Description

A story in which Jeon Jungkook and Kim Taehyung meet on a different occasion.

Foreword

The moon hung high on the warmer autumn night. A few stars twinkled in the sky, the rest hidden from view for it was still early. A tall apartment building rose high up into the sky, its rooftop giving it the illusion that it could touch the sky. Just outside the buildings front doors stood a rather short looking man.

He ruffled his red-brown hair, and glared down at his cellphone. He had just finished night school, and was rather upset that his biology partner was messaging him excuses as to why he could not participate in the project that they had been assigned. “Go to Hell.” He muttered, shoving the item into the bottom of his school bag.

He had had enough of the excuses. Every time a project would appear in any of his classes, his lazy partners would send him excuses every single hour. “Why can’t you all just ing participate for once? It won’t kill you to actually do work for once.” He shook his head, wanting to clear his mind of all negative thoughts. It was their education that was on the line, for all of the man’s teachers knew for a fact that no one ever helped him with the projects. He would always acquire the A, while his partners would receive the biggest F.

He readjusted his bag on his shoulder, and opened the apartment buildings doors. The lobby was empty. He had always arrived home earlier, so he would always see some of the other residents sitting around on the lobby chairs, or chatting by the front desk. Since it was later in the night, every crevice was deserted. Not one person was up to make a single sound, or great the man as he entered the building.

The man would not have said that it was a bad change. In fact, he enjoyed the silence that lay blanketed on the building. That had been all he needed to calm himself. If he would have had to speak to anyone, then it would have just increased his terrible mood, and most definitely would have spread it to anyone that he would have come into contact with.

He heaved a small sigh, and walked through the empty lobby. It was kind of eerie for him, as the apartment building alone was always noisy, yet it was rather silent now. The only sound that the man heard was the sound of his own footsteps, along with his heartbeat. He could have sworn that he had heard yet another pair of footsteps, but he waved it off. “I’m only paranoid.” He voiced, chuckling uneasily for a moment.

He turned a corner, and walked towards the first flight of stairs. Before he even thought of returning back to his apartment, he was going to visit the rooftop. It had turned into a tradition for him. Every single time he returned home, he would go up to the rooftop, and just look out at the stars twinkling over the city. If he had had photography that day, he would even take a couple pictures of the scenery.

Just the thought of being able to see his own view of the city excited him. Every day when he would be awoken from his sleep by his alarm, he would be excited to return home, and be able to see the breathtaking view. From time to time, he would even be able to see one of his neighbors returning from his work. That, was what he loved the most. Being able to see the blonde man walking through the puddles, the stars in the sky being reflected in the water. He had taken a couple pictures of the man as well.

His gaze flickered around the staircase, for he could hear the same footsteps once again. His heart began to pound against his ribcage in fear. He hated the thought that he was not the only one roaming around the building so late. He inhaled sharply, and continued up the second flight of stairs. This time he picked up his pace, hoping that whoever it was, was not going to catch him.

Just as he reached the third flight of stairs, he could hear a slight grunting coming from behind him. He flung the third floor door open, and ran across the hallway. He was lucky enough that it had been his floor that he had been on, for if not, the thing would have gotten him. He hid unlocked his door, and flung the door open. With a shaky breath, and shut, and locked it once more.

His heartbeat continued to beat wildly in his chest, and he slowly began to quiver. He had never been more frightened in his life.

The following days seemed to be less eerie. The man returned home at a decent hour, and never heard the grunts or extra footsteps after that. He even got the courage to visit the rooftop, which was where he was currently.

The man’s gaze was locked on the sky above. It had been growing darker every single night, which –to his enjoyment- brought more and more stars out. A sigh of content left his lips at the sight of the stars above. He had missed being able to see the stars, and now that he could actually see them, he felt very content.

A small alarm blared from his wrist watch, reminding him that he did have to leave. If he never would have set an alarm, he would never have left the rooftop. From time to time he would forget to turn on his alarm, and would spend nearly the entire night outside. Those nights always left him extremely tired that he could never feel awake when his morning classes came around.

He pushed open the rooftops door, and descended the staircase. It was no trouble at all to get to his floor, for the building was not nearly as large on the inside as it was on the outside. It consisted of four floors, which allowed him to only have to descend one flight of stairs before he met his own floor.

He stopped just outside the wooden door, and looked back down the flight of stairs that he would have to walk down the next morning. The hair on the back of his neck stood up as he could have sworn that he heard a small noise coming from the stairwell. He continued to stand there trying his best to locate what could have possibly made the noise. He heard it again, this time by his left sneaker.

His gaze dropped down, and he was instantly met with the returning gaze of a small mouse. A small chuckle bubbled out of his mouth at the sight. “How could I have been afraid of you, little guy?” He asked it, chuckling once more. “You are not nearly as frightening as I thought you were going to be.”

The man slowly knelt down, and picked the small creature up. He slowly behind its ears, laughing as he did so. “I feel so childish now.” He murmured, pouting at the creature. “I was afraid by a tiny mouse.” He still could not wrap his mind about why he was still afraid. He normally had trouble when it came to getting scared. He would spend hours on end reading horror stories, watching horror films, and attending horror film festivals. However, nothing every scared him, that is, not until the night that had recently passed not to long again. Ever since then, he had been jumping out of his skin.

