Feeling Feelings Without Feelings

Description

19-year-old Do Kyungsoo had been living with alexithymia - the inability to identify and describe emotions in the self - for as long as he could remember. It never really bothered him that he was 'different' from others despite the strange looks he'd get from them upon explaining his condition.

Then came his best friend, Im Rae Ha - the girl that felt everything, mainly because she was an empath. Kyungsoo couldn't quite understand it, of course. How could someone feel that much emotion? Kyungsoo had always known that his condition could be treated but with little resources, he didn't exactly try to make that happen. He figured he was fine not knowing how to properly feel although there was one thing that made him curious - love.

"It sounds so powerful. I mean, isn't it the connector of all emotions? When you're in love, you feel everything else, am I right or have the movies fooled me?" - Kyungsoo

"Nope, you're right - well, sort of." - Rae Ha

Foreword

"Tell you what; I'll teach you," Rae Ha said through the phone, her tone bright.

"You'll teach me?" Kyungsoo repeated questionably, wondering how such a thing would even be possible. From what he knew, love couldn't be taught. It was something one would develop - a process he'd never be able to go through.

"Love can be defined in so many ways - it doesn't only revolve around feelings, you know? Actions play a part too," Rae Ha paused, going into deep thought for a second or two. "How about this? For the next 6 months, let's date. We'll see if there's room for love in that heart of yours, and in the process of it all, perhaps you could learn about other emotions too. Also, you wanted to know more about empaths right?"

Kyungsoo went silent momentarily, processing her words in his mind. He wasn't actually that desperate, just simply curious. Then again, he didn't see anything wrong with his best friend's offer either.

"Okay," he said, breaking the silence. He could hear Rae Ha clasping her hand and imagined a smile on her face as she did that.

"Well then, Do Kyungsoo. Starting from tomorrow, we're a couple."

Kyungsoo hummed, unsure of how he should respond to that. Making a wild guess, he said, "I love you?"

Rae Ha chuckled, ignoring the skip in her heartbeat hearing those three words escape his lips. "Oh no honey, that's too soon."
