Wendy doesn’t know the answer. What she knows is that it’s better to set them free, because force them to be with you will bring more pain to both. She knew from the first moment, that Irene may never be hers. She accepted it. She didn’t fight fate. She didn’t fight blood. So, seeing her all giddy with Jennie didn’t come as a surprise. They were in a way, fated to be together.
“Have you heard the news?” Her siblings were gushing about the gossip. Rose lifted an eyebrow at it, and frowned when she realized it was Jennie what everyone was talking about. Wendy smiled at her sister, and beckoned to take a walk together.
Rose kept frowning, and Wendy wondered why her sister seemed so affected by it. Not even Wendy felt that way, since a long time ago she stitched her heart strongly, and it learned to heal on its own, her heart became stronger and wiser. Wendy learned to be patient and gentle with those around her. She learned to let go of the past and the what could have been’s.
Maybe her mistake with Irene was to cage the girl like a person does with a pretty bird, not realizing that the bird needs to be free, the freedom is what keeps the bird alive. She almost killed Irene with those unrequited feelings.
The Apollo leader took her guitar with her, and play a song about those lovers running away to marry. Rose giggled at the imitations of Wendy of an old man. And when the song ended, Rose felt lighter.
“Why were you sad?” Wendy asked, with a smile, putting her guitar on her shoulder. “Don’t tell me that you are an admirer of Jennie?”
Rose shook her head.
“Before you ask, I am not particularly fond of Irene”
Wendy made a mock face of surprise.
“Then, you looked sad for a moment there”
