Growing up well

Junior Quest

Sometimes complicate questions have simple answers. Leeteuk was still trying to get over it.

“So...? He peed...?” - Leeteuk couldn’t believe it - “in the toilet? Like a big boy?”

“Yep” - Heechul yawned - “He told me on time. Not that I expect everything will be easier from here but... it’s something”

“KYU PEE POTTY!” - Kyuhyun kept celebrating his achievement while running around - “BIG BOY!”

“Honey that’s so good” - Leeteuk praised the boy - “But next time you should tell me first because dada needs to rest”

“No worries~ The restroom is not that far” - Heechul was limping around with his new crutches - “Also, I like helping”

“Yeah... well, even if you managed to ‘solve’ Kyuhyun’s problem with sitting in the toilet... that solution won’t work when he needs to poop” - Leeteuk twisted his lips - “Pee standing up is one thing but pooping...”

Heechul laughed. The parent was told his son feared sitting in the toilet and he just found a solution for that: not having to sit. Kyuhyun was a boy after all, if he wanted to pee standing up, he had no problem.

“Maybe if he starts going often to the toilet he eventually will lose that fear” - Heechul shuddered - “Lets just celebrate this little achievement”

“Sure” - Leeteuk smiled - “There is still a long way to go but I feel reassured he will do fine since now you are here to help”

“I also miss—“

“WAAAAAAAAA! DADA!” - Kyuhyun was running back to them - “DADADADADADADADADADA!”

“What happened?” - Heechul asked scared - “Whats wrong? Why are you crying?”

“CHIRP CHIRP SCAWY!” - Kyuhyun pointed at the other direction - “FWYIN!”

“Ah, Yeah” - Heechul scratched his head

“Did you let it free again?” - Leeteuk pulled Heechul’s ear - “We had a long discussion about that freaking bird going around the house”

“But I cant let Robin inside the cage all time” - Heechul whined - “That’s just cruel”

“You bought a big one” - Leeteuk sulked - “And that bird is... naughty”

“TEUK TEUK TEUK TEUK!” - Robin was calling Leeteuk in a cheerful way - “HIIII”

“Hi, Robin” - Leeteuk sighed - “Why is he calling me?”

“I think he learned your name since I’m always calling you” - Heechul found the bird funny - “He also learned to say ‘Dada’, ‘Kyu’, ‘Wookie’ and ‘Kangin’ “

“Kyu!” - the bird chanted - “Kyu Kyu Kyu Kyu”

“So he repeats what he hears often” - Leeteuk observed the bird playing with some toys Heechul got for him - “No wonder he learned ‘Kangin’ first. I can’t stop scolding him... he won’t listen to me”

“He is a good boy”

“I know” - Leeteuk smiled - “He is just naughty. He takes after you”

“ME?!” - Heechul faked surprise- “Oh my! I didn’t know that!”

“Cmon” - Leeteuk giggled - “Dont give me troubles. Take Robin to his cage... school is almost over and those little troublemakers won’t eat if they get distracted with the bird”

“WOBIN BYE BYE!” - Kyuhyun enjoyed the bird when it was locked inside the big cage filled with food and toys - “Byeeeee”

“Byeeeee” - Robin repeated. The bird loved his big cage and only would go out when Heechul opened the gate himself. Mrs Jung and Leeteuk tried calling him once but the bird just ignored them. The babysitter started suspecting the bird had a strong personality that suited the family.

“DADA!” - Ryeowook jumped on Heechul as soon as he opened the door - “FOW YOU!”

“Aw~ you made me another card” - Heechul hugged the sweet boy and showered him with kisses - “I will put it on the fridge with the others~”

“ME TOO! ME TOO!” - Donghae still had glue in his hands - “MINE IS PRETTY”

“MINE TOO!” - Sungmin showed his dad his masterpiece - “VERY PRETTY”

“MINE IS BETTER!” - Eunhyuk stuck out his tongue

“All are pretty” - Heechul tried to avoid a fight - “I like them ALL”

“But Ryeowook’s is messy” - Siwon commented in a harsh way - “I think it’s UGLY”

The small toddler bursted into tears. Heechul was hurt as he couldn’t carry the boy thanks to his leg. It was something dangerous.

“Ow ow ow” - Heechul was wiping Ryeowook’s tears - “You got so hurt~ Ryeowookkie~ I think your card is really pretty, it’s beautiful”

Ryeowook gasped when Kyuhyun started crying as well. He got hurt seeing his twin being sad.

“No zad, Kyu” - Ryeowook started wiping his tears by himself - “no cwy”

“Uh” - Kyuhyun pouted - “Wookie Kay?”

“Ung” - Ryeowook nodded - “Kay”

Kyuhyun smiled. He loved his twin over everything.

“KYU PEED POTTY!” - Kyuhyun told his twin - “Liwe Wookie!”

Ryeowook jumped excited. He shared the happiness that his twin felt. Ryeowook was so proud of his twin he kept telling everyone about how Kyuhyun was ‘big’ now. Something that Leeteuk found funny about Kyuhyun’s potty training was the fact his biggest supporter was his twin. Ryeowook would follow Kyuhyun everywhere and ask him if he needed to pee or if he needed help. The shortest boy would also cheer for him when he succeeded and confort him when he failed.

