisdom' and make poor choices.

Remember how each lively guy was brought into SungYeol's life for a reason? Gyu was meant to care for SungYeol as a father, just as he cares for the others. He plays a father figure in this story.

DdoDdo (Jang DongWoo)

DdoDdo symbolizes the childhood SungYeol lost. Therefore, he is brought into the world to help SungYeol not lose his childhood. DongWoo is curious, playful, and overall caring. He is also close to Ms. Lee, like a child that clings onto his mother.

He also sees like a child. He immediately befriends AhReum because she is interesting. AhReum is actually insecure about her looks, and DongWoo never seems to understand it because like a child, he does not understand the concept of insecurity and similar society patterns. He only sees things without bias and therefore, does not realize that AhReum does not fit the beauty standard of society.

Bonsai Tree (Nam WooHyun)

Bonsai Tree has lasted 100 years and symbolizes consistency. Ever since WooHyun joined the family, there is always one consistency: love. Whether it came from Ms. Lee, Mr. Lee, Hoya, or the lively guys, there was someone loved.

When WooHyun leaves the Lee family to join the Parks, the love is filled in the Park household that was missing after the death of their son. However, there is an
