Goodbye Summer..2
Okay. I think I was 10 years old by that time when I saw Sooyoung by the swings. She is alone so I approached her.
“Hi. I’m Sooyeon.” She didn’t answer. She just has head down. Maybe she wants someone to push her. I went to her back and pushed her but instead of her swinging with squeals of joy, she lied down on the ground with groans of pain. “Oops. Sorry.” I rushed to her and pulled her up. “What did you try to do?” She checked her arms and legs for bruises.
“I thought you wanted someone to push you.” I dusted off the dirt off her uniform.
“You pushed me too hard. You didn’t even warn me. Didn’t you see I was not holding on to the swing?”
“I said I’m sorry.” She walked away from me and went to the nearest water fountain. I followed her. She washed her hands on the fountain. Then she turned around and saw me. “What do you want?”
“You.” I flashed her a smile.
“What??”
“I want to be your friend, silly.” I gave out my right hand. “I’m Jung Sooyeon. But you can call me Jessica.”
She just stared at my hand as if I’m some kind of alien being with 8 fingers on each hand. Then finally, she shook my hand. “I’m Choi Sooyoung.”
“So…what now?”
“what what now?”
“I’m not good with these things…”
“what things?” Sooyoung sat on a bench. I sat next to her.
“these introduction and friendly thingy…”
“why are you asking me? You’re the one who approached me first.”
“yeah. I was surprised with that. It’s the first time I actually made the first move to introduce myself to someone.” She looked at me.
“You’re weird.” I looked back and gave her a glare.
“So?”
“I like you.” She smiled. And woah…I never thought a girl would beat my own smile.
Okaaaay. Back to present time. I got tired from standing up so I sat on a nearby bench. I thought I could get away that easy from that girl, I guess I’m wrong. She followed me and sat next to me. Is this déjà vu? But this time she’s the one pestering me. Anyway, after that faithful meeting one Monday morning, we were inseparable.