“Why are you so mean with your little brother?” - Heechul complained to Siwon - “He got hurt today”

“Because!” - Siwon seemed upset - “Wookie told me he prefers Robin over me!”

Heechul laughed. He couldn’t avoid it. Ryeowook loved the new bird plus he was a toddler: it made sense he would say something like that. Siwon was too young to understand his little brother was just saying what was on his mind without really meaning it.

“Ryeowook! Come here!” - Heechul called the short boy - “Do you love me?”

“Ung!” - Ryeowook chirped - “Lotzzzz”

“What about Siwon?” - Heechul tried - “Do you love Siwonnie?”

“Ung!” - Ryeowook chuckled. He was having fun answering to Heechul’s questions - “Wonnie!”

“Who do you love more: Robin or Siwon?” - Heechul was expectant

“Uh...” - Ryeowook bit his thump. It was a hard question - “WOBIN”

“SEE?” - Siwon was in despair - “HE PREFERS THE BIRD OVER ME!”

“Why do you like Robin more than your brother?” - Leeteuk found amusing Ryeowook’s answers and wanted to have more fun

“Pwetty~ Uh... talkz” - Ryeowook tried to explain what he liked about his new pet - “Zoffff”

“Yeah, Robin is soft” - Heechul agreed - “What do you like about Siwon?”

“Big” - Ryeowook bounced - “Liwe Dino!”

“He says you are big like a dinosaur” - Leeteuk translated.

Siwon twisted his lips. He wasn’t convinced at all by Ryeowook’s words. He was still hurt as the boy chose the bird over him. Leeteuk And Heechul were having fun with Ryeowook’s funny answers when Kangin stormed inside the mansion.

“Heeeeeey” - Heechul got hurt seeing his boy so upset - “You are home...?”

“I got kicked out of the team... temporarily” - Kangin cried - “It wasn’t my fault!”

“Hey, Calm down” - Heechul tried - “What happened?”

“An older kid pushed me” - Kangin sobbed - “And And and... And then he started hitting me and I just tried to defend myself but our coach got mad at both of us and... and... and...”

“Alright~ it’s not that bad~” - Heechul hugged the boy - “I’m sure he will understand when I explain it to him. You will be back in the team in no time”

“What about the kid?” - Kangin worried - “He hates me. He is always complaining about me and my friend being in the team because he says we are babies”

“I will think about what to do” - Heechul scratched his head - “But If he hits you again... I will make sure he regrets it”

“An older kid?” - Yesung worried - “How old? A second grader?”

“A third grader” - Kangin sulked - “Is he in your class? The tall boy with that ugly haircut?”

“Ah~ no, he is not” - Yesung shook his head - “He is also a third grader but he is from B class. We don’t share classroom”

“Thanks God” - Kangin relaxed - “It would be scary to be in the same classroom”

“I guess so” - Yesung sighed - “I’m sorry for you since he is in the same soccer team”

Next day, wasn’t different at all. Heechul worked from home while Kyuhyun succeeded in driving Leeteuk crazy. Henry learned a bad word by accident after Heechul cursed when the toddler had an accident in his office. Robin also learned the word. Leeteuk blamed Heechul for it and ended getting mad at him.

Finally, Saturday arrived and all kids got to stay home all day. It was still morning when the younger kids were already involved in an argument.

“No no no!” - Eunhyuk pulled his hair - “wrong!”

“Like this!” - Donghae was being a little violent while he tried correcting the twins’s positions - “Uh oh”

“UWAAAA!” - the twins cried after receiving their siblings’s complains about their dancing skills - “DADAAA!”

“Kids...” - Heechul yawned - “Be nice. Play together and be nice to each other”

“No play! We dance!” - Eunhyuk corrected his dad - “Twins no dance!”

“They are still too clumsy to follow Eunhyuk’s choreo” - Leeteuk explained - “I thought they were cute but the older boys are getting tired of their mistakes”

“uhuuu!” - Kyuhyun was in despair - “DADAAAAA! HEWP!”

Ryeowook just sobbed. The boy had no words for describing how hurt he was after Eunhyuk told him to stop dancing. Heechul took a deep breath; ever since the triplets got to stay home often as the parent couldn’t go out at all, Eunhyuk started making his own dance steps. The little boy was a choreographer at his short age. Problem was, he would get mad if someone couldn’t follow it properly and that’s why chaos got served when the twins wanted to participate in the dance lesson as well.

“Why can’t you be patient with them?” - Leeteuk tried - “They get hurt if you scold them”

“They can’t dance” - Eunhyuk folded his arms - “They ”

Heechul wanted to laugh and cry at the same time. Eunhyuk was cheeky enough to give Leeteuk a headache.

“No zuk!” - Kyuhyun complained - “Wookie Kyu no bad!”

Ryeowook suffered the most maybe because he acknowledged Eunhyuk was right. In a try to cheer them, Leeteuk decided to take the lead and start a new activity that all kids could do.

