Chapter 04

Dreams

Yura was on her way back to her dorm after she finished with her classes for the day. However, there was a huge crowd around the large bulletin board that was a few feet down. Trying to make her way past the students who were pushing and shoving, she finally made her way into the middle of the crowd.

"What's going on?" She tried to shout over the voices. A classmate she was acquainted with answered her.

"Professor Lee just posted who she's going to nominate to attend the upper classmen showcase!" The classmate shouted back.

This prompted Yura to fight the students even harder. From the corner of her eye, she saw students leaving with deflated looks on their faces. Even though there was a good chance she was not chosen, she still wanted to do her best to see the results. After shoving some random student out of her way, Yura made her way to the board only to be met with shock.

Lee Sojung

Kim Junseo

Park Minjun

Kim Yura

Yura screamed. Making her way out of the massive hoarde of students, she began sprinting back towards her dorm while screaming happily. This earned weird looks by other students who were walking around on campus.

"Did you hear that?" A girl asked her boyfriend as they heard a scream nearby. Yura ran past them still shouting happily. The couple only exchanged a confusing look before going on their way.

Yura could not explain this feeling, but this was probably close to euphoria. Slowing down, she rested leaning on her knees and panted from all the running and shouting. The smile that was etched on her face since she read her name on the board was still plastered there, not wanting to come off anytime soon.

"So that was you running around screaming?"

Yura looked up to see Youngkwang standing right before her with a grin on his face. Suddenly feeling embarassed, she began running her fingers through her hair, and even tried smoothing down the wrinkles on her crisp white blouse. She could feel the heat that was rising in her cheeks.

"Uh...yeah.." She admitted. But she wasn't ashamed of it, this was a big milestone in her life. She could care less about what other people thought.

"So what's the news? It has to be something big if it made you run around screaming like a banshee." Youngkwang joked.

"I got chosen to participate in the upperclassmen showcase!" Yura excitedly reponded.

"Wow! Congrats Yura! I'd give you a hug, but uh.." Youngkwang pointed out his crutches for his friend to see.

Yura laughed, "No no it's okay Youngkwang, but that's really nice of you to offer though! How long do you have to keep that cast on?" She asked whilst looking at the bulky white material on his lower left leg.

"Only two more weeks, but then I'm going to have to wear another cast after that, and it's even bulkier than this one. But at least I won't need these crutches anymore, so a win-win situation!" Youngkwang grinned.

"I don't think that's how win-win situations work Youngkwang." Yura chuckled.

"Whatever. Anyway, congradulations again! I actually have a cousin who was chosen back then when she was a student here like five years ago." Youngkwang said.

Yura's eyes almost bulged out of their sockets, "What really? Where is she now?" Was she in New York City? London? Paris? In a nice studio apartment with all of the expensive art supplies of the world? Is she famous? Are there many exhibitions dedicated to her?

"She's currently in Los Angeles. She's been a guest speaker for art students at UCLA for a few weeks now and I think she's almost done with that. Oh and I think she said she's settling there because she just managed to get a deal with some big art museum there." Youngkwang responded.

Yura almost floated to heaven. His cousin was definitely living the dream. If only she could be there already and not be in school right now...

"Anyway I'll catch you later, I have to turn in my digital logic design project to my professor." Youngkwang began limping away.

"I'll see you!" Yura called out, feeling even more giddy about everything that was going on with her life right now.

"Holy cow she got in?!" Sungjoon gasped.

"I'm not joking, Yura really got in!" Youngkwang repeated for all three guys to hear in his dorm.

"Wow, Yura is even more amazing than I thought." Woobin remarked. Jonghyun shuffled a little in his seat, feeling a little uncomfortable from what Woobin said.

"How are you sure though?" Sungjoon asked.

Youngkwang sighed in exhaustion; feeling way too tired to explain the whole thing once more, "She was the screaming banshee everyone was talking about today, plus I witnessed it when I was walking on campus earlier."

"Let me remind you that you still got your crutches, so you're not exactly the definition of walking right now." Woobin snickered.

"Shut it before I shove this up your !" Youngkwang jokingly threatened, lifting one of his crutches up and pointing it towards Woobin.

"What's got your in a twist Jonghyun?" Sungjoon asked.

"Nothing." He grunted.

Woobin is into Yura? No way...Jonghyun couldn't help but think of all the scenarios when Woobin and Yura were together. Yes, it is obvious that the two are close friends, but they wouldn't become closer. Would they? This is too frustrating. Never had Jonghyun fall for a girl faster than the speed of light. It's only been a little over two months, yet he's so infatuated with her, it would even make Cupid barf. This was not the Hong Jonghyun way. The Hong Jonghyun way is to know a girl for a few months, see if he would like to take her out, and perhaps go on from here. But nope, Jonghyun's heart and soul is skipping all those steps and heading straight towards the wedding aisle, and this could not frustrate him even more.

"This calls for a celebration!" Sojin cheered.

All four girls were sitting together on the floor of Yura's and Minah's dorm room. Somehow all in sweat pants and sweaters, they unanimously agreed that girls' night should take place in honor of Yura's accomplishment. Well, not unanimous per say...more like 3/4 girls.

"Thank god it's Friday, or else I'd be doing work right now." Hyeri moaned as she laid down on the carpeted ground.

"We should order fried chicken! I have coupons!" Minah grinned.

"Guys this is honestly too much!" Yura shook her head. It really was. After the hype died down, "reality" began to settle into Yura. There was no way she was good enough, so what made her professor think that she should be in this showcase?

