Chapter 3.
Make Me Love YouWait... let me see if I understand. You're telling me that your job is to do vlogs about books, TV shows, and movies?” Tiffany asked the new girl when everyone was in the dorm together, having dinner in the living room.
“Yes, I do reviews for those types of media; that's why I'm always watching TV and all.”
“She also does it for games, right, Tae?” Sunny added. Taeyeon nodded.
Tiffany wasn't thrilled. “Are you really telling me that people pay you to be a hobo?”
“I'm not a hobo. I have a job. My job is to provide reviews for people interested in those media.”
“That's ridiculous!” Tiffany stated flatly.
“Nah, you're just jealous that I get money working at home,” Taeyeon smirked, making Tiffany tap her feet on the floor, displeased by her remark. She was jealous, indeed. “So now, I'm trying VR and writing notes and reviews about it.”
“That's so cool, unnie!” Yoona cheered. “So you're kinda famous, right?”
“Not so much. I have some loyal followers on my channels and vlogs, but I'm not super popular. I prefer it this way, though. I don't want to become an internet popstar.”
“Why not?” Tiffany asked. If that were her job, she would love to be famous on the internet. She would get things for free like makeup and clothes and probably be invited to go on variety and fashion shows. It would definitely be a good life.
“Too much fame is not good. You wouldn't have so much freedom, always having to worry about your words, never able to speak your mind… I wouldn't like that.”
“Why can't you speak your mind? What's so wrong with expressing your opinion?” Tiffany didn't understand.
Taeyeon looked at Tiffany and blinked a couple of times, as if not believing the woman actually asked that question.
“What? Why are you looking at me like this?”
“She's an omega, unnie!” Yoona answered on Taeyeon's behalf. “An omega speaking her mind? She would get a lot of hate.”
Tiffany blinked.
“Just like you hated me when I told you my opinion about alphas,” Taeyeon completed.
“You didn't tell me your opinion about alphas. You just told me to off. It's different.” Tiffany retorted.
Taeyeon chuckled. “Still, alphas don't like being confronted, especially by an omega. And as they are at the top of the hierarchy, it can go pretty bad for us if we say something that displeases alphas.”
Tiffany didn't dare say anything else. She knew it was true. Many powerful people are alphas, and they wield so much power they can literally ruin someone's life if they desire. A word by an alpha is much more valuable to society than a word by an omega.
“The good thing about the internet is that people can't smell you through the screen,” Taeyeon said. “Yet,” she added, making Sunny and Yoona chuckle. “So, some of us can get by by making people believe we are betas, not omegas.”
“Isn't that worse?” Tiffany asked, feeling Sunny get offended. She quickly tried to make it up. “To lie, I mean. If they find out you're an omega, wouldn't that bring more hate?”
“I don't lie. I never told anyone which caste I am. They don't even know my real name. They assume I'm a beta because of how I express myself. I just don't bother correcting them.”
“Wouldn't they be able to tell because of your personality?” Tiffany asked. But truth be told, Tiffany recognized that Taeyeon wasn't a very typical omega female. She could be quite assertive, and she didn't let others belittle her. If her job were a traditional one, like working in an office, she could be in quite some trouble.
“No, they don't live with me. They don't know about my real personality. When I turn on the camera, I'm a different person. It's like I have another persona. So it's easier.”
Tiffany found that intriguing. “Can I watch?” she asked, making Taeyeon frown her brows. “Your videos?”
“I don't think you would like it,” she said, looking away.
“Why not?”
“You are...”
“I am...”
“You are very different from me. Your world is not my world. I don't think they are your type of videos.”
“I'm not interested in the content. I just want to see how this persona of yours looks.”
Somehow, Tiffany felt like the omega didn't like what she said. She didn't understand why. Did she say something wrong? Why didn't the girl like it?
Taeyeon sighed and, upon unlocking her phone, she opened the app, typing her channel's name. After finishing, she handed it to Tiffany. “There you go.”
The first thing Tiffany did was read the channel's name: Taen9Cam. “Taen9Cam?”
“9 is my number. And Cam is for cameras.” Ah, that makes sense.
Tiffany shifted her eyes and saw the thumbnails on the playlist, looking for one interesting enough for her. Her attention was caught when she saw the thumbnail of Taeyeon wearing big round glasses and pajamas. The title of the video was her talking about Harry Potter.
“Do you cosplay?” she asked, interested.
“No,” Taeyeon answered. “Only on Halloween.” Like everybody else. Okay.
Tiffany pressed play and watched as the girl dissected the whole series, its theories and fun facts, as well as upcoming releases. There was a time in the video when the girl reenacted a scene from the books, and Tiffany chuckled, finding it funny. The editing was cool, and the sound effects made the video amusing.
“I think so too,” Tiffany said, agreeing with what the girl said in the video about the franchise. “I agree with you about the series.”
“You like Harry Potter?” Taeyeon asked, intrigued.
“Yeah, of course! Why so surprised?”
She shrugged her shoulders. “We're very different. As I said earlier, your world isn't my world.”
“My world?”
“Yeah, you are girly. You like pink, and fashion, and pop, and make up, and... boys...” She said. “I like blue, and games, and r