“ARE WE MAKING COOKIES?!” - Donghae was beyond excited with the idea

“COOKIEEEE!” - Sungmin bounced

“Cookie~” - Kyuhyun was also happy

“Let’s do it well~ If we succeed, Dad and your big brothers will eat tasty cookies”

All kids got big eyes. Siwon, the triplets and the twins worked diligently following Leeteuk’s instructions. Thanks to the babysitter’s help, in no time, cookie dough was almost done.

“Since we want to make the ones you can cut in cute shapes, we need to refrigerate the dough” - Leeteuk explained as he carried the bowl - “Lets be careful and—“

Usually, Ryeowook wasn’t clumsy. But that day, maybe because he was sleepy, he ended causing an accident.

“OH MY, I DIDNT SEE YOU!” - Leeteuk apologized after crashing with the boy - “IM SO SORRY!”

Ryeowook was crying non stop. Leeteuk was worried the boy was hurt from the crash. Kyuhyun also seemed concerned about it as he tried to check on his twin’s head.

“COOKIEZ!” - Ryeowook cried as he pointed at the dough on the floor - “COOKIEEEZ!”

“Ah” - Leeteuk relaxed a bit - “Yeah... it got ruined but, we can make more~ please don’t cry is not that bad”

“My fault...” - Ryeowook sobbed - “Wookie zuckz”

“Oh honey, you don’t ‘’ “ - Leeteuk was still trying to get used to the fact Ryeowook learned that horrible word from his siblings- “It was an accident! And to be honest, it was my fault. I was the one that crashed with you”

“Nuh...” - Ryeowook seemed so sad. The boy laid on the couch quietly and didn’t make a sound. Kyuhyun followed him and tried to cheer him up by himself, but it didn’t work.

“Uncle” - Donghae was pulling Leeteuk’s sleeve - “Cookies?”

“I’m sorry, sweetheart” - Leeteuk was looking for the ingredients again - “Oh? It can’t be... We don’t have that much flour left...”

“Flour? For cookies?” - Eunhyuk repeated - “Uhmmm let’s go!”

“Let’s go” - Sungmin pulled Leeteuk’s shirt - “Grocery shopping”

“Uh? Grocery shopping? But—“

“We can do it” - Siwon cheered - “Uncle taught me how to buy stuff!”

“Yeah, That’s right but—“

“WE GO TOO!” - the triplets chirped - “WE MONEY TOO!”

“Kids” - Leeteuk didn’t want to ruin their good intentions - “You just cant go out like that... I mean, you are still too young for that”

“Run errands!” - Sungmin insisted - “We can!”

“Ung!” - Eunhyuk And Donghae nodded

“I will take care of them” - Siwon was basically begging - “Pleaaaaase. Let me do this for Ryeowook! I... I... I want to do it myself”

“Me Too” - Eunhyuk pouted - “He doesn’t . My fault”

Apparently, both kids wanted to be nice to the little brother they bullied during the week. Leeteuk wasn’t sure at all but it seemed like if the kids would get hurt if they couldn’t help.

“I will allow it” - Heechul was actually calm about the idea of letting four young boys going to the grocery store- “You are going with them, aren’t you? If you are going with them, then I have nothing to worry about. You are the best babysitter in the world”

“Uh ung!” - Leeteuk blushed. It wasn’t his intention to turn red after receiving Heechul’s praising about his work with the kids - “T-thanks”

“Uh? Why are you turning red? “ - Heechul teased - “Did you fall in love with me?”

“Idiot” - Leeteuk stormed out of the mansion followed by four curious kids

The kids actually behaved well. They wouldn’t dare to go against Leeteuk’s instructions since they wanted to fulfill their wish of helping.

“This too” - Eunhyuk carried a pack of chocolate chips - “For cookies”

“Do you want to make chocolate chip cookies?” - Leeteuk smiled - “That’s a good idea. I didn’t know you liked those”

“Twins... like chocolate” - Eunhyuk said shyly - “Wookie and Kyu... I want to make them happy”

“I’m sure they will love it” - Leeteuk patted the boy’s head - “You are such a good brother”

Siwon was carrying a heavy pack of seeds. Leeteuk wasn’t sure if the boy had mistook the package for something else.

“For Robin” - Siwon sighed - “Uncle said we were running out of these”

“Ah! That’s nice!” - Leeteuk clapped - “I’m sure Robin will love it”

Siwon twisted his lips a bit and then smiled. Leeteuk was ready to pay when Eunhyuk pulled his sleeve.

“Do you need to go potty?” - maybe the babysitter was traumatized since the kids would ask for the toilet as soon as they went out

“N-no” - Eunhyuk shook his head quickly - “I want to pay... with my money”

“Uh? Honey, there is no need for that” - Leeteuk found cute how Eunhyuk was actually giving him money from his cute coin case - “Those are your savings, remember?”

Leeteuk was shocked when the boy insisted. Heechul had just started to introduce the concept of ‘money’ to the children. He would give them an allowance every weekend so they could either save it or spend it. Some kids were better than others when it came to decisions. Donghae couldn’t care less about savings... he would just use it all. Kangin wasn’t that different. Yesung would save money for things he wanted, the twins only liked coins that they could fit in their piggy bank  and there was Eunhyuk who resulted being the stingy boy of the family: he haven’t spent a single cent and always refused to do so. Worst part was, he wouldn’t let anyone else touched ‘his money’.

