The beeping of an alarm clock resounded in the silent room. With a grunt, Kim Yongsun awoke from her nap, her hand grabbing towards the bedside table to get rid of the annoying sound. She sighed when her finger swiped the screen of her phone, effectively having a silent room once more. Fluttering her eyes open, they met the ceiling, where glow-in-the-dark stars were stuck there.   “Are you going to buy those?” Yongsun pointed at the glow-in-the-dark stars in the younger girl’s basket.   “Yeah, they look cute. Like me.”   Yongsun narrowed her eyes. “Yah, Moon Byul Yi, are you reaching another level of narcissism? Just because you have “star” on your name?”   “Yongsun-unnie, my father named me Byul because he knew that her daughter will find the perfect glow-in-the-dark stars for his star – me. By the way, that’s Moon Byul E for you.”   Scoffing at the cocky tone, especially the stressed E on her answer, Yongsun left the younger girl alone, who was cackling at her annoyed expression.   Yongsun sat up, scratching the side of her neck. She stretched, feeling the tank top stretch against her skin. The tank top was too small for her voluptuous body, but she didn’t care. It’s almost two full years, and it’s what she had been wearing every Saturday.   #   After her shower, Yongsun wore a casual top for her rider pants. It doesn’t matter what she wore, she will wear a jacket on top of it anyway. Her jacket.   Yongsun sighed, looking at her reflection in the mirror while brushing her dark brown hair. She would have to apply some makeup to cover those puffy eyes.   When she was finished, Yongsun grabbed the jacket and gloves, not forgetting to grab the keys and helmet on her way out. They were all midnight blue – not exactly a stand-out color, especially for riding gears.   “Why are all your things in blue?”   “It’s my favorite color. They look cool too.”   “That wink was unnecessary, Byul,” Yongsun deadpanned, but hopped onto the backseat nevertheless.   After making sure the door was locked, Yongsun made her way to the basement, where the gray Kawasaki Ninja 1000 was parked. It was the only thing Byulyi owned that was not in midnight blue. With a start, the engine roared to life, greeting her. After fastening her helmet, she hopped onto the seat. What used to be foreign to her became a second nature; it only took her a second to grip on the clutch, switched the gear, and throttled the motorcycle to the streets.   The day was February 21st and Kim Yongsun had one place to go.   #   Almost half an hour later Yongsun had arrived on the hill, one hand holding a plastic bag. She made a stop in a convenience store, buying the same thing every time she visited the place – a bottled water and a can of beer.   After a short hike, she reached the bench and took a seat there. Without a word, she opened the beer and put it beside her, doing the same thing with the bottled water. She then took a huge breath and gazed upon the city view in front of her.   “Yongsun-unnie.”   “Hmm?” Yongsun took a sip from the can of beer, wincing from the burn in .   “Are you sure you don’t have anywhere to go?”   “Why? Do you have to go somewhere?”   Byulyi shrugged. “Not really, but shouldn’t you?”   “I don’t really make plans this time of year.”   Byulyi hummed, letting her question linger in her mind. She let comfortable silence engulf them while looking at the city view.   “Byul-ah.” Yongsun broke the silence a moment later.   “Yes, Unnie?”   “Are you sure you don’t want to take a sip?” she gestured at her can of beer.   Byulyi smiled, “I’m okay, Unnie. I have this guy right here instead,” she lifted her bottled water.   “I even picked your favorite brand so we can share…” Yongsun pouted.   “Unnie, you know I have to drive us back home,” Byulyi grinned, pinching Yongsun’s cheek. They were only one year apart but the latter could pass of as her younger sister instead with the way she acts.   Swatting the pinching fingers away from her face, Yongsun playfully smacked Byulyi’s arm, secretly enjoying the way the latter winced in pain. She rubbed said arm and hugged it against her body instead, hoping that Byulyi passed it off as her apology. She always does, but she found it necessary to do so every single time.   As expected, Byulyi pulled off from her hold, pulling their bodies flush against each other instead with said arm. Yongsun took it as a sign to lean her head on the slope between the younger’s neck and jaw, finding her warmth there.   “We can still make it to your surprise party.”   Yongsun hummed in response, knowing of Wheein’s so-called secret plan since a week prior.   “You have thirty minutes until your phone explodes with Hyejin’s rants.”   Yongsun smiled at that, knowing how protective Ahn Hyejin was toward her childhood friend. She lifted her head away from Byulyi’s hold, finding the younger’s expression mirroring herself. “Well we don’t want that, do we?”   “You better practice your shocked expression, Unnie.”   “Moon Byul Yi, are you in this as well?”   Byulyi shrugged. “I might have stuck a balloon or two on your bedroom wall.”   Yongsun feigned a hurt expression. “I can’t believe you went behind my back.”   “I just don’t want to miss seeing you act surprised in front of Wheein and Hyejin.”   “Hyejin won’t buy it.”   Byulyi hummed in agreement, inching closer. “Nothing goes past that woman’s instinct.”   “I better do a good job for Wheein then.” Yongsun saw Byulyi wetting her lips, and she did the same with hers.   “You should.”   Yongsun sat in silence, letting the wind caressed her shoulder-length tresses. Winter was ending, she knew, but it still carried the cold in the breeze. She slightly shivered, grabbing the bottled water beside her. Good thing that she had warmed it before buying it. It was still slightly warm, so she took a sip.   It had been two long years. Even if her tears had run dry, she hadn’t get used to life without Moon Byul Yi. She had been spending every weekend in Byul’s apartment, wearing the clothes Byul wore, sleeping where Byul slept. She even taught herself to ride Byul’s motorcycle, taking it to a shop for monthly repair, even washing it. Byul loved her motorcycle, and Yongsun had promised to take care of it on her behalf.   She still visited the hill where Byul took her the first time. Her mood was sour since her boss sacked her with no clear explanations. As much as she hated working in that company, it was still her source of income. The moment Byul took her to this place, she knew it became their secret place; not even Wheein or Hyejin knew about it. They frequented the place, only leaving the place when it was time for a late dinner.   The hill was also the place where Byulyi kissed her the first time. It was a cool summer night and the stars were especially bright. Yongsun gladly accepted and returned the sentiment.   Since she was gone, Yongsun went to the hill every Saturday, spending her time looking at the view and the sky. She felt some kind of peace there, the kind she wouldn’t find in places she went with Byulyi. Maybe it was because cell reception was bad in that place. Or maybe it was because she shared her happiest moments with Byulyi there.   Yongsun knew it wasn’t healthy. Hyejin even said that she didn’t like how Yongsun treated Byulyi like she was dead when she was still alive somewhere. In Yongsun’s defense Byulyi leaving everything behind, even her beloved motorcycle, was the closest to her death.   It was three days after Byulyi was gone, and Yongsun started to get anxious. She decided to go to the younger’s house and see if she was there. On the basement, she found the gray motorcycle parked in the usual spot and it was a flicker of hope. Byulyi never left her home without it.   The apartment was locked, and it was expected. Yongsun fished the spare key from the mailbox and let herself in. Everything was right where they were supposed to be. When Yongsun checked the closet, Byulyi’s clothes were there. It was as if she onl

Chapter 2: Whoa this was dense but in a good way. I'm surprised by how realistic these common interactions felt, the emotions, the friction, the caring...everything really on point. Loved it.

but i love how they have these tiny petty fights. it makes sense how yongsun would want to spend so much time with byul, considering byul had disappeared for years. yongdonnie must have been so lonely :((
