Foreword
prologue
That night, the full moon blazed bright. It was a night of revelry as they all thought the crazed Human King Valgor, who has been after the Elven City of Neldortas for years now, has finally given up.
Drunk in victory and the influence of wine, they were unprepared for the sudden onslaught of arrows and burning wood hailing from over the walls. Upon closer look, they noticed the arrows were that of humans, and they were struck with the realization that what they were celebrating was for naught.
The war for the City of Neldortas was far from over.
As the soldiers, who seemed to have woken up from their wine-induced stupor, ran to the keep and afterwards to the inner city gates, people started screaming one after another, terrified as the stench of death surrounded the whole city. In the span of a few short moments, Neldortas, famous for its picturesque towers and walled houses, became engulfed in fire and destruction. The towers began to collapse one by one as the houses all caught on fire.
The elves slowly started leaving the city one by one, fear for their lives driving them away from the place they thought would be theirs forever.
Seeing their people flee in an attempt to save their lives, the cavalry attempted to do the best they could to defend the city, but the arrogance resulting from the thought that they were the superior race blinded them to their own faults, resulting to the slow onslaught of panic as they see their haphazard attempts to organize themselves crumble beneath the organized attack of the human troops.
Far beyond the massive human army, they spotted King Valgor atop his steed, eyes gleaming maniacally as he gave order after order to his soldiers to slaughter the elves and take control of the city.
Backed into a corner, one soldier started running toward the eastern gate, the only possible exit left. From then on, it was as if the floodgates were opened, and they all started to run for their lives too.
The human troops relentlessly chased them out of their city. Every single elf. Until they were driven out from a city they thought would be theirs forever. Just atop the mountain perch, they took one last glance at the city.
They prayed to the spirits, and they chose that moment to avenge them.
Just outside the city gates, King Valgor was shouting a victory cry towards his troops when an arrow sprung out of nowhere and hit him directly at the chest. Following the direction where the fatal arrow came from, they caught sight of a small army of green cloaks. Judging by their body structures, elves. And by the intricate tattoo on one side of their faces, we easily recognized them: the elusive wardens of the woods.
The shouting from the human troops escalated as they circled around in an effort to protect their king from further attacks. But another attack was unnecessary. The Human King Valgor, who successfully invaded Neldortas, did not live enough to live in the city itself. The humans attempted to give chase to the wardens of Lilh Edhil, but they were long gone.
Elves of Ahndalin too, were far away for them to reach, and they could do nothing but look at them and at their fallen king.
That morning, was like an ordinary day. What made it unusual however, was the red color of the sun that only came out if blood was spilled, the spirits’ way of telling the whole world about the unfortunate events of the night before.
It was a Red Dawn.

authors note.
For DEM
Loosely based on tolkien's epic fantasy novel, lotr and the unfinished tales, mainly the silmarillion and the tale of beren and luthien. This has been gnawing at my brain for quite a while now and its originally intended for my previous otp, kaisoo and exo, but i never really had the urge to write it, until dee convinced me to 'slip into diamond life' so here we are.. It'll be human/elvish focused so no hobbits, dwarfs and wizards. Sorry.
I've been fascinated by tolkien's version of the elves so im making my own (lame) version of them.
Its my first fic in years so im kinda nervous. Subs, upvotes and comments are greatly appreciated. Thank you and i hope you enjoy reading this.