“I want to pay” - Eunhyuk repeated - “Please”

“Alright... but you don’t need to use your money” - Leeteuk thought that maybe the boy just wanted to do it like an experience- “Take this and pay for it”

“No need” - Eunhyuk refused to accept the babysitter’s offer - “I have money. My money”

Leeteuk was confused but he didn’t want to waste time. He decided he would let Eunhyuk paid even if that felt like selling his own soul to the boy. They returned to the mansion only to find peace.

“They fell asleep” - Heechul yawned - “I think Ryeowook was just sleepy. I’m sure he will wake up in a good mood”

“Let’s make cookies!” - Donghae chirped - “Go go!”

“UNG!” - the other boys replied as they ran to the kitchen

“You know... Eunhyuk offered himself to pay. He even used his savings” - Leeteuk scratched his head - “I have this feeling that maybe... just maybe... he feels guilty about what happened earlier. Did you tell him something?”

“Not really” - Heechul tilted his head - “But Eunhyuk loves money. He wouldn’t use it unless... he never uses it. This is weird”

Leeteuk helped the kids making cookies. He was so exhausted by the time the cookies were done. The boys kept staring at the hot trays with awe.

“They are still hot. You can’t touch them ok?” - Leeteuk wanted to believe the kids listened to him - “We will eat them after your brothers come back from their practices”

“Ung!” - The kids agreed. Again, Leeteuk wanted to believe the kids wouldn’t try anything stupid.

“Zmell goo’ !” - Kyuhyun was now wide awake - “Cookie?”

“Yeah, your brothers baked cookies” - Heechul giggled - “We can try them later”

“Ung~ kay” - Kyuhyun nodded softly

“Cookiez?” - Ryeowook seemed confused. He was sure he had ruined the dough. The boy burrowed his face in the cushion after remembering what happened earlier.

“Wook” - Eunhyuk was patting his back softly - “Wookie”

“Uh?” - Ryeowook was almost sure his brother would complain about it. He was sure he was getting scolded - “Sowy”

“No, no ‘sorry’. I’m sorry” - Eunhyuk pouted - “You don’t ‘’, ‘kay? I was mean”

“Uh?” - Ryeowook didnt understand at all but Eunhyuk didn’t seem angry. If his brother wasn’t angry at him then it was fine.

Eunhyuk sighed. He seemed clueless about what to do next. He just hugged his brother and kissed his cheek.

“Lets play together, kay?” - Eunhyuk was still holding the now happy boy - “I love you”

“Wookie lovez Hyu’ “ - Ryeowook chirped cheerfully - “Lotzzz”

“Whats going on here?” - Heechul observed the full scene - “Did he just... apologize?”

“Uhum” - Leeteuk nodded. He was as shocked as his friend - “and he did it by himself. He understood what he did and tried to fix it”

“That’s why he paid at the store and insisted going there...” - Heechul felt his heart warm- “He wanted to make Ryeowook happy”

“He is such a good kid” - Leeteuk was also touched - “They are all angels”

“I will teach you to dance” - Eunhyuk was telling the twins- “I promise”

“Eunhyuk~ Teuk told me you paid at the store today” - Heechul wanted to encourage good actions - “Since you used your savings, I’m giving you some money ok?”

“Thanks~” - Eunhyuk received the money. He got cash and a few coins. He was about to put it in his own case when he noticed the twins’s sparkling eyes.

“Coin!” - Kyuhyun pointed at one of the shining coins - “Piggy!”

“That’s Eunhyuk’s money” - Heechul pulled Kyuhyun’s ear - “You have yours. I will give you anot—“

“For your piggy” - Eunhyuk gave a coin to Kyuhyun and then took another one for Ryeowook- “You too”

The twins couldn’t be more happy. They ran to their piggy banks and saved the coins. They actually didn’t care about money at all, they just liked the idea of storing coins inside a pig.

“HOW COME YOU GREW UP SO MUCH?” - Heechul was squeezing Eunhyuk’s face - “YOU ARE SUCH A BIG BOY NOW. IM SO PROUD OF YOU”

Eunhyuk just chuckled. He was happy that Heechul and the twins were happy. The twins came back from storing their coins and hugged Eunhyuk. Siwon was looking at them from the distance. Leeteuk decided that maybe, the boy just needed a little help.

“Kids, do you know? Today Siwon bought this for Robin” - Leeteuk showed the kids the seeds - “He chose it himself. Isn’t he cool?”

“UNG!” - Ryeowook seemed happy with the seed’s package - “WOBIN FOOD! THANKZ!”

Siwon was so touched when the twins hugged him that he cried. As soon as he started crying, Henry also approached him and started trying to clean his tears. The baby hated watching people cry.

“No cwy” - Kyuhyun pouted a bit - “No Zad. Happy!”

“Love youuuu” - Ryeowook was so cheesy when he was in a good mood - “Kizz kizz!”

