I've been losing you
The Ink Slinger's Diary (Seulrene Drabble Collection)PROMPT: (Part of a Music Challenge I was unable to finish). Let the song drive you, let the feeling dictate the way of the fic.
The song is: I've been losing you (by Akira Yamaoka for the Silent Hill 3 unreleased soundtrack).
What’s it to a rainy day that calms Seulgi’s nerves? Joohyun has no idea, especially when the one with the sensitive ears is Joohyun more than the puppy that now laid curled on Seulgi’s warm lap, only shaking briefly and wiggling with fear before Seulgi lets her hands rub its fur without fear of upsetting him. It calmed him down, it made him retreat from the fear and made him close his eyes, letting the lulling raindrops drive him to slumber. With one hand firm on the steering wheel and the other one comforting the puppy, Seulgi had her two eyes planted on the wet pavement and the cloudy sky, driving along the highway unbothered but searching for the nearest stop. But she really didn’t want to stop.
Meanwhile, Joohyun wondered if she was the only one bothered by the constant rain as she saw cars zoom past them recklessly, or perhaps in a hurry not to get caught in the predicament of having to wait outside of the road for the rain to stop pelting. They, too, were in a hurry, but mostly to leave behind the city of the damned, the city full of the underground society of criminals. Which, by accident and by a strike of a bad luck, both Seulgi and Joohyun were involved in.
Until hell started to break loose and the dynamic duo made a speedy escape in the inconspicuous red van. With their necessary belongings in the back and a bag full of saved, clean money stashed under one of the seats, they took the road despite the inclement weather.
The looming threat of getting caught kept them on the road for hours now, unable to keep their eyes peeled away from any suspicious car. And yet, in reality, they were not being pursued nor held into account for any mess, as of yet. One can never be too safe with the shady ones. For a moment -- that seemed to stretch on for longer than necessary -- she thought of what could happen if they were to be caught. Thinking about stopping in the nearest gas station could be fatal even! Maybe not even be caught by the thugs but the cops they brought off, maybe not even the thugs or the cops but the very citizen watching their face in the news.
Many possibilities, too many regrets.
Then she felt a tug on her hand. When she finally looked, Seulgi’s hand searched hers and grabbed it tight the moment she found it. A tight, loving squeeze that read: ‘Don’t worry anymore, my love. We’re going to be fine.’
When Joohyun did look up at Seulgi, she was still looking at the road, then for a brief moment turned to smile at her.
‘Enjoy the ride, relax.’
With a soft smile returned, they both looked into the curvaceous road, stretching further and further away to the land of the unknown, confusing the inexperienced driver commuting for the first time and annoying those that had done this before.
Looking out at the landscape, Joohyun held Seulgi’s hand tighter. Feeling sudden relief, she melted onto the once-uncomfortable seat and watched the picturesque scenario passing them by. Then, strangely, the rain started to lull her to sleep as well.
