CHAPTER 8 - SIERRA

While Gwen was narrating her encounter with Daniel, Sierra was only half-listening. Her phone couldn’t stop buzzing that night. Her twitter feed usually gets worked up during the weekends and especially this particular weekend since most her followers (who’re mostly University students like her) have either completed the semester or have graduated by now. During the last few weeks, she has not been proactive. While Gwen and Tasha were job hunting and Amanda going for her usual part-time jobs, Sierra had been lazying around at home gaming and eating.

This is the best way to spend post-graduation right? She thought. I’m never going to be able to do this again once I get a job. I’d better be a bum now, for awhile longer before adulting beckons.

With this no-plan in mind in the close foreseeable future, Sierra continues her Overwatch gaming, rising up the ranks during the season’s Competitive Play to gain rewards for her next team raid. She heard the bit about Gwen’s kiss at the end of Gwen’s story (since the word ‘kiss’ got her ears all perky) but wasn’t able to digest what had happened beforehand. She was too absorbed in replying personal tweet messages from @wjskkk.

“Why haven’t we met yet?” @wjskkk asks.

“Why’re you so curious? Why should we even meet?” Sierra eggs him on.

“Why’re you answering my question with another question?” @wjskkk teases.

“Why not? Why cant I? This is my phone I can do what I bloody well want.” Sierra couldn’t help but smile. Is this considered flirting, she wondered.

“Why can’t you just answer my question?” @wjskkk sounded impatient.

“Why should I? I’m not obliged to.” Sierra wanted to see how far this could go.

“Why are you being sucha tease? Why can’t we meet and get this over and done with?” @wjskkk then inserts a palm-together pleading emoticon.

“Why must I cater to what you want? What about what I want?” Sierra was having so much fun.

“Are you testing me? Coz I can do this all day!” @wjskkk challenges.

Sierra couldn’t help but giggle to herself but as soon as she looked up, Amanda was standing over her talking about a book purchase or rather and suddenly notices that JaeBeom and Mark had left.

“Wait, you’re leaving too?” Sierra leaves @wjskkk on read and jumps up from her seat. “Imma go too. Let me text Tasha to tell her I’m leaving.” She her head sideways and sees Gwen and Tasha still deep in conversation. Not wanting to interrupt them, she texts Tasha and hurriedly leaves.

“Where’re you going?” Amanda asks as she suddenly stops to see Sierra rushing out the door.

“Imma… go do some laundry.” Sierra lied. Well it’s not an actual lie, it’s half true. I’m going to do laundry, but I’m also hoping… to see if he’s gonna be there.

Sierra slips her dainty feet into her Ipanema slippers and jogs to the elevator. She presses 11 as soon as the door opens. She pulls her phone out of her pocket and opens Twitter.

“Why can’t a busy person like me be left in peace to do laundry?” She replies @wjskkk in hopes he reads between the lines and comes to see her.

Sierra made extra effort that night to look presentable for her ‘possible meet up’ with a certain twitter user. She ditched her usual jammie shorts and oversized t-shirt for denim destroyed shorts and a tank top. She combed her hair an extra 20 times and dabbed some powder on before she carried her canvas laundry bag towards the front door. She made sure to put on her ‘smart-looking’ round framed glasses and the half-moon necklace the Lahlings bought for her birthday last year. She checked herself in the hallway mirror before she left, hhhmm I’m not trying too hard am I? She rolled her eyes at herself, slipped into a pair of ballet flats and walked out the door.

Few minutes later at the Laundromat, Sierra arrives and was happy to see that it was empty. It was a 24-hour establishment so she didn’t forget to pack a book in her laundry bag so her 3 hour wait won’t be a waste. She was half expecting him to be there but thought that maybe her message didn’t really mean anything to someone who didn’t know her well. She checks her phone again, no replies from @wjskkk.

Wait, he did say his name was JK, right? I have to remember that.

Since she was alone at the Laundromat and it was late, she had texted the Lahlings to say she was doing her laundry and that she wouldn’t take too long since her load was not that heavy. She conveniently left out the real reason why she was there. She felt guilty for not keeping the girls informed but she didn’t want to seem like a weirdo meeting people off social media. She shook her head and thought that she was thinking too much about the situation so she decided to just go on with her chores as usual.

He might not even turn up, who knows.

She popped the hood of the washer and loaded in her colored clothing; she loaded in the coins and detergent and pressed the Start button. She walks back to the bench, hooks her wireless headphones into her ears and starts reading. She pulls her legs up and snuggles into a comfortable position.

Half an hour later, as Sierra is immersed in the story of her new book that she did not notice a group of 3 guys, who looked ostensibly like students, walk in with bags of laundry. They were rowdy and boisterous. It was 10.30pm when Sierra last checked her phone minutes ago and when she looks up, she sees a guy walking towards her smiling, as if satisfied with himself.

“I was right. You’re here.” His smile showcased his perfectly straight teeth. He sat himself on the bench next to her while slinging his laundry bag over his shoulder. His crew of rowdy boys were on the other end of the Laundromat helping themselves with the washers.

“I’m going to guess… Skylar right?” @wjskkk or aka. JK raises his eyebrows.

“Yes, JK, that’s my Overwatch handle.” Sierra grins and pulls out her headphones, pleased that he managed to read her message as how she had intended it. She took a good look at him. To say he was cute was an understatement. He was HOT. Yes, that would be the best way to describe him.

Sierra bit her lip and tried to hide her excitement from having met a hot guy through Twitter/Overwatch. She

Chapter 12: I am shooked at how that escalated quickly. But dood who was that guy Gwen kissed? Oh gosh Gwen with 3 potential love interest, Sierra with Jinyoung and JK, Amanda with her broken heart and Namjoon, Tasha with MIA-ed ‘HUSBAND’. This story getting twisted but in all the good ways.

And yes please do anything (which includes getting the boys to be involved) to settle this mess. It’s normal to fight amongst bffs but dang this fight might be a bit too much