Heechul was having the best day ever seeing how his kids loved each other so much. Love was in the air. The siblings were all playing together in a good mood. No fights. No tears that weren’t from joy. It was Heechul’s favourite moment: the moment when everyone was getting along. Leeteuk noticed Heechul was happy as he saw him smiling all the time. He even hummed different songs while working.

“Pee!” - Kyuhyun broke the peace with his urgent scream- “POTTY! POTTY!”

Leeteuk rushed to help the boy. The toddler wouldn’t give them that much time after a warning and it sounded urgent. The babysitter took the boy to the toilet. Lucky for him, Kyuhyun succeeded again. Ryeowook cheered as Heechul put another sticker in the potty chart. Then, it just happened again.

“Poop” - Kyuhyun announced

“Do you have to poop?” - Heechul wanted to laugh thanks to Leeteuk’s face - “Do you want to try going in the toilet? Like Ryeowook? Like a big boy?”

“Uh... nuh. Scawy” - another refusal. Kyuhyun was doing better at telling them when he needed to go and pee in the potty but pooping was a whole different level. The boy refused to sit in the toilet and therefore refused to poop in the toilet. Leeteuk had read all books about potty training while Heechul even consulted an specialist: they got nothing. Kyuhyun’s problem wouldn’t be solved that easily.

“Let’s put a diaper on” - Heechul found hilarious how he had to diaper the toddler every single time he wanted to poop - “And... Have a great time...?”

Now that the boy was being potty trained, Kyuhyun was aware of what it meant to pee and poop. He didn’t want to be rude and therefore wouldn’t go ‘doing’ his business all over the house (unless he had an accident) . He understood that the restroom was the place where people should poop and did his best to stick to that. Leeteuk was often surprised by the control the boy had considering that he would wait patiently for getting diapered and then walking to the proper place to take care of his urge.

“So well mannered” - Heechul praised the boy - “I never thought toddlers were so self conscious until I started raising the kids. I remember once I told Sungmin his feet smelled like cheese and a few minutes later, I found him washing his feet in the bathtub. I felt so stupid”

“They learn from us” - Leeteuk smiled - “That’s why we need to be a good example. Just how I blame you for their bad behaviours... I also know is thanks to you they are all sweet kids”

“Do you think I am sweet?” - Heechul blushed a bit - “I never pictured myself like ‘sweet’ person”

“All the kids take after you in different aspects” - Leeteuk pinched Heechul’s cheek - “I’m proud of you. You are raising them so well~”

Heechul felt his face burning. Receiving such a praise from someone special like Leeteuk. He admired Leeteuk. It was like the admiration he once felt towards Gunhee.

“Now, who likes who?” - Leeteuk teased - “Do you like me?”

“I—“

“Kyu pooped!” - Ryeowook announced- “Dada! Changeeee!”

Heechul had no time to reply as Ryeowook dragged him to the restroom. He wanted his twin to be clean as soon as possible so they could resume their game. Leeteuk giggled seeing the scene. The family had changed so much in the past months. He was often thankful for the way the kids were now, but he also had to admit the biggest change was Heechul’s one. He was really proud of the parent.

“Not too fast! Dad can’t walk that fast yet!” - Heechul tried to use his clutches as the twins played tricks on him - “HEY BRATS!”

The older kids were finally back from their practices. They both seemed normal so Heechul took for granted they were just fine. They had their snacks together with the cookies Leeteuk and the kids baked. Yesung and Kangin went upstairs first as they were tired, but Leeteuk ended listening to a conversation he wasn’t supposed to, after he helped Kyuhyun with a potty break.

“... but I can’t tell him!” - Kangin hissed

“But you should” - Yesung whispered- “Uncle will get upset if you don’t tell him”

“I cant!” - Kangin sounded flustered- “He is going to worry and I don’t want him to do it!”

“Kangin, this is serious” - Yesung was obviously worried - “That kid hit you really hard today. Next time you could get really hurt”

“I will survive” - Kangin insisted - “Please don’t tell him...”

“I promise” - Yesung finally agreed - “But you have to stay away from that kid. If he touches you again... I will tell Uncle and Teuk”

“Fine” - Kangin sulked - “I will make sure he doesn’t hit me again”

Leeteuk wasn’t sure of what to do. He decided he would inform Heechul about it but the very moment he saw the parent being so happy with the boys... that idea drifted away. He didn’t want to ruin Heechul’s happiness. It had been a while since the parent had a good weekend and he deserved to have a great time with his kids without nothing to worry about.

(Anyway, Kangin won’t go to soccer practice again before Wednesday) Leeteuk thought. He decided he would warn the parent once the weekend ended.

Heechul had a blast that weekend. All his kids were healthy and happy. Their pets were also full of energy. Kyuhyun was doing better at potty training, Henry was learning new words and the triplets managed to teach the twins a little dance.

That’s why the parent hated the idea of Monday’s morning. He woke up feeling down knowing that they were back to daily routine after a good weekend.

“I’m going to miss you” - Heechul was hugging the triplets so hard Leeteuk feared he could injure them - “This mansión is so quiet while you are away...”

“They will be back by lunch” - Leeteuk was now worrying for the young Ryeowook- “Like always. Don’t be sad, you need to rest”

“And work” - Heechul sighed - “Having a broken leg doesn’t mean I get vacations...”

