Prologue
Summoning the Supernatural
"Welcome, ladies!" Rosé threw open the door and invited me and Lisa in with a grand gesture. "Jisoo and Jennie are already in the basement."
We hugged our friend and followed her inside, already smiling. It was the first Friday of the month, which meant sleepover party for the five of us. It was especially fun this month because Rosé's parents were out of town, meaning we had the house to ourselves. Jisoo also promised to bring her collection of scary movies and we were all looking forward to watching them.
We walked downstairs to her basement and wasted no time in laying our sleeping bags out and changing into comfortable pajamas. Don't get me wrong, we didn't plan on sleeping until the sun came up, but comfort was rule number 2 under the Sleepover Agreement we concocted our first night together.
"So girls, how was school?" Jisoo asked us, wiggling her eyebrows up and down. Lisa and I both groaned.
"Terrible," Lisa said at the same I said, "Why would you even ask us that?"
Ever since Jennie, Rosé, and Jisoo graduated, they made it a point to tease us about still being in high school, despite the fact that we were both barely a year younger than them and they were in our position half a year earlier.
I was afraid at first that we'd never get to see them when they went away, but the perks of living in a pretty small town right outside a big city meant they didn't have to go far for a good education.
"Hey, hey," Jennie stopped Jisoo from torturing us further. "No talk of school right now." Lisa looked ready to thank her until she shot us a wicked grin that spelled trouble in capital letters. "At least, not until we drink!" She pulled out two bottles of champagne to the sound of our cheers.
