What Does The Fox Say
Office Roses
My work place has turned into a rollercoaster. However, I’m not getting any enjoyment from it.
Every time Miss Moon spoke to me, my heart would jump so high, it would choke me so I could never speak to her normally. Whenever she touched my hand, to show me how to use a specific programme, my stomach would twist so hard it felt like I jumped out of the office window. Each contact with Miss Moon, I would become so anxious and exhilarated, I would be breathless. Even if I get through this probation period with my work, I don’t know I’m going to survive because it feels like I’m going to get a heart attack within the first month.
“Miss Jung.”
I snap out of my daze. Miss Moon is staring at me, expecting.
“The report?”
“Oh yes! It’s here.” I literally throw it at her. I’m far too jumpy for my liking.
She laughs softly. “Thank you.”
I bow and take my leave. However, my hands go immediately to my burning cheeks, mentally screaming at my behaviour. Why couldn’t I just like a normal person around her?
Sitting at my desk, I manage to calm myself down. However, I find myself glancing at Miss Moon as she types away at her desktop. What I would give to be that desktop, to be the focus of all her attention. Then again, I’m sure I would frazzle if that was me.
“Wheein.”
I shift and look over the desk separator. Hani grins, her lips making her nostrils curl. It’s a different curve to Miss Moon’s, which is more adorable. Hani’s smile, for some reason, reminds me of a fox.
“Want to have lunch together?”
This is the first time Hani has invited me to eat with her since starting this job, and it’s been almost two weeks now. Even though we greet each other, we don’t particularly have anything to talk about. Although, I do notice times when I’m with Miss Moon, or she’s next to me, I sometimes catch Hani’s eye. It’s brief, and maybe me being paranoid, but I think she also likes Miss Moon too. This also makes me a bit cautious around her.
Nevertheless, I don’t want to appear rude, especially as she’s being the more assertive one.
“Sure.” I reply. I’ll just meet Hyejin after work.
To say the lunch is awkward, is an understatement. We make little small talk while we order our food, and even as we sit opposite each other, all we hear is the clinking of the cutlery. Maybe I should ask Hyejin to save me.
“So, how are you liking the company?” Hani asks.
“I’m enjoying it.” I answer. “It’s my first job so it’s a bit challenging getting used to it, but I’ve had a lot of help.”
“Yes, from Miss Moon.”
Even with the sweet tone, I can tell she said that with an edge. She’s smiling, but her eyes are sharp. I’m thankful the cafeteria knives are only plastic.
“She’s been very helpful.” I say, doing my best not to antagonise Hani. Who knows what she’s thinking.
“Miss Moon is nice.” Hani admits. “Maybe too nice.”
If curiosity killed the cat, then I’m damn lucky not to be a cat.
“What do you mean?” I question.
“I mean, she can be a bit too nice. Taking people out to dinner, to drinks… to her place.”
I see where she’s going. Hyejin said something familiar. However, I really can’t see Miss Moon being like that. There has been no occasion where I felt uncomfortable – except from when my heart has been beating too hard against my ribs.
Speaking of the devil, Miss Moon walks into the canteen. However, she’s not alone. Next to her is another stunning woman, dressed in a sl