“You silly boy” - Heechul’s mother laughed - “I will make sure to bring all of your kids back~ I like this of being their school bus”

“Thanks mom” - Heechul teased - “Make sure you don’t forget Ryeowook at daycare. He is so small you barely can’t see him”

“NO TWUE!” - Ryeowook protested - “WOOKIE BIG DINO!”

“Bye bye, ‘little’ dino” - Heechul send a flying kiss to the shortest boy - “Don’t get in troubles~”

“HPHM!” - Ryeowook walked away stomping his feet on purpose. He was clearly upset by Heechul’s teasing.

Leeteuk was so busy potty training (or trying to) Kyuhyun that he forgot about the thing he had to discuss with Heechul. He remembered it just when the two kids they were looking after, went to sleep.

“Heechul, do you have a minute?” - Leeteuk entered the office - “It’s about the kids”

“Don’t worry, Ryeowook is not going to hate me for calling him ‘little’ “ - Heechul chuckled - “I just love teasing him”

“I actually wanted to talk about Kangin” - Leeteuk smiled - “Remember That he told a kid bullied him earlier? Apparently it happened again but... he decided to not tell us”

“Uh? Why?” - Heechul was now paying full attention to the babysitter - “Did he get in troubles?”

“No, but he sounded concerned about you getting worried” - Leeteuk explained - “It’s not like I wanted to tell you but I think you should know”

“Of course” - Heechul nodded - “If there is something wrong, I need to know it. They are all my precious children! I do care about their lives!”

“What are you going to do about it?” - Leeteuk scratched his head - “I have been thinking of it, and maybe, we should take actions before it gets—“

“That’s my phone” - Heechul seemed confused as he saw the number on the screen- “It’s from the school”

Leeteuk paled. For experience, if the school or daycare called, it wasn’t something good. He prayed that it was just something silly like the time Siwon forgot his lunch box at home.

“Too late” - Heechul bit his lips after ending the call - “Let’s call my mom. I can’t drive like this and... well, let’s ask Mrs Jung to look after Kyuhyun and Henry while we are out”

“What happened?” - Leeteuk worried - “The kids...”

“He got into a fight” - Heechul was sweating - “Teachers said he got hurt”

Leeteuk didn’t ask for more information as he feared Heechul could faint any moment. He just prayed all the way for the kid to be alright. When they arrived, Leeteuk expected to find Kangin in the principal’s room... not Yesung.

“What on earth...?” - Leeteuk paled when he saw Yesung’s purple eye - “Honey, are you alright? What happened?”

Yesung wasn’t crying. He was actually quiet.

“What happened?” - Heechul asked as well - “Why did you get into a fight?”

“He hurt Kangin” - Yesung twisted his lips - “We were in our free period when that idiot pushed Kangin. I asked him to stop bothering my little brother but instead, he just pulled his hair. I wasn’t going to allow it anymore”

“Mr Kim” - The principal spoke before Heechul could say anything - “We do not like kids getting involved in fights, but taking into account Yesung was just trying to defend his brother, we won’t take further actions. We just don’t want it to happen again”

“S-sure” - Heechul took Yesung with him - “Thanks. I will talk to him. Thanks again”

As soon as they were out of the office, Heechul turned to Yesung.

“Are you insane?!” - Heechul was about to cry - “You could have gotten hurt! You should have called a teacher or... or me! Never do this again! Oh boy, your ey—“

Yesung rejected Heechul’s hand. The parent just wanted to inspect the purple eye.

“I’m fine” - Yesung sighed - “And Kangin is now safe too. I promise I won’t do it again... I just... I just couldn’t stand watching him suffer. Kangin didn’t want to worry you and... well, I thought that maybe if I helped solving the issue, you wouldn’t get involved”

“What?” - Heechul didn’t know how to feel - “But worrying about you it’s my job! You can’t take that from me. Come here, give me a hug”

“I love you, uncle” - Yesung leaned on Heechul’s chest - “I promise I won’t get into fights. I just wanted to teach that kid a lesson”

“Alright...” - Heechul nodded in understanding- “How was it?”

Yesung smirked.

“Even if he was bigger than me, I won” - Yesung seemed proud of his doing - “He ended crying”

“Wow” - Heechul felt proud of the boy - “I never expected you were good at fighting”

“He even lost a tooth” - Yesung grinned - “I only got this purple eye, but I didn’t cry”

Leeteuk wasn’t happy. Heechul could forgive the boy’s behaviour easily because he was deeply concerned about the boy not asking for his help. Leeteuk was different. He understood what Yesung did, but still, wasn’t happy with the boy’s decision.

