Joy looks at the wall clock. It is 6 a.m. She could not sleep for a single second last night. 

She was contemplating her entire life. She is the result of her father's extra-marital affair with her mother. He could not discard her. Though his legal wife did not give much damn, her only condition was not to name her a "Kim". The legal and only heir will be their only son, Kim Seokjin. Park SooYoung was allowed to live in luxury, abide by their rules and life style. Their father had allowed her some trivial property rights.

She has been a timid and obedient child with all the comforts one can ask for. She only wanted love.

Their father, when alive, kept her 'happy' with gifts and objects. Her step mom ignored her existence but then again she was almost the same with her own son. Her older half brother Seokjin has been a true gentleman. She will always love and respect her oppa who even after their father's death, took care of her.

But she just wanted out. She wanted to get away from this vanity. She never thought this would happen to her. She just wanted to be loved, to be happy.

It was her naivety. She should have been smart. Her brother scolded and restricted her, even Irene, her sister-in-law warned her. But her yearning for love was too much to pay hid to anyone else. 

She should have understood the reason behind his sudden interest in her and his fake persuation for the last 4 months. His and Irene's 'friendship' and 'bond' are no secret to anyone.  She had even asked her brother to rethink his decision to marry Irene so hastily. Because she believed Bae Joo Hyun was never in love with him. She did not want him to be hurt.

 And here she is, a hypocrite, failing to understand and giving in to feelings. She is worse than her brother and sister-in-law, may be even worse than Namjoon. 

The memory of last night emerges. It could have been forceful or pure agony but it was not. Namjoon kept his promise of not harming her physically.

She gets out of the shower and dresses up. She finds someone standing at her bedroom door.

 "Ummm...Mrs. Joy...you are supposed to be in kitchen. To get the information about your duties and also meet the other staffs." She says awkwardly.

"Aunty Noel. Why are you so awkward?! I am also one of you now. You are behaving as if you don't know me. Even yesterday you did not meet me." Joy states sadly.

"My dearest Joy! I am so sorry! I wish I had known what this awful man is up to! He has been nothing but trouble since his childhood! He will do whatever he wants. He never listens to anyone." She shakes her head sadly.

"Will-will you go to the Kim mansion today?" She asks softly.

"Yes, dear. I 'll go there. But I shall be leaving for my village today and here you are all alone!! Why don't you leave?! Why are..."

"Where, how, and then, what?" Joy smiles sadly.

Her counter questions float in the air surrounding them. There is no answer to any.

They walk silently to the kitchen to find two young girls and Joseph. Joy has seen the maids before. They are responsible for the kitchen and laundry. They bow.

"So,ummm...from now on it is Mrs. Joy's responsibility to take care of everything. She will take all the decisions here and we are supposed to teach her everything." Joseph says.

The description of her responsibilities frights her. At home she has never even wash a spoon. She gulps nervously and looks at Noel who looks at her apologically. She does not know anything but she will learn. She has to.

"....the cleaners come everyday and cleans the whole mansion." Joseph continues, "The gardens are tended by 2 men which you already know..."

A very drunk man stumbles into the kitchen. The heir of the Baes, Bae Jace. His condition must be making his parents roll in their graves. The selfish, attractive, arrogant and over-confident playboy has lost everything to alcohol and gambling after his wife's death during childbirth. He loves to blame and abuse his child for that. 

He trips and stops infront of Joy, "Ms. Park, what are you doing here at this hour?" He frowns.

"Well, Ms. Joy is now Mrs. Kim." Joseph answers for her.

He looks at her for some time and walks out of the kitchen with a bag of chips.

"Master Bae still lives here cuz he has sold 60% of the state to Joon." Joseph informs.

" Oh Joseph! She knows all these! Now get to work everyone!" Noel prompts everyone.

"Joy dear. Come, let me show you what your duties are."

Joy follows the older woman with a nervour heart.

"Come on Namyyy! Don't be such a slow poke!" Irene's short and uneven hair blows around.

"Oh yeah?! Watch this then!" Namjoon increases the paddling of his bike. They are racing to the 7/11 nearest to the Bae state and it is the best place of 'their' world. 

They race to the mart and sees the middle aged shopkeeper smiling at them. They are the most frequent customers of the place and they hang around for the longest periods.

"I WON! KYAAHH!! Loser!" Irene jumps around.

The ajhumma laughs watching this.

Namjoon huffs, "Ha.Ha.Ha. Only this time."

"No way! I win everytime! Now loser pays for the ramen! I will go and choose!" Irene skips to the section.

Namjoon smiles at her cheerfulness and turns to the ajhumma who has a knowing smile on her face.

"You always let her win."

Namjoon scratches his head embarassed, "It's nothing! It's just that when I do it, she gets so happy."

"And you love to see her happy, don't you?" She implies.

"Yes." He smiles.

"That is so sweet of you. Always thinking of her happiness.What about you?"

"Me? I'm sorry?" He is confused.

The lady shakes her head, "Dear, you are always making her happy with such efforts, even for the smallest things. What makes you happy?"

"Her happiness and smile." Namjoon smiles.

"Does YOUR  happiness and smile makes her equally happy?"

The 17 years old boy looks at her with confidence,"Yes, of course."

The lady sighs and puts her hand on his shoulder, " I really hope so."

Namjoon's eyes shot open. He switches off the alarm at 7 a.m. He gets off the bed and looks out of the window. He scans the area of the neighbouring Kim's state. He searches for the face which he was accustomed to look at. The first thing in the morning.

He feels his eyes are hurting. His hands reach for them to find tears. He is crying again. He gives out a bitter laugh. He has become so used to his own tears. He takes his towel and is about to enter the bathroom when there is a knock on the door.

He opens the door and smirks. His 'wife' is standing with his coffee.

"Oh! So, you've been instructed by Noel already! Keep it on the table. Take out my clothes and put them on the bed and stay until I come out." He orders.

She nods slowly and does what she is told.

This is supposed to be their morning routine.

Routines turn into habits. There is nothing more compelling than habits. Namjoon should have known that better.
