Why I Left Kpop

Description

I’m sorry you don’t need to read this, but this is a rant about how I used to adore kpop, but now...the door is closing. You can read it and tell me your own thoughts about it, I won’t judge you., but...

The Beginning

Kpop is seriously starting to piss me off. I was a fan of Kpop ever since the drama Boys over Flowers...so about 2009 and I fell in love. Around this time groups like Super Junior, Kara, Wonder Girls, Beast, Big Bang and SNSD were famous. At the same time  time there was one girl group that debuted with the name of 2NE1 that immediately captured my eye because their sound was completely different than the other girl groups (but I still loved the other groups too) I just loved everything about kpop from the variety shows to the music to the dance. It was amazing, I remember me learning dance moves. I could dance to Shinee- ring ding dong to Kara’s Mister and Step it Up song. One thing I really loved about it was the respect. Groups respected one another and the respect that they had for their seniors it was just Amazing....it was to the point that you needed to look up the person they were talking about in order to understand like Super Junior and BoA or Big Bang and Jinusean...the list goes on. To love one group you had to love all. Fans were much more respectful too unless there was a dating scandal or something an example would be Eunkyuk and IU scandal, but it wasn’t as bad as Baekhyun and Taeyeons dating scandal.

Kpop now

Kpop now....first off let’s talk about how their music all sound the same now. Back around those days where I was interested in kpop each group had a different sound. Wonder Girls were Retro, SNSD had a girly feel to them and completely cutesy, 4Minute was dance pop, Shinee originally came out with a pop r&B feel with “Noona neomo yeppo “ 2NE1 had a hiphop feel and for beast and Kara- I don’t even know what to classify them as. Kpop now, they literally all sound alike to me. Let me give you an example for example BTS, Monsta X, NCT127- their music all sounds the same to me just with different voices. Next for the girlgroups - Twice, Pristine,  they have the same music style. Oh and Gfriend and Lovelyz...they too have the same music style, but let’s get over how their music sound the same. Let’s talk about the fans. The fans are ignorant. Fans are disrespectful....extremely disrespectful. They only go crazy about the newer generation groups and Don’t pay attention to the older groups. You can CLEARLY see that in the rp community. The sad part is the newer fans are clearly hating on the seniors...which is again disrespectful. Recently Se7en finally got on TV after sooooooo long reading the comments more than half of the comment were just HATE comments when he clearly didn’t do anything. All he did was smile and talk about his life now. Today, while I was on Facebook, I saw that there was a new article about CL- so of course I clicked it and reading the comments....I was getting agitated and furious by the second. There was this one comment that even said “this better wait until BTS takes over” I just wanted to scream I HOPE YOU NEW KPOPERS KNOW THAT KPOP WOULDNT HAVE BEEN BIG WITHOUT THE OLDER GROUPS! These new groups are just getting the benefits of all the hardwork and training from the older groups. How do you think kpop got so big?

Hate on American music ?
I also really don’t like how people start to hate on American music and artist because hello!!! KOREAN POP MUSIC IS HEAVILY BASED ON WESTERN MUSIC - so what the hell is the point of talking trash about it?
There are amazingly good artist here too like Tori Kelly and Chance the Rapper who stands up for the unjust and gives money back into the community. You know Chance the Rapper even help save SoundCloud for future artist who wants to put out their music. Then there’s Rihanna who went into a foreign 3rd world country to help girls get their education. She also stands up for all the independent women out there. Next is Ariana Grande with the shining vocals and stands up with Women injustice.
So I don’t get why people are demonizing a person becoming Americanized in a kpop culture. There’s fans out there who turns their back on artist like CL just because they became “Americanized.” What’s wrong with being Americanized? The word Americanized is an over generalized word because there’s many types of people here in America. There’s many different styles here too. I get it yes artist here show their bad side but do you honestly think all kpop stars are actually angel like as they seem. If you do, you might need to re-evaluate your life or better yet go watch Demi Lovatos YouTube documentary. Why Demi Lovato? Because Demi also was supposed to be the “good perfect Disney child” who always put up a smile in front of the camera and did good things and she tricked me too. I thought she was just the greatest angel-like person ever until I watched the documentary. She literally confessed that she did drugs and drank a lot... She said it only got worse when she became a star. She stopped and she’s clean now, but it’s the fact that she did it and hid behind a smile on tv. Stars can deceive you. So I want people to stop demonizing American artist just because they are real. I think today is the day I stop with kpop and just go to Latino music instead.

"I hope you new kpopers know that kpop wouldn't have been big without the older groups. These new groups are just getting the benefits of all the hardwork and training from the older groups"
*Hand Claps* YEEEEEES!!! Groups like Exo, Bts, Twice and etc are, but yet their cocky fans give no respect or though about hot they got known. From the beginning kpop wasn't really that big until these people like Lee Hyorin, BoA, Super Junior, WG, Big Bang, 2NE! and all the others help spread kpop. And there's those occasional fans like BTS's army that are saying that they got famous on their own through social media, but come on....not really. In order to get to BTS's videos you needed to have SOME knowledge on kpop.

you made some really good points in this rant although i don’t agree. music styles changed because times have changed. you were state the fact that kpop is extremely influenced by western music so it’s only fair that kpop’s music style changed when western music did.

and about the dating situations- that has nothing to do with new kpop generations in my opinion LOL. it’s just i feel like exo was extremely popular at the time and exo has a lot of crazy fans. it’s just the matter of popularity and relevance to the current era. like another example is that baby vox’s member who got knives, threats, and bloody letters because she was rumored to be dating an h.o.t member. that’s even OLDER than the era of kpop you’re talking about and it’s worst than taeyeon and baekhyun’s.

BYE the rain thing with the armys. since bts has gotten really popular and got a lot of achievements a lot of armys are really cocky and just have no plain respect. it but LOL what can we do right.

and honestly i agree with the american music thing too. but at this point if anyone hates on american music because they’re so invested in kpop and korea culture i define them as a koreaboo lol. why? because they most likely hate it because they put korean expectations on american artists that probably has no idea what kpop is.

this was a great rant btw. i love your opinions and thoughts on kpop. some i’ve never thought of!