“We need to talk” - Leeteuk locked the door after the kid got inside the room - “Sit”

“Are you mad  at me?” - Yesung asked curiously- “You look upset”

“I am” - Leeteuk nodded - “You shouldn’t have done that. I understand you wanted to protect Kangin by yourself, but there were other ways to do so. Better ways”

“Like what? Calling a teacher?” - Yesung folded his arms - “Do you think I didn’t try that before? Even his coach thought it was just ‘kids’s arguments’ and did nothing. I wasn’t going to wait that kid hurt my brother again”

“Honey, why didn’t you tell us?” - Leeteuk sat next to the boy - “Your uncle and I... we both worry about you. You should have told us if there was something bothering you. A kid like you shouldn’t carry with those responsibilities”

“You are the one that doesn’t understand” - Yesung shook his head - “I didn’t tell you because I knew you would tell uncle as well. You know him too, he wouldn’t have stopped worrying all day. I want him to be happy... just like this weekend”

“Still” - Leeteuk pinched Yesung’s cheeks - “Adults must take care of children. Next time, make sure of telling me or your grandma. If you don’t want to stress your uncle, fine; but don’t keep it to yourself”

“Teuk” - Yesung smiled sweetly - “Can I ask you something?”

“Sure”

“Are we friends Now?” - Yesung’s Silly unexpected question caught Leeteuk by surprise

“I— I suppose we are” - Leeteuk nodded - “It was you the one that didn’t like me. Do you like me now?”

“I’m still jealous of the relation you have with my uncle” - Yesung teased - “But I like you. I think we are friends”

“Then, we are friends” - Leeteuk smiled pleased - “And... since we are friends... next time you will tell me, right?”

“Sure” - Yesung shuddered - “Why not? Fighting is actually tiring~ And I didn’t like how it felt hitting someone”

“That’s good” - Leeteuk giggled - “I’m sure your uncle is proud of you”

“My dad didn’t know how to fight” - Yesung looked at his fist - “I heard that uncle used to get into a lot of fights when young”

“Your uncle has many stories of those” - Leeteuk scoffed - “He was reckless”

“Teuk” - Yesung took a deep breath - “Uncle Hee is my dad, isn’t he?”

The babysitter froze. He did not expect that.

“Somehow I have always known that” - Yesung smiled softly- “I don’t know what’s the difference between being his or Gunhee’s son, but I can tell I am uncle’s son”

“I’m not sure of what to say” - Leeteuk got the chills. Yesung still lacked the biology knowledge needed to understand the difference and he didn’t want to provide an answer without asking Heechul first.

“It’s ok” - Yesung tilted his head - “I just wanted you to know it”

“Ah~” - Leeteuk was still in shock. He didn’t expect that confession - “Sure”

“That’s why I need your help” - Yesung blushed - “I want him to consider me his son! Like... for real!”

“Honey...” - Leeteuk’s head was spinning - “I’m pretty much sure he already does”

“Uh hmm” - Yesung shook his head - “I want him to adopt me!”

Leeteuk panicked. He wasn’t sure if Yesung was just fooling around or if he was serious about it. Not that he didn’t think it was a good idea to tell the boy he was actually Heechul’s son but going as far as asking the poor man to take legal action...

“I think he would love to do that” - Leeteuk cleared his throat - “but you know? Getting adopted legally won’t change his heart. I think things are fine just like this”

“I guess you are Right” - Yesung smiled softly- “I don’t want to cause him troubles. I just... I hope he knows I am ok with him being my dad”

“He is lucky to have a son like you” - Leeteuk was touched - “Your uncle loves you, Yesung”

“I know” - Yesung giggled - “That’s why he says that if I get hurt he also gets hurt”

“Exactly”

“And That’s why he got so sad when we fought”

“Exact— wait, how did you know that?” - Leeteuk started suspecting something was odd - “Yesung, is there something you forgot to tell me?”

“Uhmmmm” - Yesung gulped down anxiously- “Maybe I read uncle’s secret diary. Just maybe”

“You bad boy” - Leeteuk face palmed himself - “You are not supposed to read that! Your uncle writes all kind of stuff there! Some are not suited for all public!”

“I skip the spicy parts” - Yesung teased - “Those are boring. I don’t care if he finds Siwon’s kindergarten attractive, I just wanted to know if he was happy”

“Yesung!”

“Sorry” - Yesung chuckled - “Are you going to tell uncle I read his diary?”

“Of course I will!” - Leeteuk felt attacked - “That’s something private!”

“He reads yours” - Yesung tried

“That’s silly, I don’t write a diary” - Leeteuk frowned - “and even if I did, I don’t think—“

“He knows your password. He hacked your laptop. He wrote about it: ‘I felt so guilty’ “ - Yesung recalled - “Also, your birthday date is not a good password”

Heechul was working in his office when the door opened with a loud bang.

“Teuk?” - Heechul seemed confused - “Everything Alright?”

“you tell me” - Leeteuk was pointing at Heechul’s diary - “Whatever you wrote here about me, Yesung read it!”

“Oh~ so That brat was the one reading my diary” - Heechul bit his pencil - “I thought it was you, so I played you a joke. That’s funny”

“It’s not! What did you write?” - Leeteuk worried

“Here” - Heechul opened the notebook and searched for the last page - “Read from

Here”

“ ‘When I see Leeteuk with the kids, I can’t stop thinking about how he would make a wonderful wife. He even bakes cookies. I wonder if mother would accept our marriage’ ” - Leeteuk was about to faint - “ ‘Dear Teuk, stop reading my diary. I read yours in retaliation. Please change your password, birthday dates are way too obvious; with love, Heechul’ “

“See?” - Heechul shrank his shoulders - “I’m sorry. I really thought it was you”

“I really hope you didn’t write anything to worry about in this diary” - Leeteuk sulked - “I’m pretty much sure Yesung read it all”

“He even ripped a sheet off” - Heechul observed - “I cant remember what I wrote there”

Yesung was reading it again. He couldn’t stop doing so.