"No no no this is a huge milestone for you! You're nineteen and already taking the world by storm!" Sojin patted Yura's back.

Yura could only nod, still trying to take in everything. Maybe perhaps she did hold some talent...but if she did, she would have to harness it right away. She then promised to herself that from now on after tonight, she would work twice as hard so she could feel deserved to be a part of the showcase.

Hyeri couldn't help but notice that Yura was zoning out again whilst rubbing her hands on her jeans, a habit that the girl developed since she came here. Or maybe she had that habit back at home too? But whatever it was, it didn't make Hyeri happy at all. She made a mental note to look more into Yura's habits after dinner.

"You guys want to order now, it's almost 6:30!" Minah complained, rubbing her stomach from all the growling it's done.

"Minah's right, we should order now because it's going to take awhile for the chicken to get here." Sojin said whilst grabbing her cell phone.

As Minah and Sojin were handling orders, Hyeri couldn't help but look back at Yura. Biting her lip in hesitation, she thought about asking Yura her question. After a few seconds, she went ahead with it.

"Hey Yura, has anything been bothering you lately?" Hyeri asked.

Yura looked at her in shock, "No...why?"

Hyeri frowned from her response, "Nothing. You know we're all always here for you Yura."

"Yeah I know." Yura was confused as to why Hyeri was asking all of these questions.

"Okay." Hyeri quickly looked away, cursing at herself for how bad and painfully awkward that went.

Yura shrugged her shoulders. Scooting over to Sojin and Minah, she joined their call asking for extra spicy chicken.

"Hey Yura just texted me that they're not coming to dinner tonight. Girls' night." Woobin said as he was reading Yura's text.

Jonghyun didn't like the fact that Woobin was practically her messenger. If he was her messenger, he wouldn't mind talking more to his friends just for her. Wait what? Jonghyun shook his head, knowing that he was practically going crazy by now.

"Well what are we going to do tonight? They're always the ones to find good places to eat." Sungjoon sighed.

"We could order fried chicken." Youngkwang suggested.

"Not a bad idea Kim, not bad at all. Are you guys all up for it?" Sungjoon grinned.

Jonghyun shrugged, Woobin nodded, and Youngkwang gave him a thumbs up. With that, Sungjoon grabbed his cell phone and dialed for his favorite fried chicken place.

"So Jonghyun..what do you think of Yura getting into that showcase?" Woobin elbowed Jonghyun.

"Impressive." He grunted.

Woobin frowned, "Oh come on! How come whenever you speak to us, you barely utter a word. With Yura, you're like a talking machine!"

Jonghyun stiffened a little, not knowing how to respond to Woobin's keen observation skills.

"He's right, you're a lot more talkative with Yura...you don't happen to have a little something something for our friend do you?" Youngkwang snickered evily.

Jonghyun didn't say a word. But his ears definitely did, glowing a bright red which gave his friends their answer.

"He does!" Woobin shouted, almost jumping out of his chair.

"Shut it! I'm still ordering here!" Sungjoon scolded his friends.

"Hey the chicken is here!" Minah exclaimed, her phone vibrating from the text she just received.

Yura stood up and grabbed her shoes, "I'll go get it! It's the least I can do for you guys."

Sojin shook her head, "It's nothing! We got it covered! Now because we paid for you, you better eat well okay?" She jokingly threatened.

"Since when do I not eat well Sojin." Yura laughed as she exited the dorm.

"She's got a point. She always eats well." Hyeri pointed out.

"Jonghyun, chicken is here." Sungjoon said.

"And?" Jonghyun asked.

"Go get it." Sungjoon responded.

"Why me?" Jonghyun asked irritatingly.

"I'm too lazy." Sungjoon sighed, stretching his legs out and placing them on his desk.

"...fine." Jonghyun grunted and made his way out of the room.

"I have two orders here, are you Bang Minah?" The delivery guy asked Yura.

"No, but I'm her roommate!" Yura explained.

"Good enough. Here you go." The guy handed her four large boxes.

"Yura?"

Yura turned around, almost dropping the boxes in the process, to see Jonghyun standing near the entrance with a handful of money.

"You decided to have a girls' night too?" Yura laughed.

Jonghyun paid the delivery guy and took Sungjoon's order, which consisted of two boxes. This didn't surprise him since the girls had much bigger appetites than the guys.

"Not exactly, but it's something similar." He joked with her.

Jonghyun telling a joke? Oh she has to stick around more for this. Yura grinned, "Oh really? Doing each other's hair and makeup?"

"Honestly, the guys could use some." He remarked. Even his behavior surprised Jonghyun. He was joking around, being funny, and actually holding a proper conversation.

"You're so mean to them." She laughed out loud from his remark.

"Not enough." He said with a small smile.

Opening the elevator door, he allowed her to go first like any gentleman would. As the doors closed, he took a quick look at Yura. Although the elevator provided horrible lighting and almost white washed her face, she still looked immensely beautiful. Jonghyun then concluded that Yura would look amazing in anything, regardless of the photography conditions.

"You want to exchange phone numbers?" Yura asked, oddly feeling quite brave tonight.

"Oh, um sure." Jonghyun almost stuttered.

Once the two were able to exchange numbers whilst juggling the boxes at the same time, they both leaned back feeling bliss.

"I'll see you later." Yura smiled at Jonghyun as she exited the elevator.

Once the doors closed, Jonghyun let out the biggest sigh he had ever let out.

"She's going to be the death of me one day."