“Well, I best be going.” He whispered, setting the mouse down whilst doing so. “You take care of yourself now. Make sure you stay away from everyone that may be afraid of you. You do not want to be killed now.” With enough said, and opened the third floor door and shut it in his wake.

The floor looked different compared to every other day. One of the light bulbs must have broken that very day, for it was not lit. He only shrugged it off. He did not quite mind the light being off. He found the dark peaceful, so it did not bother him in the least.

He walked passed the many residence doors until he reached his own. Using his left hand, he dug through his school bag, fingers searching for his keychain. When he could not find it, he brought his bag closer to his face, and began to dig so he could see. He moved his school books aside, and searched at the very bottom. Once he seen the familiar green frog keychain he knew that he had found his keys.

He plucked his keys up and out of his bag. Just as he turned to unlock his door, a black blur came running at him. In freight, he tossed his keys at the blur, heart beginning to pound. “There’s nothing in there of interest, but there you go!” His body began to quiver as he watched as the once was blur –which was really a man- unlocked his residence door and ran inside.

He continued to stand out in the hallway, gaze glued to the man that was now in his home. He could not believe that  anyone would want to steal anything from him. He was only a college student that barely made much money, so the trinkets that he had around his place was not that expensive.

He turned away from his home and slowly began to walk away. He wanted to get away as quietly as possible, just in case the person was going to murder him if he made a sound. He stopped walking, however, once he seen the flash of light seeping out into the hallway from his open doorway. He turned around, and looked into the place confused as to why the person would risk their identity being exposed for just a little bit of light.

It was when he seen the man, that his eyes widened. There doubled over by the light switch stood the man that the brunette had been admiring for weeks on end. He was appalled that someone as innocent as the blonde would want to rob anyone.

“Thank you so much. I appreciate your gesture a lot.” The blonde murmured, stopping his words here and there to take a breath. He pushed himself off of the wall, and sent the brunette a box smile. “I’m Taehyung. Kim Taehyung.” He reached a hand out, awaiting for the shorter boy to shake his hand.

“What the Hell? You run at me, take my keys, and go into my apartment, just to greet me? That makes so ing sense whatsoever.”

“Ah, I see you probably thought that I was some creepy weirdo that wanted to rob you. Well, lucky for us both, I’m not.”

“Then please enlighten me, why the Hell were you running at me?!”

The blonde stood stock still, eyes searching the hallway for something. He reached a hand out, and pulled the brunette in so they were standing side by side. With a shaky hand he shut the door, and quickly locked it. “First off, I couldn’t see you. I had no idea that you were even in the hallway. Second off, I was running because I’m afraid of the dark.” The blonde’s head hung low as he confessed. He felt extremely stupid at his fear, and felt even worse that he was speaking it aloud.

“You are afraid of the dark?” The brunette’s eyebrows furrowed at the thought that someone older than them had such a childish fear. He could not believe that he had actually looked up at the blonde, especially hearing that his largest fear, was in fact, the dark.

“It’s not my fault. It just scares me. The thought that something could reach out at any moment, along with the fact that I can hardly see really makes me nervous.”

“That’s understandable I guess.” The brunette gently patted the other man’s back, hoping his gesture was comforting the other. “Next time, don’t run down the hallway. If it were anyone else, you would be dead by now.” He chuckled at the thought. “Now, would you like some tea? It’s very calming when you are nervous.” He waited for a response, only to get a small nod. “Come now.” He began. “I’m afraid of things as well. Just a couple nights ago I could have sworn that I heard a noise or two coming from just behind me and-”

“So you were that man! Honestly, I had no idea who you were! I knew that we lived on the same floor, which is why I was following you. I was so tired, that my train of thought went all wacko. I could not even remember which floor I was on, so seeing you I knew that I could get back to my floor.”

The brunette stood in silence, nodding his head at the explanation. “Next time, clear your throat or something. I would have been fine helping you, but hearing the noises you made without getting a simple greeting nearly gave me a heart attack.”

The blonde giggled a little at the brunette. “Will do. As for the next time you throw your keys at someone, make sure you don’t hit them in the head. That hurts so much.” He followed the brunette into the kitchen, and helped prepare the tea that they had been so ready to drink.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you Taehyung. I do not know if you knew already, but I’m Jungkook.”

“I’ve heard of you before. The old women that lives next to me constantly talk about a Jeon Jungkook. They constantly say that you are the cutest thing. In all honesty, I believe that they are correct. You are quite a cutie.”

“Just drink your tea.” Jungkook’s cheeks burned a dark red. He had always hoped that he could get such a comment from someone that he adored, and the fact that he did pleased him. “You’re not so bad yourself.” He quietly added, smiling as he watched the other man’s eye widen.

“Why thank you Mr. Jeon. It is such a pleasure to gain a-”

“Oh, shut up you idiot. There’s no need to act like that.” The brunette slapped the blonde lightly, not even trying to hide the smile that made its way onto his features.

“I hope that we can meet once again, Jungkook.” Taehyung placed his cup onto the counter, and pressed a light kiss onto the latter’s cheek. “Until then, I bid you a goodnight.”