“Every single time I see my kids being nice to each other, I remember the old times when Gunhee and Hani took care of me. Watching them growing and behaving like us, is probably my biggest source of happiness. Lately, I have noticed that the boys do take after me...”

Yesung hugged the sheet of paper. He smiled sweetly while thinking in Heechul’s words.

(If you are happy, then I am also happy) the boy thought before falling asleep.

“Uh? Taking a nap?” - Heechul entered the boy’s room and found the kid sleeping with the paper sheet still in his hand - “Tsk tsk. Bad boy~ Those were my private thoughts”

Heechul covered the boy with a blanket worrying that he would get cold. He also took off his glasses to prevent an accident.

“Uncle” - Yesung woke up right away - “Are you happy?”

“I am” - Heechul smiled to him - “I’m the luckiest man on earth”

“Can you stay with me?” - Yesung pulled his sleeve - “Just for a while”

“Sure” - Heechul sat on the bed - “Is there something you want to talk about? Something you read in the diary you shouldn’t read?”

“Are you my dad?” - Yesung asked softly

“Gunhee was your dad” - Heechul replied automatically

“And you?” - Yesung tried again

“I’m also your dad” - Heechul finally said it - “Yesung, you are still too young to understand but—“

“I’m happy because I am your son ” - Yesung smiled to him

“I’m happy because I am lucky to have wonderful kids like you and your siblings” - Heechul smiled as well - “Just watching you makes me happy”

Leeteuk found funny the scene of Heechul and Yesung sleeping on the same bed. Somehow, they had managed to fit themselves despite the bed being too small for both of them.

“You silly boys” - Leeteuk sighed - “If you catch a cold, you will give more work to do”

Heechul and Yesung would woke up violently a few minutes later thanks to Kyuhyun’s cheering.

“What happened?” - Heechul was so drowsy he could barely stand

“He did it!” - Leeteuk was excited as well - “He did it! Kyuhyun did it!”

“KYU POO POTTY!” - Kyuhyun jumped on Heechul - “BIG BOY!”

“THATS SO COOL!” - Heechul lifted the proud boy and celebrated as well - “OH MY GOD I FEEL LIKE IF YOU HAVE BEEN ADMITTED IN HARVARD!”

Yesung stared at them with a big smile.

(Yup, I’m really sure he is our dad)

“Be careful! that’s dangerous with your leg like that!” - Leeteuk was now scolding them - “Hey! Are you listening to me?”

(Leeteuk is definitely a mother, though) the boy with round glasses chuckled.

Author notes:

Leeteuk & Heechul

They don’t see each other as lovers but like brothers. Heechul found in Leeteuk the brother he lost while Leeteuk found the family he never had. Both of them admire each other but are too stubborn (and embarrassed) to admit so. Even if Leeteuk has his own bedroom, he spends lots of time visiting Heechul’s room as he worries for him and the kids~ that’s why sometimes you can believe he sleeps there. While Leeteuk is good giving Heechul advices regarding family matters, kids and his personal life; Heechul is good providing help about economics and teaches Leeteuk about things he never bothered to learn before ... like driving.

They make an awesome pair covering for each other’s flaws

Yesung & Kangin

Being the older kids was never easy. Kangin tended to be a rascal and Yesung used to get annoyed by it. Now that they both had matured a bit, their relationship got better. Kangin admires Yesung as he is his only older brother while Yesung likes having a partner to play with. After all, Kangin is Yesung’s first little brother. Both of them had started to enjoy spending time together.

Chapter 106: Authornim, you're back!🥹 and this crazy family as well 🤭

Watching TV is a good way to gain knowledge, so proud of Minnie here. But, like the saying goes, too much is bad, so don't do it fora long long time.

Henry being jealous of Cherry, aigoo, protesting by rooming out of Heeyeon's and Heechul's room. 😂

I knew Yesung's case is smelly armpits... and yes, it's hard to undergo puberty. Good thing he have supportive guardians

I wonder if Teuk's phone call with his real uncle is about his own schooling or his identity or a teaching oppurtunity?

I'm excited for Cheery's arrival... though I'm hoping for a teuk-centric as well. I wonder if they'll tell the kids regarding teuk's real attachment to them.

By the way, I find it cute when Hae and Henry fight for Teuk 🤭🥰, I like those moments, you know

I love everything, author, waiting for the next... 😊😊😊

Chapter 105: Here's me thinking Mina wanted to give the role to Mimi because she wanted him to practice and be better like his 2 older brothers. Their family are sweet 💙

Mrs. Kim and Teuk's "talk" made me cry. I envy them. Their love is so pure!

Aww, Minnie... for a second I think it's his hypothermia kicking in. Good thing it's ear infection.

Thanks authornim. Looking forward to the next
