Description

Once upon a time there was a greedy prince. He had everything anyone would want — a kingdom, a family, a group of friends — but he still wanted more.

 

And so he got what he wanted, but at the expense of everything else.

 

Byun Baekhyun spends his days breathing but not living, looking but not seeing.

 

And then Seo Haewon teaches him that perhaps a lifetime spent with the person he loves is better than spending eternity alone.

...and a couple notes before reading:
 

>The whole Sea of Flames (which is referring to a gem's name) idea comes from Anthony Doerr’s All the Light We Cannot See but the Sea of Flames legend/backstory is literally all there is (basically I took the name off it?). The plot is 100% different from that book.

>There's an author note and explantion chapter after the actual one shot

>To be honest I don't know why I tagged it fantasy, but I guess the whole curse thing is sort of like that?

>Word count: somewhere around 11k.

Chapter 2: Hi! well I have more time now than before and since I've recently re-read Darkest hour and On angel's wings after recommending them to my friends, I decided to start reading storied in my reading list (which mostly means my chrome tabs) and of course your stories are on top of the list!!! and this story was the fisrt and I'm not disappointed as usual!
Immortality has never felt this useless in my mind! in the middle of the story I really wanted to know what triggered Baek to use this gem, how it worked in the first place and the whole background of why he would decide to live as an immortal... what did he have in mind back then? I'm also curious about Haewon's neckless, at some point I wished maybe it had some sort of power that cancelled sea of flames' curse, or if he told her about it it would undo the effects... I did so much talking again! it's a wonderful story thank you for writing it!!! also wish Haewon was safe and healthy at the end :D

Chapter 2: I found one similarity in your writing it’s always character second guessing and trying to find reasons but at last things happen by themselves and the characters don’t care. It’s like examples: he didn’t know if it was this or that? was it this or it was just... but it’s fun obvious but not really???
